Great reaction again. 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite song and has been played live more than any of their songs. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes which, as you quite rightly said, in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The intro and the breakdown when Su came out behind the kitsune mask uses (again as you immediately identified) the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke and kicked she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Great reaction you were partly right what you got from the song here’s the translations Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) (Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) Dressed-up Miss Fox (Ting-a-ling! Cheer up! Ting-a-ling! Cheer up!) waves her twin ponytails in the air. (Fluttering! Cheer up! Fluttering! Cheer up!) She pops and vanishes. (Whirling! Cheer up! Whirling! Cheer up!) Let her show her various aspects! (Kon kon kon ko, kon kon ko kon!) (Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) (Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) Ancient maidens, you dance in the transient dream. Getting over thousands years, you live today. Ah, it's right. Always women are actresses. We're not foxes, not deceiving, but maiden-like female foxes. Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman. Smiling at face, crying at heart, saying "It's right", we never show our tears. A fox, a fox, I'm a female fox. Women are actresses. (Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!) (Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!) (Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) (Go! - Go! - Go! - Go! Go! Go! Go!) Ancient maidens, you sing in the transient dream. Getting over thousands years, you live inside us. Ah, it's right. Always women are actresses. We're not foxes, not deceiving. Maidens... ... 'shouldn't be underestimated!' Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman. Continuously, to keep blazing, we shoot up the fireworks. Ah, blooming and falling is the fate for a woman. Smiling at face, crying at heart, we're pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes. Ah~ah..
This is Babymetal's women's empowerment song. They did it in front of an all female audience once and that was awesome. The lyrics speak of women being like female foxes "megitsune" , in Japanese tradition foxes are shape shifters, but not in a sly way because they often have to hide their feelings and put on a face for the benefit of others. When Su kicks (or reveals a knife in her microphone) she sings "maidens should not be underestimated". The break down is a traditional Japanese tune "Sakura, Sakura" (Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom), but Su sings "Kitsune" (fox) rather than "Sakura". So they are echoing tradition while subverting it in the lyrics and the musical style. The kitsune is also closely identified with Inari, the Shinto deity of rice and plenty and today is associated with material success in business. So Koba and Amuse are covering their bases and when BM fans (who are called kitsunes ie messangers of Inari) buy merchandise they are giving an offering to Inari and Amuses bottom line gets better.
"They did it in front of an all female audience once and that was awesome." Twice actually: Red Mass and Red Fox Festival. :-) I love Red Mass maybe even more than Red Fox Festival
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ "Ah, it's right. Always women are actresses. We're not foxes, not deceiving, but maiden-like female foxes.". Thanks for reacting to this one. Megitsune is my jam. Still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL, and their most Japanese song. This one slays live, and always hypes up the audience. Su-metal likes to think of this song as expressing the Japanese character of facing adversity with resilience. A person might feel sad or overwhelmed, but they put on a brave face and carry on. She has talked about how adult women are so cool "as they never show suffering, by acting quite as usual even in a hard time", and she hopes to be able to act like that as well. The official music video for this song is a must see: ua-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/v-deo.html I would say that one and 'Karate' are their two best music videos.
This song is one of their earlier ones (third single off of the first album, I believe) and definitely a big fan favourite. It's one of the few instances where maybe the official music video would have served you better though. Although the song has been performed live more than any other in their catalogue, none of the available recordings seem to quite do it justice, for some reason. The sound mix is often a bit off, and it just never comes across sounding as impressive as in the music video. But this is absolutely one of the few instances where that is true for this band. Live is usually the way to go with Babymetal. Have a look at "Road of Resistance" and you'll see what I mean :-)
There are plenty of videos of recent concerts on YT. Official videos like PA PA YA and Shanti, Shanti, Shanti or if you want actual live performances you can check out some I have with the watermark like Distortion - ua-cam.com/video/myBlKiaYyjc/v-deo.html or Oh! MAJINAI - ua-cam.com/video/fhB4glcjBms/v-deo.html both of which are from concerts from late 2019. Keep in mind for any of those that the lineup of the group had changed as one of the members, Yuimetal, had left the band in 2018 for health reasons, so for the third spot they have three girls who will switch out from song to song. Those three girls are referred to as the Avengers.
The folk song at the beginning is "Sakura" with the words changed to refer to the Fox God. The sideways hop dance move looks like something from "Crank That" by Soulja Boy.
You need to check out anything from Metal Galaxy tour live in Japan recently released absolut fire ,also Syncopation, Yava ,Shine ,Starlight and the list goes on this band will get in your head like a drug Su's voice is the main reason for Babymetals
Well another great reaction This one is about a vixen but not what you are thinking The song is saying basically We are not vixen we are maidens and you better wash out A newer song or more resent concert The best one for me Is the concert DARK NIGHT CARNIVAL this concert was about The DARK SIDE The girls even had DARTH VADER AS A FEATURED GUEST there are only a few tracks available AKATSUKIE DARK NIGHT CARNIVAL This is a SU-METALS SOLO But it is impressive IN THE NAME OF HD This one was from their LEGEND S CONCERT AND IS THE SAME TRACK THEY USING TO OPEN THEIR BUDOCAN ARENA CONCERTS THIS YEAR BOTH ARE JUST INSANE
Actually, the music video for this song is actually a bit better (though you might miss Moa's attempt to make Su laugh behind the mask).... But in the MV, the breakdown is pretty epic.
You keep missing BabyMetals best song, best live performance, their hardest song,3 Guitar Solos, Drum solo, Monster Riffs, try- "Catch Me If You Can" live at Black Night Legend Doomsday show, Best performance!!! This one is worth watching the music video, it would probably raise your opinion of this song. The live versions of this song doesn't really do the breakdown justice.
Ok nice reaction, if u dont mind u can reacted to their recent one, kagerou with West kami band intro.ua-cam.com/video/jMIxIG9DuRY/v-deo.html . Babymetal last album had many collaboration with another's artist like sabaton, arc enemy, poliphia, F hiro, Bz and fusion with another culture..
I like your reactions a lot, but I gotta say, it’s distracting how you’re constantly looking from - i assume - one screen to another. I also can’t actually tell whether you’re watching on the left or right as you go back and forth alot. Why not just focus on what you’re watching? Genuine question :)
You mentioned looking for newer stuff. Some suggestions. " Distortion", "Syncopation","Kagerou","Brand New Day","From Dusk till Dawn". All great songs. Each one with a diff vibe and genre.

BABYMETAL's most performed song. A masterpiece. Also their best official music video.
I've since listened to this song several times now, and this song has really grown more on me on repeat listens. The chorus is in my head 😅

Interesting, I may have to check out the album version, then

Ooh, that sounds like a good idea. I haven't heard a ton of their stuff, but I like that band, so it's perfect
