I was diagnosed with ocd when i was 13. I went through a lot of therapy and medication. I took my last pill about a month ago and im 19 now. I don't think anyone can even imagine the pain you have to go through when you have ocd. If you, my unseen friend are reading this comment and you have ocd or you have the same symptoms, i love you, i understand you, and i deeply hope you manage it as soon as possible.

@@joyrut1770 You shouldn't really depend on meds, ssri course takes around a year for a person to stabilize enough to slowly wean off, and hope for the best after that because the chance of anxiety (of any kind, whatever you had before) coming back is around ~36%. But saying that meds don't work for ocd, like the dude in a video said, is simply a lie. They work for me, and many other people I know - most of them never had any ocd comebacks after weaning off the meds.

Long time ocd sufferer, took medication for 12 years and tried to quit multiple times. Drastically reduced sugar, started exercising a lot and was able to get off the meds. Been off for over 2 years now. Make sure to keep studying and learning, and keep fresh in your mind the things you learned from counseling.

Nicely explained. I have OCD, and I have a long way to go, but whatever improvements I've brought in my life, is all because of will power. We need to have faith in ourselves, we need to be confident and we must remember that we can't let OCD take control. Will power is everything. We will have to find the strength to fight it. The strength, the power all lie within us, we have to train our minds to not get carried away by those disturbing thoughts. We are not alone, there are thousands of people affected by OCD. Everyone's fighting their own battles. We just need to have faith that everything's going to be okay.😊

This is they key for me. I have severe OCD I had to label it then give it up by not paying attention to or feeding it. Did that by ignoring it and doing nice things for others. I stopped calling others for reasurrance. I thought I was going to die when I stopped.feeding the OCD. It was so uncomfortable. But more practiced I would get these moments of being Free from OCD. I wore a watch and said ok I am not going to feed the OCD for 1 minute. Allot of practice. OCD never goes away but Its a liar and I ignore the liar. This talk really works!!!!

Our mind is the battlefield, it's so exhausting, stressful and frustrating. People with OCD live a different kind of normal. We keep on doing weird things to relief our fears .. do the compulsions all over again and again .. the cycle never stops. We can't sleep if we don't so these compulsions . I want to get back to the years where it all started.

Stop doing the compulsions please, thats the only way out, focus on things that matter like getting a work done, cleaning, listening to music etc. overtime brain learns from your deeds and ocd thoughts begin to fade away, I did it and I can confidently say Recovery is possible! Pl research Jeffrey Schwartz books, esp his 4 R’s framework for curing ocd, it works! The anxiety is going to shoot up when u stop doing compulsions but u have to be strong, coz eventually that anxiety subsides too

  • @punitharishi
    @punitharishi 3 роки тому +10

I'm an OCD sufferer probably for more than 15 years as I can recall and acknowledge (stil battling), and finding your video is a great hope and motivation booster, besides giving a reality check (on making me aware to accept the hard truth that once u r an OCD, you'll have to live with it til end, there's no cure for it).. But what a relieve to know there are survivers out there who made it this far and actualy had the control of it not vice versa.. Something that I always have wondered if it's possible, & believe me, in my case that have been struggling for such long years, I've just lost all hopes, especially when I had no support system around me... When my own family members failed to comprehend and whole society mocks me around with something that they don't even understand about on my mental condition. (it's a double challenge when I belong from an Asian country with little knowledge n exposure on mental/psychological related illness such as ocd).. So, indeed your video was a great helpful source to atleast give an awareness to those clueless n also for sufferers to give a boost n hope on how to try cope up with it.. And I REALLY THANK YOU FOR THAT.. CAUSE ONLY AN OCD SURVIVOR CAN TRULY UNDERSTAND N ABLE TO GIVE SUCH AN IMPACT IN ORDER TO HELP FELLOW BATTLERS... I used to have a dream on making an effort to educate people and create awareness on OCD in anyways I could (at least to a certain degree by blogging) just cause the pain and humiliation I went through made me realize how lacking the world is on emphaty and a person's mental health is taken so forsaken... and misconceptions and wrong perceptions people have about ocd victims, as u mentioned in speech, ocd isn't addressed by people as a serious illness at first place to begin with (sadly not in any part of the world for that matter). But the thought of disseminating information on ocd n help sufferers like me in some ways just stays as a dream, seemed impossible when deep down I know i haven't even won the battle n get out of it yet, for me to give inspiration to others, so how can I achieve the objective when I myself have not successfuly overcome it???
And I'm an educator by my profession, yet I failed to educate awareness n emphaty towards my own family members, colleagues, my circle of friends that I expected for them to understand but they didn't, infact they only left me scars by unthoughtful words n responses, which i cant blame them as they have no idea how vicious can OCD be n i battle in day to day basis (neither is my fault for having this illness)... So, I feel grateful on your effort to educate n help people as much as ur speech can spread info all around the globe... After seeing your video, I think I gained some insights. Cause lately I was considering to seek a treatment n medication from psychiatrist but you made me realized all I need is counselling and strong will power (which I tried controlling but failed severely n it stil has control over me)...to say the least u've given a hope to reinforce the will power with erp method n the final tips you gave... I will surely try not to give up and try to practise the method... And I hope you'll proceed to play a part in spreading the good awareness through any of your events n speech cause you'll never know how many people you can inspire with your success story apart being an OCD victim yet can achieve great things in life, besides educating the 'normal citizen' on this many unknown illness. My best wishes....

