A weekend does not begin without a coffee and your video. A city dweller, who hardly stood on a farm in my life. But every repair and fix is just the best example of common sense I have ever seen. Your life is full of responsibility and hard work but you are the most mentally stable person I have ever seen. A lovely family life but I laugh at how your hardy girls, react to a dead mouse, just so normal and nice. Thanks so much for the life lessons. Mousy Moo, for the calfs name.
The wee calf is cool with the bent tail❤ while in India years ago there was a cow with a fifth leg growing out of it's shoulder.. it was a healthy fully grown cow and the 'extra' leg was like a calf size thing.. that's the way things go sometimes, it's alive thanks to you. Mind your ankle, my left one got twisted badly twice over the years (i'm 57 now) and because i didn't mind it properly Plantar Facitis set in. Blooming painful, like your foot is splitting apart..😮 and my clutch foot at that.. 😂😂😂 oh, the 'mail' dispenser is cool.. there's always something to do on a farm, coming from a farming background myself you get to learn a multitude of skills and methods for working things out..😊 as you well know, when you have other lives depending on you, you'll get the task sorted.. like yourself, work smarter, not harder😇😉🤪 great videos Adrian, always a good variety of life on the farm👍
Nice update Adrian. Those "Old Wives Tales" are really based on years and years of experience over centuries. Many scoff but male Holly really works well.
You are right. One example of an 'old wives tale' being spot on is that carrots are good for your eyes. That is because carrots are rich in vitamin A of course. Whether they help you to see better at night or not is debatable and is likely nothing more than the 'carrot on a stick' (forgive the pun!) to get children to eat them as the benefits were known. How they knew is amazing to me, but they knew.
Very interesting well done 24/7 you dont get enough credit for the hardwork that you and your family and all farmers do in Ireland to keep the food production industry moving. excellent channel very good education video's. Calf name Black eye pea or patch.
Really great video again Adrain. They are so varied and I find it very interesting when you disassembly equipment for repairs. Great to be able to tackle repairs yourself. That wee calf with the sideways tail really thrived in the few days. We have been blighted with ringworm both winter 2022 and 2023. I had forgotten about the Holly . I must cut some and get it up. Keep the excellent content coming.
Well worth buying kit for agitator and transfer hose. Saves alot of time . Make up reel and mount in something like calf transporter r anything wit wheels and make your job easier again. Keep up the great work
I love to watch your videos. You are brilliant at fixing things and I think your farm is the cleanest and neatest of any on UA-cam!!! I wish I was clever and could think of a name for the new calf.
I have a pipe on the agitater here for moving slurry, I got piping from a local contractor who was changing the pipes on his pipe system, great Job,well worth doing
Evening Adrian, could you not get rid of some slurry by travelling the lanes around your fields and shooting the slurry over the hedge ? Probably not ideal, but you could make some room in the tanks without churning up the fields. Keep up the great videos.🙂
Adrian we have a connection at the top of the NC mixer and its some job for blowing slurry across into a store. Saves a lot of back and forward with a tanker!
Glad that little calf made it, looks like its doing really well. Mind you saying that, I wouldn't expect anything else with the care and love your family gives to the animals. Have you thought about investing in a separator? Can you get grants, it might help with your slurry storage.
We’re actually ok for slurry storage at the min but plan to build a new cattle shed in 2025/26 which will have an underground tank. Never really looked into a separator much, the concept seems good
Aaaahhhh. Absolutely lovely to be back with your cows. They are looking smashing. I think your new baby with the special tail is going to make a beauty. Thank you for sharing. Take care. 😊
Hi Adrian. Looking at the wire mesh in the pen of the yellow calf. 2:15 / 20:22 I see what appears to be some bent spikes sticking out, close to the back wall. With feisty young calves jumping around there is a potential danger it could impale itself on the spike.
We had a bull calf there a few days before hand that jump from one pen to the other and broke a lot of that mesh, all them calves are now moved to a different house and the welder was out yesterday 😉. But yes a dangerous thing for sure
Can’t recommend enough the outlet coupling at the top of the agitator. Mine is a red rock and I’d be beyond lost without it. Use it to transfer mainly watery slurry to neighbouring tanks which is always really thick because of the build up from scrapers. Most recently started to use it to pump parlour wash downs into a rarely used slurry store just so I could transfer thick slurry coming up through the slats to replace the parlour wash downs. Unreal wet down in cork for most of February…slurry build up breaking my heart….
Hi Adrian and Family. Great channel and content, even though not on a farm, although was years ago when I was younger and the only place i wanted to stay when in Ireland was on my uncles farm, not to dissimilar to you, where he had to do the lot!!!! Long days and hard work!!! I was doing work while listening/watching this episode, and if i am right, i think the calf should be called either Patch or Panda!!!
Great results with the Rugby yesterday with Scotland beating England. Great varied video Adrian, got to watch in peace while my wife is bothering God at Church 😊.
@@IFarmWeFarm I'm in the US, but grew up in Germany - so by all accounts, I should love either soccer or football and I really don't care for either of those. But, husband played rugby in college some years back and ever since I'm a fan. Not a die-hard, watch it all the time fan, but just enjoy watching it so much more than any other sport. And if certain teams are playing, I've even been known to get up before 6 in the morning my time, on a weekend, just to watch the live stream of a game or two 😄
Wow did you teach me something today! Would have been better 50 years ago, but now I have a little nugget of knowledge about holly to tuck away in my memory. I thought the one with the wonky tail had a big head when you first showed her looked like a bull. If she were mine when you will get ready to breed her I would have the vet check her out to make sure everything developed ok and if she can give birth without difficulty. You have a great day. Enjoy your Sunday.
only ever used redrock pump with top fill valve, great job for moving slurry short distances, maybe when pump is up for changing but if not costing the earth its a great job adrian 👍
I done transfer before with the agitator to a tank beside another tank, it's grand if you are badly stuck for space but come time to empty the tank it's a nightmare, the agitator takes all the watery stuff out and you ultimately end up having to put back all those loads of water,
If you agitate the tank first then transfer a couple of feet and agitate again and do that every so often you will be moving slurry not water. Definitely handier than using the tractor and tank. I got the 6 inch blue collapsible hose but I might have been better getting the 4 inch as it’s a bit heavy to be doing it 2 often
If u put the spout on ur agitator u can’t mix and pump at the same time if u look at the handle on ur agitator it says mixing or filling when u pull it to filling then it will pump but u can’t mix and pump at the same time
Do you have to use a dribble bar to spread slurry all the time could you not get a long extension pipe and spread from the road into a field on still days while its wet to help lower the amount of slurry in the tanks.
Your doing a dam good job sir... even if yer just speaking to yer self infront of a camera 😅😉🤪. . Seriously you are great at explaining what your thinking and doing 👏. I just forget and go do something without picking up the camera 😮. Your calfs are looking great wish them all the best to.. stay safe 🏴
I find the pipe for moving slurry across the yard is messy to use and I find it’s quicker to use the slurry tanker , how come you not using the 5460 on the mixer ?
An old fridge is good for storing welding rods and wire or items that need to be kept dry in the workshop , not that you get to much trouble with damp in the air where you live. 😄👍
A length of lay flat and a suitable way of anchoring the outlet would save you time in the long run. I can move twenty thousand gallons in less than one hour after mixing. If you’re getting a joiner in the middle you can use it to help mix a long tank and a garden roller would be handy for squeezing it out when finished.

