"Man, how can you not like this?" -- You said it! Even though they were a 4-piece band, I consider them a 3-piece band with a lead singer. Every single one of their albums is eminently brilliant from beginning to end. The chemistry and music of Led Zeppelin is unmatched. I wish I could have seen them live.
They were really good. Saw them in 77, and Page and Plant in mid-late 90's, too. Not in a really good venue, sound-wise, but 'The Song Remains The Same' is a damn good opener for a concert.
Thank you! Pagey has been in my top 3 since Zep arrived when I was 14 in 1969. My older brother had a band in the SF Bay area in the 60s, so I have, because of him, been a musician all my life. Jimi, Jimmy (Pagey), Jeff . . . The Who (all the classic masters and truly greats)! Another really and truly great one is/was Tommy Bolin. Enough can never be said about Tommy! No matter what band he was in, he was a force of nature within it and left his indelible imprint upon it forever. Also, there's one greatly important song which must never be overlooked, and that is "Beck's Bolero" which was the original concept for Led Zeppelin; with Beck, Page, Moon, Hopkins, and JPJ. That song predicted the future of music. The production is (was in 1968) so ahead of its time! Really, the birthplace of heavy rock. I saw Zep 9 times. I've seen Jeff Beck even more. I began as a recording engineer in 1972. I am a composer/producer/guitarist, and I blame this all on Jimmy Page. And Eddie Kramer. Anyway, the pandemic lock-down has given me the time to research and revitalize. I built a home studio which my son uses for his EDM stuff (Mixing EDM with hard and heavy rock). And about to celebrate my 66th birthday, I figure it's time to complete my own musical oeuvre before its too late. Leave my many albums of original music to my grandson (FWIW). So, you, and many others are being my refresher coaches. Making me remember all that I know, but had become a bit disconnected from for the past few years. Most of these videos I watch, I say, "Oh yeah, that, already know it, next." But your videos are enjoyably entertaining. To see such a young person as yourself so involved and invested in the music, the soundtrack of my own lifetime. Fantastic! Keep on rocking!!! Again, thank you!!!
I agree with everything you say about Led Zepplin, they're the greatest Rock band, ever! Listening to Led Zepplin helped me get through the first lockdown! Roberts voice, Jimmy's guitar playing with JPJ and John Bonham, just carries you away on a journey through the cosmos. Those Folk inspired songs, just perfect to help you escape.
It always blows my mind how Jimmy Page heard chord progressions and put seemingly random inversions together into highly memorable, groovy, and often moving songs. Never cliche and always surprising. We’re not even talking about the genius production tricks and methods that makes everything so distinctly Zeppelin (e.g., When the Levee Breaks). JP was flat out a genius in the Zep years and my musical hero!
I loved alot of the rock edge that Cream. Hendrix, Deep Purple & more had, BUT when LED ZEP 2 hit, Man it ran the table & cleared out the hall. It changed EVERYTHING. I was 17 .It was Huge.
Not only are these lessons informative and professionally made, but they are so delightfully void of the UA-cam multi-cam clickbait bad comedy culture that is taking over online music education. Kudos to Dave for standing out with knowledge and skillful presentation. Not unlike the art itself. Class act all the way.
Going to be super duper picky here. After the slide from 4th to 9th fret in Rain Song, don’t forget to drop 8th fret “A” string. Awesome lesson that brought out so much of Page’s nuance and creativeness.
I'm with you brother, Zeppelin opened my eyes in 69. Nobody had ever heard anything like it in my world at least. I can't really choose one favorite but Rain Song, Ten Years Gone and Ramble On would probably be top 3. Kashmir is really the only hit song of theirs I didn't dig
You said it Dude! We had never heard anything like led zeppelin in '68 or 69. I was only 11 or 12 years old when the first album came out & hearing good times bad times It just blew us away, It sent a chill up & down my spine. I mean we had The Cream & Hendrix back in that time but Zeppelin inspired me to getting in to the drums Bonham was it. But yeah i feel what you're saying they inspired & really changed music, It was different & a harder type music, I think they started hard rock. Great great band it never gets old! I'm picking up the guitar & playing around with that now. Great job dude!
