He didn't know how to win when Buster Douglass whipped his ass but we should just act like he's the Oracle of truth when it comes to boxing. Only stupid casuals worship Mike like he's this almighty god when really he's just a clown refusing to give Dimitri Bivol the credit he deserves for dominating Canelo and showing what an absolute fool he is for saying that just jabbing would have made it a completely different fight.

    • @derrictrevino6705

@@abaddontheannihilator8144 Mike simply pointed out one obvious flaw in Canelo's offensive in this last fight. Nobody is worshiping him as if he was an Oracle of truth, but you also need to remember that Mike studied under D'Amato who made Tyson study hours and hours of old fights to learn the subtle things that can make the difference between a win and a loss because he also realized that Mike was vertically challenged in the heavyweight division. In addition, Tyson is not a clown refusing to give credit where it's due, he is simply an observer saying what he saw. I predicted that Bivol would win this fight about three weeks ago and caught all kinds of slack for it. He's simply too fast, tall and disciplined to fight the fight Canelo wants him to. He will always beat Canelo barring a ring accident like a broken hand of major cut.

he needs to get more acclimated to the weight and improve his conditioning. He was clearly out of breath after the second round. Throwing those power shots that early with volume made it worse. At a lower weight it doesn’t matter because the power is the equaliser against the big boys they’re used to it. LHW has a lot of big punchers, Beterbiev, Smith jr, Callum, Yarde, etc.

Canelo was the challenger wtf. Sad Canelo lost but his defense kept him from not getting knocked out and the risks he took going up to 175 should be given respect. Only old school fighters took on the best no matter the division and lost and won some. They all had losses and still considered goats. When the difference in power is significant it makes, the disadvantaged boxer look oridinary because all of a sudden the primary concern is not getting KOd, Mantequilla quit against Monzon, literally called it off. Canelo is ATG, kinda like Duran vs Hagler, but the difference is, Canelo didn't use the jab at all, which shows he had hubris, he actually thought he was going to go in there and seek & destroy. Even Duran used the jab like he was the most devoted husband. You need the jab with bigger and longer opponents.

Not to make excuses, but it really did seem like weight was a major factor. Canelo was punching as hard as he could (enough to exhaust him by the mid-late rounds) and still couldn't pierce Bivol's guard; even when he landed those flush uppercuts, he couldn't even turn Bivol's head. Canelo might somewhat get around that by using less power, trying to throw light punches to bait a shot and counter it, but that might backfire and simply allow Bivol to push him back much easier. It also seemed like Bivol's well-timed jab and combinations made it hard for Canelo to slip & counter . Bivol's skill, compounded by his size advantage was finally too much for Canelo and I don't see that changing. I think his only chance would be to win an aesthetic fight: push Bivol to the ropes, throw big shots just for the judges (even if they don't land), then switch to 100% defense and slip punches with flash.

Good point about the difference in power. Canelo's shots just bounced of Bivol's guard with little to no effect, but Bivol's combos were battering through Canelo's guard.

I feel like mikes style of fighting would’ve been a perfect counter for the way bivol was fighting, his defense was absolute and he only opened up when canelo wasn’t throwing shots (canelo didn’t throw very many punches) so I feel like if canelo went in there with mikes style he would’ve evaded a lot of those jabs and could’ve cut angles to work bivols body and really utilize those uppercuts from the cus shift. I do know canelo is more of a power puncher and he is more planted on his feet and doesn’t tend to move around too much or do crazy footwork but if he trained this way I’m sure he could’ve won or done a bit better. Personally I believe the fight was completely one sided every single round went to bivol, he simply out boxed him and was the better fighter.