I agree wholeheartedly. Adrian is a good man and an exceptionally hard worker.

His idea for the calfs name is 'Moo-teeny' 🐄❤😊
Absolutely love it 👏👏
@@IFarmWeFarm from Tadhg Kinsella, age 7, dairy farmer, Co. Kilkenny.
I take back my name, Mooteeny is better, much better.
The coupling on top of the mixer is well worth it , stick her on lad , you’ll not regret it 👍🏻👍🏻

Keep up the good work 👍

Totally agree with you,, i wouldnt aim to make silage in the rain obviously but a bit of moisture in silage is much better than too dry
Hi Adrian, Why are the cows moved to the yard when mixing the slurry?
The springs look the same as what’s on my grandkids trampoline
Just yesterday Houdini was a calf herself!
Rorschach for Moodinis calf, and Curly for the one with the wonky tail!

Thanks for explaining the Holly again as a fairly new convert to your podcasts I thought you hung up the bushes for the spuggies (Sparrows) 😂
All the animals are in great condition. Fair play.

That method has been made illegal in Ireland (EU), from the roadside and farm roadways, since 2006
It’s illegal to do that here Thomas
She looks like a lucy! I'm glad the other little calf is doing well. Hopefully we have some drier weather now this coming week.
Love the video hello from the kingdom call the calf phantom

Adrian give para cord a try on your feeders amazingly strong but very flexible
Adrian watch your videos every week excellent farmer. Patch for the calf
Put the spout on the agitator. Lay flat hose and you will save so much time transferring slurry around the yard

Our ground is like a swap, you’ll see how bad it is in the next video. It’s good ground but takes a long time to dry out unfortunately
🤔 Houdini’s wife was called Bess apparently. Maybe a bit strange but I like the name Bess (my grandad called his car Cathy Bess as well)
Definitely worth doing we did with ours this year and was huge saving on time. Good video as usual 😊
You should call the calf zigzag, Jimmy Scotland 🏴
Might be worth having a look at the rates the feeders are giving. The two scoops looked to be set differently. Have the same feeders ourselves

Put it on the pump best thing you will ever do.I sent you a photo on face book on how to fix your crush gate closing hoped it helped

Hi Adrian if u keep hose to top of tank u cud get 3 loads thick slurry out of tank before water starts comming without agitating

Great video 👍
Yes it saves a lot off work
Yes the spout is a brilliant job mix the tank for about 15 minutes first and then start pumping
Calf with the tail will be a gift in the parlour never get a dirty tail across the eyes 😂
Well worth buying the kit with flexi hose saves a lot of time
We had a calf born with it's tail bent round like that now it was to suckler cow but it never caused any issues till it was as a weanling
Love the video Adrian 😍😍. I was thinking Marshmellow for the calf's name. Keep it up lad.
Hi Adrian, You could try and re-use old spring by extending out broken end slightly and bend new loop…
Might work if it is heated, otherwise it’s that hard it would just snap. Ordered 2 new ones last week and were fairly inexpensive
Spot weld a washer onto the broken tail to form an eye, usually works, but if they can be got that’s an easier fix 👍
Hello Adrian, hope u are keeping good, nice stretch in the evening, Lovely calfs , great video, chat soon, kieran from Laghey donegal town

Another great video to relax and watch on a Sunday morning 👌🏻
Great video Adrian, keep up the good work
It's 50 times quicker transfer the slurry with the agitator than the tanker. What age do you usually debud the calves at
I think that the effulent from wet silage contains a lot of the sugars.
I find the pipe for moving slurry across the yard is messy to use and I find it’s quicker to use the slurry tanker , how come you not using the 5460 on the mixer ?
Good stuff

You saying about wet and dry can't be 2 dry just double wrap it ie same plastic on the field off grass as less bales
Just a simple question , what height off ground is rail for hanging calf feeder ?
Of my head I think it’s 3.5ft
Thanks for the decent content. I always enjoy your videos.
Why do you keep the calves in the calving pen? When are they with their Moms?
The name for the new baby i would pick is patch
