⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤔 Their hiatus officially started on 10/10/2021, although their last live was actually on April 15th, 2021, the last of the ten shows at Nippon Budokan they performed this year. Aside from the solos from Su, 'YAVA!' is my favorite track from the Metal Resistance album. And some of my favorite BABYMETAL choreography. I'll never knock Moa, but there are a few dance routines that Yui just owns. There are groups that have spent years trying to make sludgy ska metal sound good, and BABYMETAL pulls it off the first time. I would have done a whole album like that, but they moved on to the next thing. : ) Even with the translation it's hard to know exactly what this song is about. As Du-Metal says on his translation page, "The meaning of the lyrics is vague, obscure & ambiguous." Something about making choices when things seem similar. Or insisting that differences, even small ones, are important and make things vital and interesting. Some folks think the lyrics are also talking about the perception of BABYMETAL in the Metal scene. This song was written by some of the same folks involved with 'Megitsune', etc.
yava is about being confused. it's similar but also different in an unknown way, which one should they choose? that line she says right before the breakdown is "they are different after all" and then you get the kickass breakdown.
Good reaction and good to see you back with another BABYMETAL song. As has already been said, the lyrics are confusing, but it seems confusion is what the song is all about. Throwing ska into the mix with their metal - I doubt anybody was expecting that, but as always they made it work so well ... and at their first try.
Good reaction, thanks! That's definitely a ska vibe. The meaning seems to be unclear. One of the possible meanings is about being, acting "different". In Japanese culture being or acting "different" is usually perceived as weird and not correct. So the choreo makes sense: the hand gesture on "chigau!" meaning that something is not acceptable, the "Oh, no!" + "Get out of here!" gesture with a freak out look, etc. So much fun and a very enjoyable song. And... totally love the breakdown, one of my favorites!
BM are on hiatus. Koba has said it's nothing unusual and the fan expectation is that they will be back. BM did release a special version of "The One" which was very emotional and had some content that is interpreted as an acknowledgement of Yui so that's a little unusual. After 10 years they might be trying to draw a line under the kawaii metal phase and maybe they will be very different when they return. OTFGK...anyway check out that recent version of "The One - Stairway to Living legend". I put YAVA (translated as something like OMG) together with Awadama Fever as I think they are both about difference and not necessarily being confined by other people's expectations. The YAVA lyrics mention "different" over 20 times. Is it about Babymetal and their music being different, Moa and Yui being different even though people seem to think they are twins or just about clothes?...who knows? What it is, is some up tempo metal/ska with a poppy hook, some great choreography, a really heavy breakdown and a manic ending...ie classic BM. There is a version with a Kami Band intro which is even better.
Nice to see you back on Babymetal...Too bad you didn't find one that had the kamiband intro... People always talk about the Kamiband intro for Rondo and Catch Me if You Can, but Yava had a kickass intro too. 🤘🦊🤘
@@KarmaHoudini17 You really need to checkout the Kami (Kari) band on their own. Kari Band is when they jam on their own... If you want to watch the Kamiband on their own here's two performances you should check out ua-cam.com/video/PMJ2RkYkhAA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/a4-WF3Su3sI/v-deo.html The first one is with Mikio (guitar), BOH (bass), Takayoshi (guitar), and Hideki (drums). The second performance is a tribute concert for Mikio after he died. The song they played was first called "Gathering of Metal Warriors" but was later renamed to "Hills of Wisteria" in honor of Mikio. Definitely worth a look.
I think there's a theory going on about this song that this might be about differenciating Moa & Yui, which seems to be quite hard when people get first into BM because with their similar body frame, hairstyle and costume they're harder to make apart than say, any of them with Su. And since BABYMETAL has been known to incorporate such introspective elements into their songs/lore, it wouldn't be surprising if it were the intended message, or atleast where the concept for the song started. They have songs that incorporate silly moments on tour like in Uki Uki Midnight where Moa wanted to eat squid. And plenty other examples which they incoroporated into their song meaning and lyrics. So I'm pretty confident this theory has value.
Great to see you are back on the Babymetal hype train... "different than I was expecting" I would think you would understand by now this is just their normal MO :-) Honestly I've never really understand what the subject is about. Their seems to be a lot about not being able to understand the differences between 2 things. Or someone saying: but they are different, just look. Can't you see ? Some have suggested maybe it's actually about Yuimetal and Moametal for new fans. They are meant to look like twins a bit and for new western fans it can be hard to disguise them at first. I agree with one comment: it's definitely about confusion, maybe that's why the lyrics are confusing as well. What is amazing to me is that this is Babymetal's Ska-metal song, who would have expected they would have that genre in their discography ? Probably nobody, so that's exactly why they did it ! :-)
I think one of the reasons for BABYMETAL's worldwide popularity is that it is very Japanese, for example, that seems to be the case with songs like "Megitsune" that are visually and musically distinct. But I think the lyrics of songs like "YAVA," "Elevator Girl," and "Kagerou" are also very Japanese and my favorite, but it's a pity that they are not so popular overseas, perhaps because they are difficult to understand. Btw, your Japanese are very good pronunciation. From Japan.

I love this song because I love the SKA genre. YAVA fuses SKA and Metal. Very underrated song cos, not many reactors react to this. Some in the Metal community didn't even knew that the SKA genre existed unless you listen to No Doubt and other bands that play the SKA genre such as and I can list a few but I think there are fans who know better.

YAVA!
YAVA! is a song from BABYMETAL's second original album, METAL RESISTANCE.
Information:-
•Artist: BABYMETAL
•Album: BABYMETAL
•Lyrics: NAKAMETAL, Mk-metal, Kxbxmetal
•Composition: Norimetal
•Arrangement: Yuppemetal
This tune was performed for the first time on 2015 Jun. 21st at Makuhari Messe, Chiba. Since then, it was tentatively called "Chigau". The Japanese title is "ヤバッ!" (= yaba!) and this word is sometimes jokingly written as "ヤヴァッ!" (= yava!).
The meaning of the lyrics is vague, obscure & ambiguous. This is the same old way of Japanese popular songs. If the singers are attractive enough, the fans can freely enjoy whatever fantasies they like with such vague lyrics. I don't think there is the true story and the lyric writer has hidden it, so I hope the listeners think freely what differs how from what.
