2023 Update: Poison just wrapped up a successful North American tour with Motley Crue and Def Leppard. Bret Michaels toured South America with his solo band in 2015 and when he played in my country (Perú) the venue was as full as a tuna fish can. In this reportage Poison is the only band that is proud of its origins and that shows in their present: they are the real deal and people love that.
I've been looking back over billboard charts from 1980 till now, and one thing I've noticed, that was even true as recently as 1998/1999, Billboard was a reflection of what EVERYONE listened to. There was pop, rock, soft rock, r&B, adult contemporary.... the teenybopper pop was more considered "kids stuff". Nowadays, it seems like record companies and billboard are paying attention EXCLUSIVELY to what kids are listening to. This glut of "sound cloud rap" and the dismal "trying too hard to seem deep", plus this brutal onslaught of EDM is what young teenagers are listening to, leaving those of us in mid to late 30's and older stuck listening to what we grew up on, since nothing for us gets any attention anymore. I have to dig through Spotify to find new artists, and it's WORK.... trying to wade through the garbage is a real chore.

Joe Elliot says the reason grunge happened is because too many glam metal bands sounded the same. This is actually what's happening now with commercial pop and rap, even worse than what happened with the hair metal bands. So when is all this going to crash? When is the bubble going to burst?
Edward Bliss People are more easily programmed and sheeple minded now and the corporate power is more concentrated and larger: It may never change again.
I LOVE that you left the commercials from 1998 in it, too!! I'm an 80's MetalHead through and through...! But, 1997-1998 was my Favorite Year's of That Decade!! :) It takes me Back Twice!! I Especially Love the 1998 commercial for Halloween H20 And My Favorite Metal Video's from the 1980's!! In O e Video!! Up The Irons, Bitches!! :)
i remember watching this on mtv when it debuted. was awesome to see my hero's on tv again. the jani lane segment kills me...he didn't deserve the criticism on his song writing. the guy was one of the best songwriters of the times.
This is funny. MTV took a special they did in 95 or 96 called "It Came From The 80's" and just repackaged it as an episode of Ultrasound, but it's the exact same content.
All these Bands and Genre came back in the 2000s with the younger generation born in the 80s and Nostalgia. Rocklahoma, M3 and Package Tours Galore. UA-cam and Instagram have these bands popular to this day. ROCK NEVER DIES!!😎🤘
Tom Keifer was/is a fantastic vocalist. I wasn't into Cinderella, there are a few songs I really love, *because* of Tom. With the right songs, IMO, his voice could've gone further than the 80s. I know he's had major issues with his vocal chords, but he's overcome them, thankfully! RIP Robbin Crosbie... Horrible way to die😢💔
This was originally titled It Came From The 80s Part 2. I still have it on a VHS tape, and I used to watch it a lot in the 90s and early 2000s because I felt just like Lita. This is why I hated the 90s. I missed my rock, and while I did like some of the current music, I was mad that they took away my party bands. I agreed with Nikki Sixx's comment about everybody looking and sounding the same and "someone's gotta do something original here", but unfortunately the pendulum swung too far the other way. I never understood why we couldn't have both. I'm still bitter to this day about Jani Lane not getting the recognition he deserved before his death. Warrant was one of my all-time favorite bands, and some of their best music came out in the 90s. The Keel part is ridiculous, and I feel like was only included to laugh at the genre because that band did nothing. It's funny that this was barely a decade after the era they're referring to, as if it was such a long time ago, while this clip is already 30 years old. It's been way too long since we've had a return of rock, but at least we've come to a point (I hope) where it's not laughed at anymore. I'm ready for some new bands though to surprise me and rock my socks.
@@tobesocourtney Warrant was very underrated. I agree that they didn’t receive the recognition they deserved. I think there were a lot of hair bands from the late eighties that just tried to follow the mold of success, but didn’t have the talent to back it up. Steel heart was just the opposite. Milijenkos vocals were absolutely amazing! And while they achieved some success, I think they came along too late in the game, as that genre had become passe’ However talent is talent and good music will always prevail. I don’t listen to much of the current stuff. My playlist consists of mostly 70’s, 80’s, some 90’s, and quite a few singer / songwriters. Here’s to awaiting the return of good music! Cheers!
This will happen to this current wave of “SoundCloud” rap. They’re starting to copy and sound like each other. Eventually burning out and the next decade(generation)will not relate and this venturing into a completely different genre. Mark my words
Funny watching Kirk Hammett slamming the glamorous hair bands while he's wearing painted fingernails 🙄 + Joe Elliott blaming Warrant and Winger of Copying their sound! Yes, Cherry Pie kinda sounded like "Pour Some Sugar on me"....but "We Will Rock You" came first!
Despite all the makeup and wardrobe some of the best high-power notes were sung during the 80's metal scene.Never judge a book by it's cover,Alice cooper looked and presented some nasty shit on stage but his music is fuckn awesome, people spend to much time on the look that they forget about the incredible talent presented before them.
These guys spitting on the plate they ate for a whole decade just because they weren't on the charts anymore... Now a lot of them are trying to bring back their former selves on social media lol
It's too bad someone created the term "hair bands". For those who use it you missed some really good music because you were too busy concerned about the look
@Luke it's not something that consumes my time. It's just an observation that I made. Those who are looking aren't listening and that's too bad. A lot of food music was overlooked
Well, they did try to come back in 2000's. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine etc sound heavy metal but with less hair. Unfortunately they are short-lived. The problem with 80's hair metal is the lyrics are too shallow. The music is fun but lyrically it's pop with guitar distortion as sugar coat.
This bands returned in the early 2000s with almost all 80s metal bands. This documetary is completely irrelevant today. It was made in 1995 the last year of grunge succesful because the next year 1996 grunge die and never returned again.
Grunge did pave the way for the post grunge stuff that is still going on today. Creed were huge in the late 90's, Nickleback, Stone Sour, Alterbridge are all from the same cloth of grunge. Hair metal will never be seen as serious as alternative.
Well said...it was a 6 years break and all the 80s bands were back in 2000..not as mainstream but they were back. Now all are releasing albums, touring and doing the online stuff...
Dokken. Was more viable than the other bands.... George Lynch is right... There was a reason metallica opened for them in 1988, because at that stage, they were fuckin better.
They all fucking suck and Oasis only put out one good album. The Strokes are the worst. Kinda glad rap music outshined all those corny post 90's band limiting a chance that none of them ever get into the Rock n Roll hall of fame. Long live GRUNGE.
The music they have now you can't feel at all and they all sound the same just changed the lyrics a little bit The music industry force this music on the airwaves but I guess you have to just go to local clubs again for real music otherwise its one person who can't dance can't sing can't play anything other then a keyboard w all the band on it
Sixx words echoed loudly in 1989!!!
Thank you so much for the upload! Even the commercials bring back memories!
Lol yeah i enjoyed the commercials too
Thanks so much I've been looking for this forever, I remember watching it then. Also back when Mtv was still awesome

