Liquid Television was amazing. I think that's where I first saw Aeon Flux. Rad stuff, thanks!
Jeff Smith's RASL is probably in my top 5 of all time, I love all the science behind the story and his art is top notch as always.
FYI - Blackball published two Trencher stories. The first is in Blackball Comics #1. It's a wordless, 19 page, all out slug-fest with Simon Bizley's character Blitz - The Manic Mandril. Very fun story. There is also a two page Trencher backup story in that issue titled, The Seuling Legacy, which details the collapse of the direct market. The second story Blackball published was an all Trencher one-shot titled, The Trencher X-Mas Bites 1994 Holiday Special. Both books are great. Well worth tracking down if you are a Giffen/Trencher fan.
I have the Trencher holiday special, I don't remember if it came out the exact same week as Gen 13 mini #1 but I definitely bought those two at the same trip to the comic store.
Sovereign Seven actually ran for 36 issues, as well as two annuals, and a Legion of Superheroes crossover issue. Claremont wrote all of them, and Dwayne Turner drew almost half the issues.
Flipping through my issue of Wizard 27, I'm noticing I cut out a lot art from this magazine when I was 13. It's nice being able to see those missing pieces again.
I’ve been using Goodreads for years for my all comics/books. It’s not exactly a database but you keep track of what you’ve read, want to read, are currently reading and wishlists. It’s great. It’s also social media with reviews and comments but I just track my books.
Liquid Television and Wizard….god I miss the 90s. What an amazing time to be a kid. Just so much creative energy everywhere!!! Tv,magazines,books,RPGs,toys,etc!
STEVIE & ZOYA was a seismic art event in my 20's-- ice to know someone else remembers it. The creator/animator goes by the handle "ACE CONRAD" on UA-cam, but the creator of S&Z is long-time animation designer and director Joe Horne, an SVA grad who worked at Film Roman, Disney TV, STARZ network, Cartoon Network. His resume is very long , and includes-- The Specialists (Liquid Television), Designed the title sequence to USA Channel's Reel Wild Cinema, Beastie Boys: Shadrach (Short), Peter Gabriel STEAM video, Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling, Hammerman, Boondocks, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, and numerous animated TV series up to today. Definitely recommend Glenn Fabry's work on Slaine: Time Killer and The King for black and white work and then Demon Killer for painted interiors.
12:20 - Invisible Hands, by Richard Sala was my favorite segment on the first season of Liquid Television. Hardly anybody talks about it, though, for some reason.
Loved the "Dear mum" segments as well.
I liked the Angry Daisy segments and Aeon Flux. Hell the first Beavis and Butthead segments too!

Bernard Chang is drawing the current Teen Titans book (which I like, it’s a fun book).
Wow, I only now see that the Alan Moore interview has been done by Christensen and Seifert, the guys that would later employ his writing in their Avatar Press publishing.
CLZ is what I’ve used for a while now. Had its hiccups early on but seems to be working really well these days.
I've been pretty happy with the CLZ Comics app for collection organization.

Lee Weeks was an amazing artist then and he's only gotten better over the years.
One of the few artists who is able to stay fresh.

CLZ, I use the desktop version and the app - I do all my databasing and stuff on the desktop, use the app just to view and hopefully not rebuy too much stuff when checking out shops. I love it.
Also man I take my collection organization seriously. I have 10K+ books and I want to be able to find any book in less than 60 seconds, that is my goal always. Haha.