Lol same it's because (too gory to say so if you want you can click read more:)
Because for me it's like a voice that told me to do things or it would somehow kill my family or me. At first I never believed it when I first got it 10 years ago but it would then make my brain feel like it was emitting some next dark waves. Eventually it became kind of like a psychopath and forced me to imagine my family dying by exactly what it says. I used to watch a lot of gory and twisted scenes or anime to get stronger mentally, but I didn't know my OCD voice would become so disturbing. For example, it would tell me to imagine my family being killed by a trap in the movie "saw", then the killer disects their organs and puts it on a plate and decapitated them and put nails on their mouths to make them all smile very creepy like, and then puts them in an oven. I used to cry everyday from this because I love my family so much, but it tells me to imagine this to save them. It's so cruel... it makes me imagine the sounds, the screaming, and I can't take it... I've gotten used to seeing things in darker subjects but I can never get over something like that happening to my loved ones. I feel like it's twisted personality is affecting me... like I'm turning into him overtime... but at least I get mood swings now so when I'm with my family I'm happy. But darn OCD I used to be such a kind guy and now it just makes me say "damn you" to it and I'm always angry. Dammit
Edit: lol sorry I vented too much

“Ya it will never leave u “ this line is true
Back in 2018 i was in kota prepareing for iit jee exam ocd hits me on 31dec many voilents thoughts came and shattered my whole believe system I couldn’t sleep always thinking repetitive thoughts my exam was on 12 Jan i somehow gave the exam I gathered my self up for next mains which was in april ocd was reduced i got my own ways keeping u busy doesn’t help u have to do more like I always thought that i have to live because my of my parents they love me and i love them I can’t risk anything for them and with some more effort i gave my advance in may 2018 i cleared jee went to iit bhu I thought everything will be fine now but after 2sem lockdown started and it again came woth much more venom but still i am fighting and every day i wake up with the fact that one day at a time today i will be free from it just for today so it works sometimes but after 2-3 weeks again it goes to low but i used to focus on just 3 lines
    “Time heals everything “
    “U r not unique every 1 in 10 has the problem “
“U will never getting rid of it if u think u will get rid of it ,it always be with u u can just add or multiply this there is no division or subtraction so only think u can do is replace it with positve thougths”

I have OCD and I think this is horrifying problem who faced it they know very well how pathetic it is . My suggestion for those who have OCD please go for treatment specially you need a good clinical psychologist who understands your problem please don't seat in room with this problem. I'm sure you will definitely win this battle and live a happy life 🙂

Wow, this was so life changing for me to watch. I’ve seen it once before but still I appreciate how deep into it you went. So people can understand how severe it can be and for opening up about the parts like the depression and anger it can cause , until now I thought I was crazy for getting so upset over the mental torment going on

A fantastic speech on OCD, been dealing with this illness for around 9 years on and off now, currently suffering with it horrendously bad again. Thoughts obsessed over illness, death as well as other things. I’ve had OCD over absolutely everything almost, from illnesses to having to turn around in my car 5 times on the way home because I think I’ve killed someone. Here for anyone who needs to talk.
