    Awesome skills mate. And nice touch running the pine through into the lacewood drawer front. I smart design choice I think.

    Great work - were you inspired by Mike Pekovich's designs by any chance?

      You mean "The Pod God"? Ha Yes, Pekovich was an inspiration for this one. Good eye

    Is it just me, I’m seeing a pencil line on finished piece at 7:39?

    • @bigben380
      @bigben380  Рік тому

      Amongst the knife lines and the gaps in the dovetails, I'm sure there is a pencil line in there as well. But if you are referring to the horizontal line? that is the knife line, from the dovetail layout. In retrospect, I probably should have just removed it before assembling. Thanks for watching, Drew

    Great work, how did you hang it up one the wall? french cleat?

    • @bigben380
      @bigben380  6 років тому

      Thanks, and yes I used a french cleat, recessed into the back of the cabinet.

      Thanks. I used dewaxed super blonde shellac. Pretty much my go to for every project. Lasts forever, and super durable. By far my favorite finish.

    Why didn't you do lapped dovetails for the drawer front!?

    • @bigben380
      @bigben380  6 років тому +6

      I thought the lacewood was a bit dominating, so to break it up, I did through dovetails, revealing some of the pine drawer sides. It carried the aesthetic of the door down thought the drawer.

    Can you tell me how you attached the back panels? Are they glued in the recess? (It is not obvious or me in Pekovichs book and your video.)

    • @holzmoewe3246
      @holzmoewe3246 3 роки тому

      Probably screwed...

    • @bigben380
      @bigben380  3 роки тому +1

      It is a traditional shiplap. Multiple board with rabbits along each side. Each boards rabbit hold the next piece (with the opposing rabbit) in place. A screw on the top and bottom of each board attaches them to the cabinet, while still allowing for seasonal movement. I'm sure Finewoodworking has an article on it somewhere in their archives.

    • @oldmanfromscenetwentyfour8164

      The marks at 7:36 and others on the dovetail sides of the drawer

    • @nickyork8901
      @nickyork8901 6 років тому

      Some people like to see those marks, as the sign that these are hand cut traditional dovetails. I think they look great.

    Am I missing something? Why is it called the "Valley Wall Cabinet""

    • @bigben380
      @bigben380  6 років тому +1

      I called it the Valley Cabinet due to the depth of the all the joining pieces. Other than the individual pieces making up the pattern of the kumiko, each piece dies into another, creating shadows throughout the cabinet. It reminded me of the same qualities you see as the sun crests over a ridge, shading the valley below. Oak Cabinet also would have worked. Ha