Great lesson! Love the “Rain Song”, but favorite Zep song for me “Fool in the Rain”…for the groove. Paige is an amazing songwriter, guitar player/hero, Producer. His chord play is so tasty, and informed by years as a studio session player. Thank you for the break down. I can never (rarely?) get the nuances by myself! Always simple, but tricky stuff, that lands on the eras as completely natural. Amazing
As far as my favorite band's go, Zeppelin is second only to Rush, and it's close. I'm an adult beginner guitarist playing a year and a half, so I'm still a beginner; but with enough musical miles on me from listening over a half century to appreciate your more advanced topics, David. I came across your channel a few months ago, introduced my friend who's been playing almost 5 decades to it, and heard him rave about your content. Thank you for it.
Great stuff, thanks for explaining everything! It’s funny that after 41 years of listening to their music I can still get to hear new things hidden away... 🤘😎🎸
Aw man Page rules. Learning Since I've Been Lovin' You at the moment. I've spent a lifetime going down the Zep rabbit hole. So many great ideas. As awesome as the studio version of the Rain Song is he plays it live in another altered tuning. Completely mad scientist personality turned creative genius. Great lesson, Dave!
Great lesson. I didn't realize all the "dancing" triads on Dancing Days. I always played it in first position (with D/Dadd9), but when you play it, its much more harmonically rich. I agree that Zeppelin is the most influential rock band, but think the Beatles were the best songwriters in pop/rock history. Both belong at the highest tier.
I always really dig the content and how you break it down to the cord structures. I think we take for granted the difficulty of these tunes.. Because you make it look so easy... Your one helluva fine guitar player !!! Always note for note with matching tone. It doesn't get said enough. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us !!
Thank you for your channel, your videos, and especially for the Led Zep content! By far my favorite rock band of all time. They will never be eclipsed, imo. Your lessons are so clear...you move things along at the perfect tempo, without repeating the same chord segments over and over, as some do on their channels. Can’t wait for the chords of ZP part 3!
Thank you David, couldn't agree with you more ..... and I deeply appreciate you bringing it on home, no pun intended, for those of us who need your tutorials; opens the doors to a whole new world of euphany for our playing enjoyment! Thank you again, Wayne.
Awesome!! Every time I watch your vids I have to break out all the old albums/cds and re-live my youth. All amazing songs. The Rain Song to me defined Zeppelin. So much emotion Keep up the awesome work dude!! 🤘🤘
Killer killer killer!! Thanks for shedding light on the bridge (where’s that confounded bridge?!) in the Wanton Song. I also have to play Rain Song all the way through. Great ringing chords. There’s a great Guitar World transcription from 30 years ago where I learned it.
THis is one of your BEST chordplays that you have ever done, Brewster; BRAVO, and, thanks! (I never got down Babe I'm gonna leave fully). VERY informative AND entertaining; LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a nice treat for a Friday night!! Thank-you, David!! Classic songs and Jimmy is such an influence. I particularly enjoyed the breakdown of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Thanks again!!!!!!
_The Rain Song_ is also my favorite Zeppelin song. I used to play it often on my 12 string acoustic witch went everywhere with me back then (note: I know Jimmy played it on 6 string guitars). I also usually play the first version I learned in standard tuning. It's a lot trickier, but not only convenient when you only have one guitar with you, it actually blends perfectly well with the alternate tuning.
In case you aren't aware, There's a Great White album called "Great Zeppelin." It's a full live concert recording of Great White performing all Zeppelin. It is the absolute best f*cking thing, man. It's like...if Zeppelin had been able to record the concert they always wanted. Years ago I worked in a local music shop and I was playing it in the store. A customer in the store said, "what album is this? I have tons of bootleg Zeppelin, I don't have anything this good." I told him and showed him the CD case and I think he was actually bummed it was Great White. Not that it wasn't Zeppelin, but I got the impression he hated having to admit it was incredible! And hats off to Mark Kendall because he is an enormous Page fan and I've never heard ANYONE play those parts so genuinely. The whole band was stellar.