That white cover Ghost Rider is the first comic I ever bought off a newsstand spinner rack. I love that comic.
Tarot is at like 115 or something now, he is married to Holly Golightly and they make it work!
As an urban historian (focused on historical anthropology of homeless communities and landscapes of power/gentrification) and comic lover big numbers is the holy grail of finished comics for me
Interesting to see a Tony DiGerolamo coming up in reference to the comics talk show. I grew up outside of Atlantic City, and dude was basically one of the most prolific self-publishers in the area; I met him at a flea market in Smithville Village. I believe his company was called South Jersey Rebellion Productions or something like that. THE FIX was a supernatural detective comic with Lapham-inspired art; most issues had photo covers with Tony playing the protagonist. RODNEY, THE ALIEN WHO SMOKED POT was a zine of his that I loved. Wonder what he's up to now!
One fun thing not mentioned in the news section: the article announcing the formation of the Amateur Creator's Union. They ended up publishing the first work of a few professionals, including Ale Garza and Michael Ryan. And though I don't think Goon creator Eric Powell was an ACU member, some ACU members did publish his first work in Best Cellars # 1. I've been documenting the organization's brief existence on Instagram. I bought a Captain America limited print by Travis Charest and in the sticker on the back it said his surname was pronounced Shar-RAY.
I don't remember what Extreme title did the jump to issue 25 stunt, but I do remember that Stormwatch by Jim Lee did (it was pretty cool, with a cool jump to a massive defeat of Stormwatch.
And if we're talking about the best comics stories I reckon you have to include Beto's Human Diastrophism, in which a serial killer shatters the peace of his "Heartbreak Soup" cast in Palomar. I first read that in the Love & Rockets comics and have granted it in trade half a dozen times because I keep giving it away to people !

@@josephcornelison6511 Yeah, he's almost the polar opposite of Jim and Ed, in that his first work in comics was at Wildstorm and that he was an inker, part of a production line. I appreciate that he's documenting his journey as he tries to expand into penciling and his own projects, as well as share what he's learned for aspiring artists.
There were, in fact, single issues of TRENCHER after image… I found this out after I sent a bunch of 90s Giffin books to get library bound a few weeks ago… I realized my set was INCOMPLETE, and my little heart broke. They’re bouncing around eBay, and there aren’t many, but it did live on!
I'm trying to find the Bone captain America Mashup art that was featured in Wizard magazine. I remember it as a kid, may be a long shot.
I agree that CLZ is best. Barcode scanning on mobile makes it super easy.
Here is my guess for why Jim Shooter and Bob Layton are on the top ten writers list. They both built up a lot of good will from the Valiant stuff that was coming out before Jim Shooter was ousted. For real, that early Valiant stuff was pretty great up to and through Unity for the most part, almost all of those books were great. Although, over time, those books all dropped in quality and by the time of the Acclaim purchase were mostly awful, the Shooter/Layton years were very good. Hence the top 10. I imagine they will begin to fall off after a few more issues though.
xcornmuffinx Valiant gets a lot of hate, but watching them build their universe between Magnus 1 and Unity was such a fun ride and they were laying such a solid foundation for the future. It’s clear that Shooter was the mastermind.

Good episode! Like the intro and last shot angles of you guys. Is interesting seeing the 90's comic era through your eyes. I was in my 20's and stopped collecting comics for religious reasons. My era was the 80's comic scene wish i loved.
I know you guys are gunning for finishing the Big Numbers series, but I'd love for you to take on the 1963 Annual first!
CLZ Comics is an app for cataloguing comics and is worth every penny! You can scan the bar code of your comics and trades to add them in. You can then search for any writer artist colorist etc.
And now we are at the 1st Wizard I actually bought, instead of reading an open copy at WalMart.
I have every episode of Liquid Television that I got off of some shady limewire server at some point. I recently rewatched the three seasons of it and they pretty much all hold up quite well, with the exception of a few things that are really dated (Art School Girls of Doom for example). I always liked Dogboy, Winter Steele, Psycho-gram, and Invisible hands.

Neil Gaiman tells basically the exact same Constantine story in some Sandman collection or other, but about seeing Death.

stashmycomics.com is what I use. I like it cause it's free, and it's wiki style - so if there is a title that isn't on there - you can add it yourself. You get points for new stuff you add, and can use the points to enter some of the contests they have. It's also good cause I can pull it up on my phone when I need to.
