    I would like to know how accurate the speedo is on those models. It seems most large thumpers 400cc and up that their top speeds are between 160-180 kph depending on thegearing of course.

    At what speeds do you shift? mine also goes 160 and i shift about 50/60 from second to third. is that normal?

  • @rickygipsybob
    @rickygipsybob  12 років тому

    yeap ! that's right ! after mounting the new exhaust, just had to set up the carburator and remove the air box to make this motorcycle breathe more freely ! :)

    I rode my drz sm for the first time today. Near work is a long straight thats empty because it only leads to an industrial park. Truth be told it didn't blow me away. I've never rode big singles before and my drz has 434 kit, fcr carb, 3x3 mod, full rs2/3 exhaust(can't remember what they are now). Its my first time riding it so im not gonna get the most out of it but i felt almost like, was that it? I normally hurt my husky te125 to work and i love it. Hopefully as i use the drz more I'll unlock more of its power? Maybe i need to adapt to 4 stroke power i don't know.

      The corners i was taking it careful because i didn't want to bin it but the straight i let rip and yeah, i was expecting my arms to snap and the front wheel trying to flip. I do like the torque of it but my husky feels so much more lively lol. And that has knobblies on it with no grip yet felt faster😂 im sure its just because im not use to it. It certainly has low end power I'll give it that, but once going along its meh..? I really hope it has more potential. I also have a crf450x thats supermoto'd. I don't actually have my licence yet so ive avoided using them on the road!

    I have a DRZ400S with 3X3 mod, exhaust and JD jet kit with 15 / 46 gearing. The bike is comfortable until about 90 KPH after which point the engine starts screaming. This bike is not much good for the highway unless you don't mind revving the hell out of it all the time. This bike needs a sixth gear badly.

    • @RoaringMuffin
      @RoaringMuffin 9 років тому

      Or you can change your gearing..

    • @pwheeler1972
      @pwheeler1972 9 років тому +2

      RoaringMuffin I tried that - either I lost the torque for technical off road riding and acceleration or I have no highway speed. Basically the bike is good for only very short highway rides if you want to retain any sort of off road ability and fun power. Too bad - I love the bike but I expect eventually I will sell in favor of a KTM or Husqvarna. I would like to see a DRZ500S with fuel injection and a six speed gear box.

      ***** Rebuilding the engine on a brand new KTM500 EXC after 135 hours (service manual) does not sound reliable to me. Both CR500s and the YZ250 I have owned went much longer than that without an engine rebuild and they were race bikes. As for riding technical it can be done - I do all the time - not easy but it can be done.

      ***** The KTM 500 EXC has been on my mind for a long time but reliability is very important since I often go many miles in the woods alone. I was almost convinced to keep my DRZ and buy a street bike I am now looking at the KTM and Husqvarna websites. :-) I am in no rush though I have over four feet of snow in my front yard and more fell today - the worst April my 80 year old father in law has ever seen.

      is the drz easy bike for everyday in the city?

    • @Tj1056
      @Tj1056 8 років тому

      deathstroke - yea works great. Better city bike then the wr450 and any other large bore bike. The other good city bike is the wr250 but that struggles a little bit at highway speeds.
