The one major omission from this list is Strong Magic by Darin Ortiz, yes I grant you it's target audience isn't tall beginners, but knowing the principles and hanging your coat on them until you come back later is invaluable, don't start bad, start grat and learn more as you go.

Thank you sir. I have a few of thoes books already. The Wilson book is just so fun to go through. And the secret history of magic is very interesting. I will be checking out your recommend books and DVDs for sure. Thank you again. I appreciate it very much.

FANTASTIC! It amazes me how folks talk about people from the past as being ignorant and easily fooled. I say this because even today folks are easily fooled. That and the great minds of the past brought us to the present. This assumption that magic is and always has been fake only is mind boggling. I suppose it comes down to lack of a definition or perhaps to much trick photography and lies for folks to see.
The book thing, I found out the more tricks I buy. The more I realize the true value is the secret method then the actual prop. with the method you can create the props, or do them with impov objects laying around. Granted large stage props are required but I mostly do close up magic and these tricks, its all about the secret. In that regard I would almost recommend to get cheese paper or plastic props. I've learned alot from tricks that fell apart on me.
Wisdom and knowledge really is power and that book by mark wilsons is just fantastic! good stuff I'll have to start writing some of these down and picking them up. I have some that are pretty good but not sure where they rank. perhaps I can email you a list later

Sorry about my first comment I didn't watch all the way through before I made it .great video I really agree about the books over the DVDs and online learning. the tricks are in the book it's how you interpret them and make them your own with your Wonder and your mystery and your personality I could rant all day I love these videos
