These days most of us don’t buy albums because we stream them whereas when lauryn hill was popular people purchased items. So I think sales are apples and oranges for those two in particular. Uh, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ is arguably one of the greatest albums of all time amongst any genre of music(She also had the MTV Unplugged album). And Lauryn was the best thing about The Fugees, both rapping and singing. Nicki doesn’t have one song better than any song Lauryn was on. Lyte, Latifah, Eve and others would also like to have a word with Do.
Willaw Entertainment you know that album was impeccable(still is) when you have schools studying the album. Her album is mentioned over two decades later by many, but I guarantee you not many will mention any of Nicki's stuff in the same time length.

People neglect to talk about the verse she did on "Bedrock" that people still know every word to, "Changed Up" with Lil Wayne, "Big Bank" with all men, verses she did alone on "Did It On Em" that broke the internet, "Up All Night" by Drake. You have to truly want it badly. Who sold the most albums is not a criteria for who made the best art. There’s a lot of famous and high-selling “artists” who can’t touch the talent of so many lesser known folks. Plus, many great artist died in poverty and became famous posthumously-as well as their works selling/increasing in value.

Nicki had to reintroduce and show the world how great female rappers once was so her turning pop for an era is not a bad thing. if anything it made it common in female rap to be multifaceted in their music and not just be boxed into one category. lizzo and doja are praised and are topping the charts with their rapping/pop songs. nicki deserves her dues just like every other female rapper that had their run

Who sold the most albums is not a criteria for who made the best art. There’s a lot of famous and high-selling “artists” who can’t touch the talent of so many lesser known folks. Plus, many great artist died in poverty and became famous posthumously-as well as their works selling/increasing in value.
Folks need to learn their history before they have these debates. S/O MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, and Lil Kim!
Folks also need to give credit to where credit is due. Nicki paid her dues and worships Lauryn Hill even but that don't mean she can't be better.

What did she really have to do to make it except latch on to another rappers style, sign to a big label with one of the biggest rappers, and come out when there were no females. That's not hard. This set Nicki up for her success. Nicki is popular but she's not the best. Even with the debate if Safaree helped her, you have to admit that her rhymes were really lackluster after hey broke up. Saying the same thing over and over again. Y'all feel because she changes her voice or flows, she's doing something. Especially when she raps in a deep voice. Her bars aren't on a Lauryn Hill level, regardless of how many albums Lauryn put out.
You are so right, but you can't leave Da Brat or Eve off. Da Brat was the first solo female rapper to go platinum. And that's legit rap album through and through. She had 2 platinum albums. I wish Nicki had the balls to do a feature with Da Brat. They are world's apart lyrically and it would be obvious. I haven't even started talking about Eve.

Nicki had pretty much zero competition. It’s easy to win a race that nobody else is running. Once other female rappers started to rise Nicki’s career pretty much flopped. Not to say she isn’t skilled but I stopped hearing shit about her once Cardi and Meg the stallion etc turned up and i don’t even like them. I’m more of a Noname kind of guy.
