Part 3: • Teddy Riley: The 1st B...
Part 1: • Teddy Riley on Growing...
--------
In this clip, Teddy Riley started off opening up about working with Doug E. Fresh, and he went on to speak about producing “The Show,” which also featured Slick Rick. Teddy explained that he was in the group “Kids at Work,” and he admitted that he didn’t want to call himself a producer. He then stated that he didn’t know if “The Show” would be a big hit, and Teddy added that he explained how to make the beat over the phone because he was grounded. Teddy went on to speak about working on Kool Moe Dee’s “Go See the Doctor” at 16, and he detailed perfecting his beat-making skills. From there, Teddy spoke about doing block parties, which is where he met Kool Moe Dee.
My first time seeing an interview with Teddy and i must say his persona is not what i thought it would be. This guy is very soft spoken, reserved and humble for being such a legend in the industry. The stuff he was doing as a teen was insane musically. Very cool dude and great interview.
It's all an act..bro believe me I know
Yes, this is the first interview I’ve seen of him, and I would have never thought he would be this soft spoken.
It’s like when Dave Chapelle was playing little John and starting talking 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Imagine your son having to produce one of the earliest big hip hop hits over the telephone because he’s on punishment 🤣🤣🤣
DJ Q was being chased through Harlem by Bishop while trying to get to the DJ battle
...but that same son is Super Talented lol
Lol that’s crazy lol
Dude produced "The Show" no more needs to be said after that..
I never knew Teddy Riley was so instrumental in so many hip-hop classics. I always only associated him with the New Jack Swing era of R&B.
Teddy’s hit list is long man . It’s laughable who y’all comparing him too lol. He really needs no comparison. He’s produced some of the most innovative game changing songs of the 80s, 90s . And I can honestly say his sound isn’t one you can oh that’s a teddy Riley production, you get surprised like teddy did that too?!

Well, there is Babyface. No shade to Teddy BUT Face has a list too long to remember. I like them both BUT Face can't be compared with anyone except Prince or Stevie IMHO.
He is arguablly the best producer of all time..I mean, he did ,Guy,BlackStreet,M.J.,B.Brown, etc..He crossed Hip Hop and RandB.
At least in hip hop. Agreed, but please don’t forget that Prince and Stevie Wonder were both producers. TR is the mirrored east coast version of L.A.’s Dr. Dre. Dre being the R & B producer who goes rap, and TR being the hip hop producer who graduates to mainly R & B.
Have U ever heard of Babyface? Maybe not hip hop but during the same time and definitely RandB.
Dont forget Keith Sweat
Mantronik was producing and beat making for Hip Hop, House, Freestyle and R&B. There was a few dope cats out there. Just depends on what genre you're into.
Man literally made his own genre, a whole legend out here
Teddy Riley as a teenager was producing hip-hop classics way back when.
The pootang was dope and you know that I rocked her, but 3 days later, GO SEE THE DOCTOR!!!
take my like for the metal gear solid reference in your username
@@sgtcreasegrease Good eye, my friend and thank you.
I was a little kid in Trinidad when The Show came out. That was the first hip hop song I ever heard
Had all the youth on the whole little island going crazy
The Show is the most classic timeless hip hop record if all time
Because I'm old AF the young guys always talk shit to me when I speak on the history of Hip Hop..but as you said, The Show even to this day is the epitome of what the music and culture of Hip Hop should make you feel! Music shouldn't make you go out here and act like an ass or be violent but should make you and others literally stand or dance all while thinking WTF IS THIS!!! my all time favorite rap song to this day!
yep
Bcrap bro..it takes two is bigger and better..rest in peace Curtis the ruler Hamilton..st.nick legend and founder of Rob Base and eazy rock..he put it together
@@dr.knickenstein5855 that’s more of a party jam
No cap, Ye is NO COMPARISON to what Riley did back then--Ye can't hold his jockstrap.
He produced songs for the Treacherous 3 and the Kangol crew...legendary.
Teddy Riley is my generation's Ye without the ridiculous antics.
Go tell him that...
"Hey bro I'm a huge fan, you are my generation's Ye without the...." 😄
That’s because the technology wasn’t around to catch it
Teddy would have did a song with t swift. They on different levels
@@a.mouthfull4901 He should do somethan with Taylor now. Taylor would kill a New Jack Swing beat.
@@nlee4566 naw remember what she did to earth wind & fire- September... She trash, Teddy is just a more humble guy.. but to be clear Taylor swift is 🗑️
Inspector Gadget is one of the all time greatest cartoons ever
Another great cartoon from that time that never got as much recognition was Count Duckula
I see you are a person of culture.
Inspector Gadget is my classic joint! My brother was into Count Duckula on nickelodeon
grew up on count duckula
Just listening to Teddy speak is pure joy😌
Teddy Riley is aging in reverse! That only comes from living a good life and not taking advantage of others. He has contributed so much to the industry that I don't know why the Grammys or BET has not awarded him accordingly. He is very talented and humble. Loving this interview, Vlad.
Teddy was making hits when I was in middle school. Straight legend.
Either I'm young or never paid attention cause just now I'm finding out Teddy Riley produced "The Show". This dude resume is crazy.
We all went to high school together. In fact Doug used to do the beatbox in music class and Teddy and I lived in the same building. When you walked in the building at night Teddy would be practicing. Hell the entire first floor should get a payout. Good days.
Shout out to Teddy .. a veteran at this point.. don't gotta produce if he doesn't
This nigga don’t rap or design anything
The Show is in my top ten all-time tracks! I had no idea Teddy Riley produced that song!
Damn man.....this interview isn't over yet and I love it so much!!! I was born in April...24th of 1982 to be exact....I love getting, hearing and learning about the great background of great people and music!!!

