- Hello, and thank you for watching.
Today’s topic: Magic for Senior Adults
Do not do children's magic for any age above preschool
Everyone appreciates good magic - do your best show
Kids love to come up on stage, adults love to respond to questions in their seats
They participate differently
60-minute shows - The older the audience, the longer the show
Mobility concerns - can’t walk to the staging area
Memory concerns
Some facilities are like country clubs - people come dressed and ready
Others served more severely disabled
Some are not responsive - focus on people who are alert and having fun
They love my stories and history as much or more than my magic
Talk about yourself, talk about your experiences, talk about historical events they may be familiar with
I hope you enjoy what you see here.
If you do, please subscribe and please comment.
I’d love to hear from you.
Much love,

David, l had to pause your video a few times because it brought tears to my eyes hearing the wonderful feedback you got from the appreciation you received. God bless you, my dear friend. You are truly a person of endless knowledge, and you're willing to give of yourself to us, and others is truly magic. ✨️😊✨️☺️🙏❤️
I appreciate your comments, and I very much appreciate you, Robert. Many blessings to you.
The advice on using 2 decks to preventing peolple forgetting their card is invaluable. You are obviously an seasoned Pro David!! Thanks ao much. More vids like this please.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching
Great reflections on knowing and respecting your various audiences...high empathy. Power on ! May our Lord continue to bless you.
Thank you so much for your comments and prayer for blessing. Much appreciated.
Great topic David, thanks for sharing.
After what I heard at a recent show I thought it was necessary. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks again for sharing your insights and lessons learned in this magic venue. I liked the idea of using two decks and leaving the selection with them to avoid 'forgetting the card'.
I started doing that after that "she's blind" incident and it has worked well for me ever since
Excellent advice, David!! Many, many thanks! Magical greetings to you from the South African Magical Society in Durban, South Africa. We try to do at least one show a year at Old Age Homes (no fees) and all that you have mentioned is absolutely correct. Some of our members have discovered this the 'hard way' but now they know better! 🙂Magical best wishes, Neil
Sometimes discovering "the hard way" is the best way because then you really know. It is so nice to meet you from South Africa. Magic is a universal language!
We all need hope these days.

I always love your videos. Great topic. Thanks for all you do.
@@cjg6465 thank you so much for your comment and encouragement. I appreciate it much
Thanks for the video David. Could you talk a bit more on going from a shorter show to a 60-minute show?
I think that is a great suggestion. I will do it, but it could be a few weeks before I post it.
Interesting you brought this topic up. I've been studying magic since spring time. My sister has worked her whole life working as a nurse at nursing homes because she loves taking care of older people. She keeps asking if I do a show to start with them at the nursing home. But she said not to do coin magic because coins would be hard to see for them. Well, coin magic is what I've been studying the last four or five months along with cups and balls. Can you suggest some tricks to perform for seniors?
Professor's Nightmare, cut and restored rope, card effects like Brainwave, I do a roulette routine with a broken bottle, search through some of my performance videos many were shot at retirement centers
great, great topic. Thank you David for sharing your thoughts and experience! Sadly, there's not that much material on magic for senior adults. Are there any books or effects you would recommend for this area of magic?
To the best of my knowledge, there are no books on the market that specifically address magic for seniors; however, any adult platform magic can be adapted to senior audiences with the adjustments I mentioned in the video.
I'm a beginner trying to get experience performing is senior centers a good place to start and how do i go about presenting myself to them?
@@cyclone99x call a large retirement center near you and ask to speak to the activities director or department. Once you get that person on the phone and that’s not easy, explain what you do and ask if she might be interested in setting a date. Be prepared to send information via email and if you have video awesome if not don’t worry about it
Can you review swami mantra from Sam dalal
I'll give it some thought, Jonah. I prefer to create videos I am passionate about and the Swami Mantra doesn't really thrill me
