We've got a bird feeder and noticed many birds coming to feed: finches, scrub jays and mourning doves. When I've noticed they were trying to build a nest under our balcony, I've made my research about them and was very positive that we want them! They are very lovely, always hang out in pairs, pick one partner for life, sit on eggs together, changing turns, don't do any harm, feed mostly on seeds, including weed seeds. What a nice addition to the garden!
We've made them a better place to live, the one they were considering was to narrow, and we had to wait patiently for more than a month for them to make their mind, but we've been rewarded! They are official residents of our backyard and have been sitting on eggs, taking turns, for the 4th day already. Can't wait to see the whole process! We made a really easy DIY nesting area for them.

My dad was bed bound and right outside his window was an old pot with old silk flowers. We got to experience two seasons of beautiful doves 🕊. I researched everything about them and shared with my dad every thing I learned. During one season they had three set of babies. The momma and daddy took turns sitting on the eggs, feeding the babies every thing a couple would do for their little ones. I took so many pictures of them exchanging places for the other to go out and get food and clean themselves. It was a beautiful bonding time for my dad and myself. He would yell at me to tell me their switching places and got to see the babies grow up and fly away even. The next season they came back and cleaned their nest up, brought new twigs and weeds to make their home perfect for the new season of bringing life into the world. Memories I’ll cherish forever!! I even actually pet one when I took pictures. They were actually very calm. Just wanted to share because your video is wonderful and brought back great memories. 🕊 🕊
I love to see this ❤️! I live near Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve had the same pair for 7 years! I love them. They’re here every year and they get use to you. Move slow, offer treats, talk to them, defend them, and when the babies start moving around, give them space! They have a few hatchlings a year here, and they are adorable, some of the babies will hop close for snacks because mom and dad will. Cracked corn and sunflower seeds are a favorite along with a nice clean bird bath.
Oh that's so sweet. Unfortunately, this pair left the nest... They've been sitting on their eggs for a while and then they left.. I've checked, no eggs inside.. I believe some big bird took them.. But I'm still hoping for a pair settling down. We're keeping the wood plank we've made for them and keep bird feeders full, which they use very often.
Is ohio actually so weird that theres so many memes about it?
@@irinaju they always return to their nests. Most migrate, while a tiny remnant of young males remains. Maybe spring they’ll show up.
A Good home for Mourning Doves. They like bird baths too.❤
So beautiful- thank you for being such a kind and caring person. People like you make the world better.
Awwww that was a great nesting place for the doves, loving your garden, it’s a playground for nature ❤️
I wish i had neighbors like you
Such a nice idea! They are so enjoyable to watch too.
We are in Austin Texas -- these doofy birds are so clueless that I think their strategy is to make us feel sorry for them so we but boxes and put up nests for them haha 🤣 We had to add one when we got sick of them trying to build on our outdoor ceiling fan! Cute video. I hope they return each year.
It’s 100% their strategy.
Mourning doves are such peaceful birds, I love my pair that live in my bird feeder/now nesting bed combined lol, pops sits on the eggs during the day and momma at night, but now as they sit on our 2 eggs they just look down and pick away at the seeds
We could watch them all the time, we have a family of Cardinals and it's so cool to watch them!
This is a really good idea, doves are beautiful and their coos are so pretty
So nice of you to give them more room to nest. Robins nested in a similar place at my grandmothers and they are now feeding their babies.
I love this so much. You should set up a timelapse! Looking forward to a follow-up video.

Males are on the nest in the day babysitting the eggs sitting on them then the female takes the night shift always. I didn't have to do anything to attract them, I have them on my front porch above my front door in one of those antique windows that open up from the bottom and not all the way, it's hard to explain them and they are old windows that I don't think you can get them nowadays from a hardware store. This house was built in 1897 so probably original when built. I also have some weird windows that has rope inside the frame of the window and never seen that before until living in this house. The same couple of doves have returned this year they have been using that nest for 3 yrs maybe more I have only been here for 3 yrs so might of been doing this longer than 3 yrs. You can almost reach up and pet them but I don't I leave them be.
Watching it agian so cute
You'll have an entire family soon!
Mourning doves are also devoted parents but horrible construction builders
I scatter NYGER SEED on my driveway and the mourning doves come every morning and evening. 🙂

When you said "you will be loved here". Aww. Because here in Dubai as much as we want to feed the birds they will just leave poops in our Balcony just like what's happening in other homes.
i bet where you live is Las Vegas Lakes area
It's South California, close :)
Why do you guys travel so much and why do you guys “road school”
That's what we like. We wanted to explore and be free. Now we have settled down, and still homeschool.
@@irinaju why do you guys still homeschool?
@@Duvmasta That makes way more sense to us. We don't think formal education is very effective nowadays, in the era when any info can get to you instantly and you can get a course of any subject if you need it easily. The most important is to teach the kids how to think and evaluate the info, which is what we teach them. Also it gives us a very good time freedom.
@@irinaju why don’t you guys think that formal education is effective nowadays? And why are you guys so obsessed about freedom?
@@irinaju you already told me all of that stuff. You’re not telling me why you think formal education is ineffective nowadays and why you guys are so obsessed about being free.