Man, great story. I still have the original 12 inch vinyl I bought at the local mall, which I play on my 1200's to this day.
The last true RnB/Hip Hop genius in my opinion. He literally created a genre which you can't say for any other producer.
Teddy Riley was involved heavy with new jack swing no doubt
Teddy Riley a Harlem St Nick projects LEGEND!!!!

He produced the Classical Two "Raps New Generation"

My All Time Favorite Producer and Great Guy The Legendary Teddy Riley💯💯💯
A lot of folks have produced or at least planted the seeds of some major hits and never got credit or paid for them. The music game is crazy that way.
There needs to be a movie about your life! Your story TR is amazing!
TR is legendary!
Such a Legend
I didn’t know he produced that Doug e fresh classic. Wow 🤩
Vlad has a habit of telling the interviewer their life story instead of asking the question and allowing them to answer...
This dude is so damn chill i keep forgetting who he is! Love this guy. I remember dancing to piece of my love and goodbye love at my 5th grade school dance
Respect him on a whole other level! I'd never think in a million years teddy was as humble as he was! Great Guy
You Are Such A Inspiration To me! Shout Out To Keith Sweat, Guy And Bobby. Dont Forget Micheal

Having listened to hip-hop for over 30 years, "The Show" is on the short list of greatest rap records of all-time. For him to produce that in high school shows you how gifted Teddy is
This is the confirmation I’ve been waiting for since I was a little boy! It was the Inspector Gadget theme song!!! 😝
This guy (no pun intended) is one of the GOAT producers, all genres 💯🥂
Teddy Riley influenced me at 13 years old to make music my parents bought me a keyboard for Christmas.
Guy was the shit when I was a senior in HS. 1989.
Teddy has to be the most humblest guy from Harlem ever lol
I worked for Teddy for a weekend doing security years ago. The brotha was real cool and super generous.
I met him Damion and Aaron Hall (guy) in 91 in London outside Hipperdrome they was waiting for a Cab to go to Club with a friend of mine
I remeber when ted use too practice in the basement on 127th and 7th ave when i was a kid

Vlad, shame you never thought to ask Teddy about The Classical Two 'New Generation' record he produced. Be interested to hear him talk about the small label rap stuff he produced back in the 80's....awesome foursome, rooftop crew, Disco Four, b fats, ray rock etc