I get the led out on my 07 R9 and 59 Supro every day. Took me years to nail Houses of the Holy solo and outro solo. Plate reverb dialed down on the bridge and just really feeling the lightness of jimmy's playing
It's funny for me it was Led Zeppelin first then I discovered Van Halen. Eddie became my favorite, but him and Jimmy are two of the greatest.. great video as always🔥🔥🙌🤟👌
I love Led Zeppelin! Quite a few years ago I recorded all the guitar parts to Achilles Last Stand. It took a while because I kept hearing parts that I missed, there are so many layers of guitar orchestra to that song. It was a lot of work but the experience taught me a lot that I use in my originals to this day.
AWESOME as usual. You could do a complete lesson on the Bass line of Ramble on as well as the others. It is definitely part of what makes them so great, 4 incredible musicians.
Excellent lesson, I never stop learning from Page. I've played the Rain song a billion times but this time i had the electric behind you doing fills, and had a blast! Thanks- I play Ramble on with a slide upto the 11 on A string(with open E ringing) and grip the 9th(A shape)behind it for the first chord-then go to bar on 7th. Thanks
The new rig sounds pretty well dialed in. Can't deny the creativity and talent of Zeppelin. A 'greater than the sum of it's parts' band. Tangerine is my fav.
Secret notes, I like that! I have a tendency to do that specially when I was younger. When I would write a song, even if I was going like a thousand miles an hour, I would sneak in a note here or a quick power chord there that only I realized made it kind of extra special! Then after the years I go back and relearn these songs and I almost forgotten that I had placed those things there. And I would like surprise myself, like "hey" that's pretty cool! LOL That's truly what makes Led Zeppelin special I would say. Jimmy Page always had the tendency to go the extra mile. I wonder if he got that from all those years of working in the studio. I just wanna thank you for these wonderful lessons and breakdowns, you do it so well, and with such ease, and your explanations are spot on… Especially like the Jimmy Page stuff he was such a master, crafting, interesting rhythms, chords, and tuning… Keep up the wonderful work love what you do!!!❤️🎼🎸
I got into led Zep in the early 70s when they was way up there, without doubt one of the greatest rock bands ever they took it to another level, but there is also a gentle side to their music such as the lovely rain song which I played recently in open the open tuning, Jimmy is fine acoustic player, thanks for this insight into the giant that is Jimmy Page.
77 for 5 songs then a riot in Tampa stadium. We were lucky to make it out..
I saw them live in 77 as well in LA. Amazing!
jJimmy Page is the reason i picked up the guitar favorite all time rock band
That Les Paul sounds wicked! 🤘
Thank you! Pagey has been in my top 3 since Zep arrived when I was 14 in 1969. My older brother had a band in the SF Bay area in the 60s, so I have, because of him, been a musician all my life. I love Tommy´s Work with James Gang. James Gang had made a lot of great albums. Got them all in vinyl. Hugs from Austria!
The dancing triads influence is very evident in Alex Lifeson’s earlier work. Thank you for keeping me excited about music I love.
I always thought Page’s acoustic chord choices & melody were hauntingly beautiful. Love his acoustic playing! Great job 🍺’ski.
Rain Song is the perfect song to me
You and me both my friend.
100%!
Just the greatest response when someone dared suggest Led Zepplin couldn't write a ballad.
Who on earth would ever suggest that?🤔
Absolutely...Rain Song is the greatest song of all time.
I think that the *Rain song* is Led Zeppelin at their finest...
That Wanton lick is just brain candy. Rolling Punches. I love it!
I must have played the rain song for a year after finding the tuning. Felt like a wizard. Thanks for the Wanton chords, incredible composition
I loved alot of the rock edge that Cream. Hendrix, Deep Purple & more had, BUT when LED ZEP 2 hit, Man it ran the table & cleared out the hall. It changed EVERYTHING. I was 17 .It was Huge.

