- Learning how to do color separations in Photoshop can be pretty difficult. Especially when you have super complicated artwork. I want to first go through and take a look at a quick and easy color separation job that is perfect for beginners. You'll need to practice and get good at these simple jobs first.

Got a job interview on monday for a print shop in H town. Watching all the color separation videos and tutorials I can to help.
+Orlando Benitez good luck Orlando!
you're a good teacher. Very easy to listen to, and clear.
Thank you!
Casey! Great job, Brochacho!
I just want to say it's awesome you did the logo reveal after an intro and your audio levels sound good. I dig the music. A+ tutorial. Thanks.
this is awesome, you have no idea how ive struggled trying to get or learn other programs that everyone online says you need omg! thank you! maybe separate the music :)
that was awesome,
thank you very very much
background music worked for me
Does it have to be a vector to seperate colors? Thank you for helping us
Question... So if I were to save the file as, and wanted to have Staples print it out. What file format should I save it as? Really awesome informational video by the way.
I would save it as a multipage pdf
@@StartScreenPrintingNowTV awesome. Thanks for the quick response. Very much appreciated 👍
If your just adding a text layer to an image to separate the color for screenprinting, do you still have to halftone the text?
looking forward to the advance tutorial ! still a bit confused about dot angels . good video!
Thanks +James Howard ! Still working on getting the advanced tutorial out.
Excellernt video. Thanks for sharing your experience.
What file does this has to be? When i go to i drop then select color range does not pick up anything with the fuzziness
is this image or what ?
can we directly do this process on any Image which we want to print by screen printing
Awesome video man! I just got all my eq to start printing, and im still learning how to separate colors ,So this video was very helpfull. Looking foward for more videos like this. ( one question) how to know what kind of mesh does each art goes where?, Thank you!
could u also go to the filter option for the half tones?
Hey +Vice Kervens . Mmmm not really. You're talking about the option under pixelate right? It doesnt really give you any options or control over the dots per inch except for pixel radius but thats not very helpful in this circumstance.
Do you know how to do a indexing color to get a color separation? Thanks for your tutorial
+Lorena Posadas thank you Lorena. I can do an index separation tutorial in the future
That will be awesome. I will truly appreciate if you make a tutorial and If you teach us how to use the indexing colors mode. And clarity how to use the different options of the mode, as well as how to use the color tables. Most of the arts I had been indexing come with a mix of colors in the pixels and I have to invest a bunch of time cleaning the arts after indexing because this salad of colors results in issues when we send the arts to production at the mills. We use basically 18 colors maximum and we have to reduce arts from 150 colors or more into 18 colors, I will appreciate if you do a tutorial. Let me know so I can check your tutorial. Thanks for all your help
Very clear instructions, but when I go to fill with black, it just comes out gray, even when I crank Fuzziness all the way to 200 (of course, at that point lots of other stuff besides the blue that I'm selecting (from a very simple three-color poster). I'm not a PS novice, but I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Suggestions?
Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge. How about using index color separation?
+TJ C thats something I'm still working on for a later video
Thank you for your fast reply. Can I use index separation for this kind of artwork? What I'm really asking is what's the difference between your method and index separation?
Awesome vid! Thank you. I'm wondering, when going through the bitmap process, how did you choose your Halftone Screen Options? Specifically, the Frequency, Angle, and Shape? Trying to figure out how to set those from project to project. Thanks!
Informative vid! Looking forward to advanced tutorial and live stream!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to both of those too! Should be lots of fun.
Got some new techniques from this video, thank you
+Indo Sablon no problem!!
Thank you
On 12:14 you selected all black sections on the channel with the command but how do you do it on Windows? or without shortcuts?
On windows you would use the CTRL key. I actually dont think there is a way to do it without a shortcut. I'm not seeing anything in the menus unless I'm missing something. Shortcuts are always better though.
Start Screen Printing Now thanks :)
Great video!
+Tim Middleton Thanks Tim!
Do you happen to have this file so I can follow you step by step?
been enjoying your videos, can u explain me why u did that way instead of converting the image to CMYK and bitmaping the channels of each color? also u didn't used any RIP
+fabim matos Well you only want to do process separations (CMYK) in certain situations and it can be tough to perfect it. If you are separating a design, or photo, or painting that technically has millions of colors and its going to go on a white shirt, you can attempt to print it using process (CMYK). This design is only two colors so doing simulated process allows me to choose the pantone colors that will need to be printed. Simulated process just really gives you more control over the final printed design.
I dont have RIP software on my machine at home so I cant do a screen recording of it.
+Start Screen Printing Now THX for responding, so in my case I should keep using the CMYK method I do a lot of images with lot of colors , I don't do screen printing I do pad printing but the separation process is the same I think only difference I also do a background because we print things in transparent plastic cups , but the way I do is far from perfect also I use a cheap inkjet printer it just don't do the job sadly :(
so is it possible to scan a 5 color picture into photoshop then do color separation on photoshop to get 5 different color screens?
+m rowland absolutely! It's more complicated than this video but I will be putting up a video showing how to do it in a later video
Hey brother do you have any videos on the print settings in Photoshop when printing films? Much appreciated!
+Willy Martinez Jr Hi Willy. I strongly suggest exporting your file into Illustrator to print from your RIP software. If your colors are separated into channels I would save it as a DCS 2.0 and place it into Illustrator. If you have each color as a layer I would save each layer individually as a full black TIFF and drag them into Illustrator.
Hi, I don't have RIP software, can I still place it into Illustrator?
+TJ C Hey TJ! You sure can! Check out my first video for help on that.
do you know a good way to create screens for the Obama hope poster style? I'm following your tutorial but it seems complicated on my side worth the blue and red I my poster im trying to create.
+Satxbb8 do you have an idea of what steps start to get complicated for you? I can try to clarify them for you. Thanks!!
+Start Screen Printing Now thank you I figured it out. was not printing individual screens for each color. thank you for a great video
+Satxbb8 Awesome! Glad to hear you got it working!
why are you doing color separations in the layers & not the channels . Im a beginner and been told not to do it?
Are you using Adobe elements Photoshop
No just regular Photoshop
It's got a little confusing there at the end… With the channel overlay etc. did you just throw away the original image? You have a lot of windows popping open and closing appearing and disappearing and I have no idea where they were going or what was happening !! I didn't understand what was going on it skimmed over a lot of stuff without explanation...
Thx
thx for this vid!!u are the best!
Thanks man!
tur·quoise
lol!

+sayed abbas you are very welcome!
Wow I didn't know I was a Mo-chacho... good to know...
you are fricken amazing! i love you
Heh thanks dude!
Bro-chacho, couldn't one just quick selection a color, click on similar, then copy to new layer?
Sup Brochacho. So that could work if you had some art that was lots of blocks of 100% color but you're not likely to get that all the time if its coming from a client. If it has any halftones or tints of color you would need to keep adjusting the tolerance on the magic wand (I'm not sure if there's a way to adjust the tolerance on the quick selection tool?) until you are getting every percentage of the color you want and none that you dont want. This way you can adjust the threshold of color range in real time to make sure you're getting 100% of your color and avoiding the others. I hope that helps!
It seems that you make a lot of clicks and move things around without saying what you are doing. Your video was the most helpful that i have seen so far, but I guess I need the super beginner version.
i live in houston can we hang out
+BeheadingTheTraitor will consider if you have beer and pizza
You are a good teacher for me but i m sorry to say that your background music is very disturbing me ..
Doooope!
Houston huh? It's a small world.
+Lane Lauhoff Hey fellow Houstonian
Background music is really distracting.
Thanks for the feedback Jenifer.