I'm with you 110% Lita Ford. I want my 80s rock back. There isn't any rock and roll today? What the hell happened?
MTV changed their success formula in the '90s

what are you talking about
ROCK N ROLL NEVER DIED TO BEGIN WITH

we have 2 statements here that need addressing
1. we want our 80's rock back
well, that will never happen the 80s were the 80s
HOWEVER
2. we want rock back
WELL.. IT NEVER LEFT
hehe
i don't know what lita is on about but we still have ACDC,
Metallica, Megadeth, LA Guns are still around ,
then game Linkin Park after that, evanescence is still here

Grunge happened. Most 80’s bands are still rocking and playing clubs. Do some research!
Lita Ford is still rocking too. She never really stopped. They just don’t get radio play anymore because it’s not mainstream.
Very cool upload. Nice stroll down memory lane. Thanks. Nice to remember a world that made sense
lita ford is still waiting
Ha hahayes she is
C.C. DeVille is like my talkative neighbor who I'd love to talk to
pretty nice of you to preserve and provide this-it's only overTWENTY years old&IMPOSSIBLE to find.

One of the best parts of this video are the commercials. Damn this takes me back
I remember watching this back in the Spring of 1998, totally forgotten all about this until now.

Izzy “starting to” ?
I understand every word Ozzy says
Lita Ford- where did are rock n roll go
Me - I agree ware the blank did are rock n roll go???
Lol at Kurt Cobain having been normal. Kirk Hammett has a strange idea about what is normal.
And he speaks about "Sort of a made up rock Superstar" with painted nails and lying on a yatch... hilarious.
80's music is making a comeback...kind of.
? You mean the vaporwave stuff?
fashwave is even better.
Sixx was right
Yes he was something had to happen and it did...grunge thank god
actually,..this is from "96"
11:23 is that you Ricardo?
Once and for all, “grunge” did not kill “hair metal.” “Hair metal” had been dead for a couple of years…..
Music industry killed hair metal
Objection!!! @2.46 Scorpions weren't a hair-metal band.
16:40 I think he meant Michael SWEET from Stryper.
He may have been referring to Michael Stipe of REM.
Mandilore no, he was referring to Michael Stipe from REM. At the time this came out (1998), REM were still huge, and critical darlings.
We need a musical revolution said Niki until he checked his bank statement sometime in 1992.
It's sad what happened to Hair Rock/Metal
"everyone" acted like it was a joke
It wasn't so much in the early 80s. By the late 80s and early 90s it had petty much become an aparody of its self.
still better than what came after
When MTV use to be cool...
True. That commercial for the real world, when they listed all the shows that came o after it, that brought back some memories!!
Yeah. Too bad they don't play the same music from when we were in high school. We both know that kids of today would totally like that.
