Part 1: • Teddy Riley on Growing...
--------
In this clip, Teddy Riley spoke about being called to the studio for the first time, and he explained that he joined his first group when he was around 11 or 12. Teddy explained that he took his keyboard over to this band’s house and asked if he could play for them, and they brushed him off. Teddy explained that he went every day that he was able, and they finally gave him a shot after their keyboard player quit. Teddy added that the guys in the band said that they would take his Casio keyboard if he didn’t nail the audition, which he did. Teddy then explained how being in the band led to him getting noticed, and he was given advice to get a band with people that were more his age. Teddy then revealed that he met Timmy Gatling around that time, along with Aaron and Damion Hall, who were later in the group Guy with him. From there, Teddy spoke about watching the legendary battle between Busy Bee and Kool Moe D, which is when Teddy said that he started getting in the streets and hustling.

Teddy is a legend !he should have been a billionaire now
Teddy allright not everybody made for billionaire status you got to be cutthroat. Teddy chill with enough money to live real good & take care of his family
Alot of them would have been one if the industry didn’t robbed them
Him and Dallas Austin...
I’m pretty sure he has more money than he knows what to do with.
He probably would be if it wasn’t for Gene Griffin .
Vlad never interrupted this guy because he looks up to him
I think it's more because Teddy takes his time to talk and glad knows if he keeps interrupting him he will never get this done...
@@luggerphilippe8409 nah Vlad shows all the legends respect
That's because officer glad is stumped talking to man whose IQ superceded his
He a legend bro!!
@@tyresecrockett7651 that too..
Teddy is a legend. This interview was in the making!
I first came across Teddy in 1985 listening to the Kids at Work album. My cousin who was in the military at that time put me up on them. She's My Baby was that song! It's crazy how that album didn't have the momentum it deserves.
Damn, that is an AWESOME experience to see origins of one of hip-hop, pop and rnb's greatest producers.
@@thomastaylor1217 I was referring to the album that my cousin put me on. I never met or saw Teddy in person.
@@lonnellbivins4787 Naw, I got your point. I'm saying that even to have that early hearing of Teddy is dope. That's some shit we may never be able to Google or UA-cam.
@@thomastaylor1217 oh ok. My bad. You're right.
Believe it or not this guy change the the sound of hiphop and r&b hip hop grew off of what he did facts
YEP!
Came up with a whole name and all new jack swing..
This my first time hearing about dude...
@@TeamRocketWes listen to the album call guy he produced and sang on it yeah it’s just some of his work he did
Umm he’s literally the man that fused the 2 lol
Teddy Riley....my man ...I idolize this man to the fullest...always wanted to hook up with him ...it was a dream of mine just to sit in the studio and watch him create and also learn....Him Babyface and L.A Reid and Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis was the icon and still is .
..
He sound so sweet, educated and intelligent ❤️❤️❤️ lovely interview.
Your positivity is infectious...don't change!!!
What a down to earth, humble legend. Great storyteller.
I've noticed that the greats of soul and r & b tend to be every bit as relaxed, chill and humble in interview as they are on the record. Teddy sounds like he just popped 10 bars while 100% sober lol.
They are media trained.
Whenever I see Teddy Riley I am reminded of seeing him with Blackstreet years ago in Chicago. Aaliyah was the opening act. Blackstreet came on stage VERY late. I believe there was a financial dispute with the venue. The audience booed Blackstreet. Teddy Riley cursed the entire audience out.
Lol 🤣
Old school harlem all the way 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Blackstreet i my opinion was better then Guy! Both really good bands! Also Today! I had all of there CD's!
Why his shirt look like Michael Jackson's Dangerous Album Cover! 😂😂😂
He did produce that!!
Harlem 🌍‼️💯🙏🏼
Love this guy what a tru legend
Great stories
Damn man it’s so great to hear his journey of music it seems to me like his the greatest producer ever him and Dallas Austin has gotta be 💯💯
He sounds like one of Joe Jackson’s kids with a deeper voice. LOL Living legend fasho. 💪🏾
He really do lol
😭😂🤣🤣😂
Big fan of Teddy Riley. love this interview.
Thank GOD it's VLAD, not the lady he has been ruining the channel with
Exactly!!! Her and Luenell. They are Trash
She ruining it big time. First interview I’ve watched in a minute
She really is ..she laughs and agrees with everything a guest says...saying dumb shit like ”i was just about to say that"...No U Wasn't Bitch!!!!....her and Fredro do have some chemistry tho
The name of that second song by Luther Vandross/Change was “Never Too Much”
Yeah I caught that also. Still cool to hear his stories. Motivational af
Change was Glow Of Love and is a jam also.
Thought he was Shawty lo for a min lol RIP Lo
This is a OG this was the foundation of hip hop and rap
This is Hiphop history..Busy B and kmd...actually,TR produced for KMD..Go to the doctor,Wild Wild West etc...TR is one of the best if no the best producer of all time.He did it on HIP Hop and RandB
Shit Teddy produced Jay-z "The City is mine" and sampled that old 80's shit , Jay came off