    • @7dayspking
      @7dayspking 2 роки тому +2

Listen to Bivol's interviews after the fight including his 'review' of the fight. Canelo's defensive movement was very effective, Bivol in his own words 'missed a lot of punches'. I only saw Bivol connect with a handful of punches in the entire fight, Canelo was making Bivol fall short with his jabs, that was part of the reason Canelo was able to keep walking into range to keep throwing those big right hands.
Mike Tyson probably has worse defensive movement than Canelo does, including at his best. But his feet aren't as slow, but Canelo setting his feet for his defensive movement is why his feet are slow.
Canelo had no problem getting into the right position to throw uppercuts or to the body. Bivol was just blocking his punches. Canelo need a way to get Bivol's hands away from his face or more volume and variety in his punches just to increase his chances of landing some.

Canelo will not win the rematch and he will not be going up in weight division I just can’t see it for him in the future. That’s not me saying he isn’t a great boxer he is one of the worlds best boxers but it’s simple that he was not in the right class fighting bivol he was outmatched and out boxed

Solid advice from Mike. Canelo seems to have though his 168 recipe would work again. Punch hard and disable the arm like Callum Smith then walk him down and body punch. He never changed his game plan and kept throwing everything and the kitchen sink but it all landed on Bivol's hands

  • @TheArtofBoxing101

Notice his wrists don't break once throwing those bombs. That's why cus had him wearing those mitt pads the everlast 4307's when he was young. So every punch he throw's he throws with his two front knuckles maximizing power and making sure no hand injuries accurate. Beautiful to watch at this age. Also a key note is Mike would be perfect in a street fight. Blocking is amazing but it really has limitations without gloves, though he always blocks his chin (not usually going into a FULL high guard) while slipping out of every punch and closing the distance. My God is he special.
Edit: Another thing is people never give Mike credit for his jabs. He had a BEAUTIFUL synchronized jab like Sonny Liston but imo better. Just absolutely straight and mega powerful not using just brute force like Sonny (which is one of my favorites of all time) but using his entire body as leverage. There was this quote he said when they were young and Lennox came to Catskill to spar, he didn't want to hurt him so he insisted he'd ONLY jab. That's how good this man was/is.

There’s one issue with this- Bivol’s reach both in arm and with his footwork makes it very difficult to stop his incoming combinations. He’s in and out fast. Canelo was stuck and couldn’t do anything. Tyson could because Tyson’s footwork was incredible. EDIT: To typical Dumb reply number 1 “Duyyy you know more than tyson ey?”. No, De la Hoya said Bivol dominated and the jab is not enough as well. Tyson isn’t right about all boxing just as he predicted an easy Canelo knockout. Michael Jordan also isn’t a great general manager so if this is your reply, you’re being a dumbass, plain and simple. Also EDIT: Rewatching the fight right now. I’m currently at the 12 minute mark and it’s obvious- canelo jabbed a lot at the beginning couldn’t couldn’t get through with anything he punched, nor stop Bivol effectively with a jab. Bivol has more power and mobility, period. On top of this, Bivol’s jabs were connecting and he was too quick for Canelo to jab- both too athletic for him with a longer reach as well, AND in his footwork. “The jab” alone wouldn’t have saved him against bivol. On top of this, Canelo got fatigued because he had to throw with full power just to get the power Bivol fluently transfers through his feet. Bivol was the superior fighter in that match, plain and simple. I’m such a big fan now. Sorry Canelo fans, but keep making excuses and believing a mere “jab more” would win the fight (seriously?) I’m a boxing fan.

What happens if they both move in at the same time? Or if Bivol comes in a bit too far? He gets hit. Humans cannot control how far they move forward perfectly every time. Sometimes you move too close, others you don't move close enough. Mike has only every fought opponents with a longer reach than him. Listen to him. He has 40 years in boxing. He knows shit you and I don't know because he's experienced it

    • @alaefarmestatesllc

If canelo used that jab, it would’ve prevented bivol from building momentum for his combinations. Jab isn’t there/used to knock someone out or always hit them. As hard as the judges tried to screw bivol, Tyson ain’t wrong. Had he thrown that jab a lot more, hit bivol with it or not, he would’ve “won” the fight.
