This reminds of the IRA and the British in 90's. The IRA refused to disarm and hand their weapons over to the British. The Irish insisted on our current President Cyril Ramaphosa representing them in the talks after Britain and the USA had selected a former Finnish Prime Minister to oversee the disarmament of the IRA, and therefore not fully trusting the British to honour their word. This lead to the Good Friday agreement in 2000. It had taken over 2 years for the deal to be struck which set Ireland on the course it is in today. It gives a sense of light at the end of tunnel for Palestinians, meaning Beijing as well as Moscow to some extent, are going to help you rebuild when the fighting ends, and they can do it fast. 2. It’s gonna give pressure on these fractions to maintain some type of unity government framework, because this is only how Beijing, and others will help them. So, no matter how far apart the fractions get, it burns into their minds that they gotta coalesce together for sake of the future.

China’s initial goal is Palestinian unity. Until the Palestinian factions unite politically and militarily the Palestinian will be at the mercy of the West. China’s strategy as to helping the Palestinian to establish sovereignty is incremental - first is political unity. Second is resource unity. Third is military unity. Fourth is war of liberation. Fifth is establishment of the Nation of Palestine.
Perhaps those like Abbas should not be directly involved given their history, but I think it's definitely time for the emergence of a truly unified Palestinian people. I learned many years ago that while the U.S. views these situations in terms of the next fiscal quarter, the Chinese view them in terms of decades. It is unwise to discount the cleverness of long-term Chinese plans.