Some people legend isn’t a strong enough word for
Give this dude his flowers
For your information... All of the REAL gangsters in his era were R&B singers. Facts.💯
I heard Alpo had Keith Sweat shook
My late husband would've loved to see this interview
This man is a legendary producer that has worked with the best of the best in the music industry and the music is timeless and still plays to this day. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
Why hasn't anyone made a documentary or movie or something about Teddy riding he is great
He's on Unsung on TV One...
wouaaa never told this story i realy love him for all the beautiful music that he gave to us
Yal see how soft spoken this guy is ? Him and backstreet was harder than the gangster rappers back in the day
Alpo had him shook though 😂
@@spenser6353 well you find teddy Riley and tell him that to his face 🤣🤣🤣 he'll do you like he did Q-TIP!!!!
@@grimmcyph932 that was a long time ago bro
@@spenser6353 Q-TIP is that you?????🤣🤣🤣🤗
@@spenser6353 - not even close, Teddy had a monster squad. Even Suge had respect for him.
Why these type of interviews don't get a lot of views this some legendary history from Teddy Riley him self ?
People are conditioned to respond to negative vibes. Stories of violence, drugs and horrible endings... For example, Malcolm X's daughter was found dead last year... not ONE black platform covered it at all, not ONE... But when alpo was killed 🤯...all of these clowns went nuts. Couldn't wait to be the first to cover it. Which is why I don't watch any of them like I used to. I'll watch an interview but most of the time I'm looking at agricultural videos or something dealing with self sufficiency.
That’s that old school Joe Jackson shit..back then you had no choice but to perform good but without that we may not of had some of our musical legends like Michael Jackson
The two twins Larry and Garry! I grew up with them! We are all from Morningside Ave
Nice interview Vlad
I would have been like "No problem,i'm gonna rob you if you hire me"...lol
Wow vlad is not usually this quiet 🤔
Cause Vlad admires Teddy.
For folks that think outside the box. Diddy says RnB is Dead, Tank, Teddy, Usher, Genuine all do Podcast interviews. If you understand you understand.
Gene Griffin became Guy's manager did an L.L.C. on the groups name "Guy" making him the owner of the name and publishing rights his had Teddy Riley , and Aaron Hall sign a "slave contract", giving him almost all of there lifetime royalties and publishing from the group Timmy Gatlin wouldn't sign the contract and was fired by Gene because Gene owned the group and Tim wouldn't give up his royalties and publishing to him.
Facts. And Timmy is the only one who still gets paid from that 1st Guy album and all the hits he wrote on that album. And according to him, he also wrote My Perrogative.......
Where is Gene rotting right now, in hell I hope
Luther made Never Too Much as a solo artist ! He wasn't with a group when he made that song
I was thinking the same thing
Right. The name of the group was called Change. When he was a member he sang lead on the songs "The Glow of Love" and "Searchin'" on their first album.
Good catch, but a lot of details are a blur by now
That's what I said! I thought he was going to hum "Glow of love"! Lol
this is gonna be a good one
I keep thinking this Shawty Lo
🤣 that's the goatee lol
Me too
I didn't want to say but I did too
Vlad needs to interview Kool Moe Dee
I love this man
This dude is a walking history book, Vlad might not be able to go into detail or about more topics
BigUp DJ Hollywood, a very underrated icon of Hip-Hop!!
Edit:
AND According to Kurtis Blow and Pete DJ Jones, Hollywood was the first rapper - I saw this first hand because he was my wedding DJ and he kilt it!! 😆 🙌🏿
Damn he didn't say he shot anybody or. Talked about sliding on somebody or the private jet...damn!!
Damn good point bro. Semi-sad to think about how permanently misguided this generation is… And it really isn’t their fault.
Why should he?
Black men age well... Top of the line genetics.
I thought this was a unreleased Shawty Lo interview from the thumbnail
He's literally the pioneer of trap music
The New Jack Swing, baby.

Nice interview with Teddy Riley of music groups Guy and Blackstreet. That's terrible Teddy got threatened by black men they were gonna rob Teddy if he didn't play good music. I don't know why black men gotta be acting crazy. That's why i don't have a lot of black men friends. Teddy did some good beats on my favorite black man singer Michael Jackson Dangerous album.
