  • Underwater footage of Captain Zac taking three quick casts for halibut on his way back from salmon trolling near Juneau, Alaska. Each time the jig hit the bottom it was immediately surrounded by fish!

    Great underwater footage, Captain. Loved watching how the fish behave and are attracted to the bait. Nice catches too.

    Always interesting to see how the fish react to the lure. Also nice to see that I’m not the only one bringing up lots of sculpins/cabezons/red Irish lords. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Kim many thanks for tuning in and I'm glad you enjoyed this video! haha no kidding about the sculpin! I actually stopped at this spot for about 15mins and caught 3 sculpin back to back - then I checked the footage later and saw that a halibut showed up on each cast! These were small fish but I have some underwater footage of larger halibut coming up in the next few months. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

      I did notice the halibut. I also noticed that you were drifting, and it was interesting to see how much ground your jig covered. I guess that surprised me, I must not see it that way in my mind's eye when I'm drifting a jig. Be happy you're not in Homer this week, today is blizzard #3 in the past 4 days. A bit atypical.

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  2 роки тому +1

      Yes indeed it was neat to see the bottom as the jig drifted over the bottom - to be honest it didn't feel like I was moving that fast but the tape doesn't lie! Wow sounds like a crazy blizzard in Homer! It has been snowing in Juneau this week as well but nothing too extreme. Maybe all this snow early will lead to an early spring (and halibut fishing sooner!). Tight lines! Captain Zac

    Entertaining as always. Kind of surprising how many false strikes and encounters with the bait there were.

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Brian thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! Yes indeed - there were a lot of small fish around my jig at this particular spot which led to many false / short strikes. If these had been 30-80lb halibut, they would have just devoured the jig instead! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

      @@PeelingLine I can send mine to about a 100ft but it is highly dependent on the water clarity also. If it is too dark then you'll just have a bunch of black footage.

      @@CaptainZac Hey Cap. I wish I was in the Pacific northwest. My home waters is Long Island Sound. There's only 3 main species folks around here target. Striped bass, Fluke (summer flounder), and Bluefish. Bluefish are by far the most numerous species but they're a vile tasting fish. There's also Blackfish, Winter Flounder, and Porgys.

      The cost of fishing with a go-pro rig! It is much harder to feel a strike with all this extra gear on the line vs. fishing with a jig tied right to the main line. I don't mind missing a few if it means I can capture some cool footage! Tight lines! Captain Zac
