- And breath...... It's always worrying to upload a video when I've had some time from filming and editing. So I hope that you all enjoy this video from my New Years Shift.
I hope this year will bring us all happiness and enjoyment, 2020 hasn't been a fun year so lets have a better one (touch wood)
This year my goal is to get more of me on UA-cam and open up my life a little more to you all. Lets laugh together, cry together and power through it together!

I am a key worker
There was one winter bonus we had when I started on the buses 49 years ago, and that was we had the old, non pressurised cooling system on the old RT`s and RF`s, which meant when the weather was freezing, they left the buses running all night. Nice warm start to the earlies. We even had a staff bus to pick us up. Then came loved RM`s and the dreaded MB`s, SMS`s and Leyland Nationals. Then came deregulation in `85 and the job was never the same. Anyway. Have a great New Year and stay safe.

Have a brilliant new year and a safe one , always like your vlogs they make me smile , and your so down to Earth and tell it how it is , I enjoy seeing how other professional drivers on the other side go about their work , one day you will have to come and try out the haulage side in the trucks , I think you might be surprised
I’d honestly love to come and see how it is on the other side, I just think I’d get bored of driving on the motor way all day long! I’ve no idea how I’d cope with it. You guys on the HGV side of operations have it so much difficult than we do! Hats off to all of you pal!

@@TheFlatCapBusDriver it can get boring , I used to run across Europe beautiful landscape to look at but offtern on cruise so yes boring but now on Waitrose I spend half my time in central London with an artic and that really wakes you up , cyclists come from every corner lol stay safe mate and keep making the vlogs love em

Tiger are treating me great, its been manic over the past few months as you'll agree but as a whole industry from what I can see we're all pulling together and supporting each other and thats what matters! Doesn't matter about the company it matters about delivering a great service to people who depend on us! Absolutely, it's been great to see everyone sticking together - helped with massive funding it has to be said - and keeping services running in such a tricky situation. Its not been easy but I just hope we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now and we emerge into a brave new world where we're seen as key workers and more attention is paid to getting people back on bus too.
Definitely when this is all over I'll have a day or two in Yorkshire so I'll let you know and say hello! 👍

Shaun question for you mate, I've been away from driving buses for 2 years was a driver for 6 then joined a public service, toying with the idea of coming back would you suggest it
@@adamwinstanley4045 hey mate, it’s up to you and it all depends on the reasons you left the first time. Best thing I’d do is contact a depot you want to work at and ask if you could have a look around and meet the manager before you decide to apply! Make sure it’s the right choice for you :)
I left for a change worked all over greater Manchester and Merseyside loved it to be honest

How long is a shift on average, and how many days do you work in a typical week? I appreciate these numbers may vary but would love an insight, as I'm hoping to pursue the bus life myself. ...PS, I've got one of those snack machines at my place: Miniature snickers bars (well since they downsized them) for 20p more than they charge in the canteen. Thank Christ they haven't worked out how to get Creme Eggs in there!

Also it is true there are always vacancies for drivers. I always see Arriva hireing for drivers in Huddersfield,wakey, castleford, dewsbury all the time as I’d love to drive buses?
Its a weird industry these buses! One minute were over staffed then the next we're struggling to cover work! Get applying and see what happens! The arrival training school is fantastic and they are great at what they do! Always room for one more bus driver haha !!

I failed my PCV test on the Tuesday before Christmas, one little mirror check cost me. Hopefully I’ll get my retest next week 👍🏼

I was watching your "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BUS DRIVER (NIGHT SHIFT)" video, and you mentioned how there was not a soul on the bus. With no-one getting on or off, the bus would surely be ahead of time; in this case, would you have to stop at certain stops to make up time as to not run early? Also, can you get away with at different times of the day?

Whats the capacity limit for the bus drive during covid and do you often have to leave people behind at stops?
It all depends on the type of vehicle, on very rare occasions there is one or two people left behind but most companies are putting duplicate buses on the runs they know are going to be busy

First new year I have not worked since 2014... So it was kind of wierd and the new year feeling did not come as it does usally. Working in a store in a shopping center in Sweden, people (customers) were more stressed than usal this christmas and the days leading up to the new year.
As they did know they were not supposed to be out shopping nonesential items..... Have to see what the new law brings later in January (2 months to late)

Back to my usual shifts tomorrow but January is kind of dull. The 23rd of December, New Years eve, Saint Walpurga's Eve (Valborg) and the day before Midsummer is like a derbys. And it's hard to not like to play those days 😅 It's less good relations with every costumer, more point with the whole hand and shout commands to the mob 😝

@@TheFlatCapBusDriver nah U might have. The other coach driver or what ever they are that sit at the very front be side the driver To. Deal with the rear doors and luggage and tickets below the passengers like the national express mainly and the megabus sometimes