This video just cements the genius of Jimmy Page. Using all of these obscure chords and arranging them just perfectly.
Bread and Butter of Hard Rock History.
Thanks for the great song tidbits.... zeppelin’s legacy is amazing.
OMG...that Rain Song sounded so freakin good!!!!...rock on my brother!!
Great lesson! I could listen to the Rain Song all day long!
Going to be super duper picky here. After the slide from 4th to 9th fret in Rain Song, don’t forget to drop 8th fret “A” string. Awesome lesson that brought out so much of Page’s nuance and creativeness.
The Wanton Song, one of his best chord structures ever. Thanks!

Great lesson, and thanks for including the Rain Song, it is Led Zepplin at their absolute best.
Houses of the holy and ten years gone are my favorite Zeppelin tunes. Great Job David enjoyed the lesson.
Agreed, Rain Song tripped me out as a child. Probably the best Zeppelin song.
You said it Dude! We had never heard anything like led zeppelin in '68 or 69. I'm picking up the guitar & playing around with that now. Great job dude!
I agree with you. They made ok to play loud rock music on the radio all over the world and the Song Remains the Same movie totally changed my life.
Great lesson! Love the “Rain Song”, but favorite Zep song for me “Fool in the Rain”…for the groove. Paige is an amazing songwriter, guitar player/hero, Producer. His chord play is so tasty, and informed by years as a studio session player.

Houses of the Holy! Great intro. 👍
Great vid, love Zep! Thanks Dave!

Amazing as Per !! Please do the chords/licks of Gary Richrath (Reo Speedwagon) next please !!
Thank you Sir for asking Dave for this request, I think he was getting tired of me asking also!! LOL
I hope to see my guitar hero’s licks featured !
@@jamessator5564 I think he may have been tired of me asking as well LOL !!
Great stuff, thanks for explaining everything! It’s funny that after 41 years of listening to their music I can still get to hear new things hidden away... 🤘😎🎸
Hi David, thanks for these insights. That's hours of fun for me. 🙏😁
Great lesson! My favorite Zeppelin tune is anything from Led Zeppelin II
i'll be working on that rain song tuning , , thanks !
Curve balls and secret notes...
Oh so good!!!!
The Best Ever period! I've said it many times before, Zeppelin Rules!! You and I seem to be of the same mind about music in many ways..🎶✌
Zep is awesome. Jimmy is in my opinion, the best guitarist. Time to go play. Thanks Dave.
Love your instructional videos, I hope you never stop. You always have the songs down perfectly. Great 👍 great 👍
Great lesson.
Absolutely its gonna sound popy bu Elton and Bernie Taupin but I realize there were more for keyboard player s
I always really dig the content and how you break it down to the cord structures.

Absolutely incredible! The MIGHTY Led Zeppelin! Thank you so much!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great job! I don't trust anyone who doesn't like Led Zep!
Great lesson! I am a huge fan of zeppelin. You outlined their creativity nicely!
Thank you David, couldn't agree with you more ..... and I deeply appreciate you bringing it on home, no pun intended, for those of us who need your tutorials; opens the doors to a whole new world of euphany for our playing enjoyment! Thank you again, Wayne.
Perfect Man Your one of the Best with a Great Attitude and for one of the Greatest of my time Keep-em coming man
Fantastic lesson on the greatest rock band of all time! Thanks for this!
Awesome!! Every time I watch your vids I have to break out all the old albums/cds and re-live my youth.
All amazing songs. The Rain Song to me defined Zeppelin. So much emotion
Keep up the awesome work dude!! 🤘🤘
Fantastic! I’m gonna work in the lick to Good Times ! Thank you Dave !

A masterful and engaging lesson. Thank you very much Dave.
Such a nice treat for a Friday night!! Thank-you, David!! Classic songs and Jimmy is such an influence. I particularly enjoyed the breakdown of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Thanks again!!!!!!
Great job on the rain song
_The Rain Song_ is also my favorite Zeppelin song. I used to play it often on my 12 string acoustic witch went everywhere with me back then (note: I know Jimmy played it on 6 string guitars).
I also usually play the first version I learned in standard tuning. It's a lot trickier, but not only convenient when you only have one guitar with you, it actually blends perfectly well with the alternate tuning.
I was going to bring up his use of triads but you did, nice. Greatest band ever. They were the obvious progression from the Beatles.
I have watched a lot of videos covering the Rain Song, lessons, etc., all good, but yours is the most authentic sounding that I have seen and heard.
In case you aren't aware, There's a Great White album called "Great Zeppelin." It's a full live concert recording of Great White performing all Zeppelin. It is the absolute best f*cking thing, man. Not to mention im thinking Jack Russell could nail Plants vocals
Dave you're the best I've seen on UA-cam.....Thank you for your lessons that part time players like me need...
I love watching your lessons and I've watched 100s of others on UA-cam. The way you explain stuff Is just amazing..
Yep, me too. At 11-12 years old.
Great lesson! Rain Song was beautiful
Absolutely fantastic.
Awesome as usual and very inspiring. I don't take the time to play very often but this really sparked things for me, so a BIG thank you!
Thank you!
Great stuff as always. Thank you
I love Led Zeppelin! Quite a few years ago I recorded all the guitar parts to Achilles Last Stand. It took a while because I kept hearing parts that I missed, there are so many layers of guitar orchestra to that song. AWESOME as usual. You could do a complete lesson on the Bass line of Ramble on as well as the others. It is definitely part of what makes them so great, 4 incredible musicians.
How did I miss this Chordplay episode! Thanks for this Dave, brilliant!! Best damn channel out there🤘
Thanks David!!!
Yu are a thorough , bases covered, guitar player, with a stellar ear...just wow, always amazing. Long time no see Dave~
Great lesson 🤘🤘
Beautiful !
Great lesson! Thanks 😎👍🔥
Thanks
One of the coolest lessons ever on you tube!
The new rig sounds pretty well dialed in. Can't deny the creativity and talent of Zeppelin. A 'greater than the sum of it's parts' band. Tangerine is my fav.
Your on my Top You Tube Guitarist list Hands Down.🏆🤗🎸🎶
Brilliant lesson,thank you.
Wanton Song ! I really enjoy your videos. You have a very clear, concise way of explaining the material while making it interesting.
Perhaps it was out of the very boredom, that he would like to stretch himself! LOL
Rock On. You are an amazing teacher and better guitarist. 🥃
Just came across your videos earlier in the week and am amazed and impressed! I totally love crazy chords, and especially as done by Jimmy Page, so you are a treasure, and keep up the good work!
Led zeppelin is best band ever.!!!!!!
I love bands who don't consider any style of music "off limits". Led Zeppelin might be at the top of the list for that reason. It's why "Physical Graffiti" is such a perfect double album.
Thanks for covering just about everything I always wanted to know! Great Job Cheers!
I just wanna thank you for these wonderful lessons and breakdowns, you do it so well, and with such ease, and your explanations are spot on… Especially like the Jimmy Page stuff he was such a master, crafting, interesting rhythms, chords, and tuning… Keep up the wonderful work love what you do!!!❤️🎼🎸
The Rain Song should always be played in its entirety... bring it on!!
Great vids, man! :)
A Great lesson! Also, I've watched many of David's videos. 👍
What about ‘Out On The Tiles’. That’s a tricky one. Because Jimmy slides that riff you can see on the black crowes footage. Sick riff
I want to be like you when I grow up, freaking awesome!
Great job!!
Brilliant! Thanks so much.
Lovin this. Thank you for all your hard work.
Great lesson. Well done.
You should do a lesson on how to play the The Rain Song. I could see how much you were enjoying playing it. Brilliant video David, cheers.
