What's your favourite rap/hip-hop song that features the piano?? Chapters: 0:00 - Intro 0:48 - "Still Dre" Dr. Dre 3:56 - "Changes" Tupac 8:30 - "Same Love" Macklemore 12:34 - Homework!
So the 2PAC "Changes" is Bruce Hornsby "The Way It Is". A couple that I really like are "I Ain't Mad At U" by Pac again which is a Debarge sample and Jay Z "Somewhere In America", I really like the diminished chords on that one. Thanks!!!
For anyone watching this, if you want Still D.R.E. to sound even better, play the right hand notes as an ascending staccato roll, rather than a solid chord. That's how it's done on the album. :)
@@nimazsheik5152 Lol! Apologies... I didn't really know how else to word it. But essentially, you play the first note of the chord, the middle note, and then the last note in a very fast upward rolling motion, releasing each note immediately as you play it. If your hands hurt from doing it repeatedly, you're doing it right, lol.
Hi ya , Lisa You got me I'm Playing the Still Dre, it's lovely , quite lively, I'm a big fan of music been playing the keyboard, for 3 years now and I'm loving it keep up the good works maybe 1 day you'll get to hear what & how I play. Your on point, Guitars & Piano are so related like we are keep up the good works ! LOVE
It nice the way you cover the whole spectrum of music from Taylor Swift to Tupac. It also keeps playing the piano interesting when you all kind of music. The fun fact about it is you started out as a classical pianist and now your jamming Dr Dre. That's why I'm sticking to Pianote lessons because I want to play all kinds of music. I especially want to be able to play piano songs to the way I feel at the time. Thanks !
I stopped playing the piano for about 5 month now and i got fired up!!! I discovered this channel a week ago and started playing again thanks to your videos :) please try to get a video with the song "Final Fantasy - To Zanarkand " , its really nice. Keep it up. Thank you!
Even though wouldn’t know rap music if I fell over it, this was a clever idea for a tutorial. Hope you do some 90s house piano riffs one day....( rock da house, ride on time etc..) although I now realise a lot of them weren’t played ( they were sampled chords on single keys etc).....it’s what got me interested in piano originally anyway 😁
You and Zach from Piano Superhuman have been my only Teachers, Thank You so much for doing these videos they are sooo helpful. I wont forget about you guys when i make it big!!!!! P.S. Are you the girl from "Clarissa Explains It All"?
Ah the Discman reference will have just confused all sub 20's viewers lol - i miss my discman - i even had a minidisc player back in the day. Great tutorial as always, as an adult learner i have found these to be a valuable source of tips/tricks and tutorials.
Hey, Lisa, I love your vids. Awesome content. Anyway, I grew up with Hip Hop and Soca/Reggae/Rock/Grunge Rock/Classical music etc...and I assume that many commenters here already mentioned the fact that the piano riff in Tupac's 'Changes' was sampled from a song from over 10 years earlier in 1986 --- "The Way It Is" by the group 'Bruce Hornsby and the Range'. If you haven't already checked out that official music video, you should really do so. Bruce Hornsby kills it on the piano...and the lyrics are very powerful, serving as a social commentary. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I think their song hit #1 on the Billboard Charts back in 1986.
Just an addition on the Dr Dre song....it’s officially played a little different. You can watch videos of the producer who made the piano riff, Scott Storch (known as the piano man of hiphop), and plays it with only white keys (which is actually easier to learn also). Chords are: A minor, A sus2, and G major. He also produced a lot of other songs so definitely look those up. Have fun!
im completely new to music like at all. no clue how to read it or anything. im going to start with ur videos. just bought a keyboard. if anyone has any advice please lmk
I returned to this video after managing to play „still Dre“. No I am trying „same love“. I really like this video and it helped me with my very first steps knowing nothing about playing the piano. The feeling I have when I play the riff (?) correct for the first is absolutely stunning. Thank you for teaching me. I‘d really like more Macklemore or other easy rap classic. The only thing I find a bit hard is to get the notes right as I have no clue about it. Maybe you can slow this a bit down or show something like e minor first then c or whatever. Anyway - thanks a lot
As a gigging musician I appreciate the accelerating dumbing down of music as it makes my job a lot easier. Unfortunately the next generation of "musicians" won't have much work unless they are content to drag and drop beats or talk simple polyphonic four bar riffs into their DAW midi system to pump out forgettable synthetic garbage. I teach guitar at a company that once had a number stores in the region with lines of kids waiting for lessons or to rehearse their bands. Now they have one location and barely enough students to keep the doors open. Competition in my line is also dwindling and for that I am grateful. It's amazing to realize virtually all the musicians on the scene are 50 and older! Kids are stroking their phones all day, lack any focus and are sitting around working on their diabetes and a shortened life span. I don't need the money so I don't have to accept the PC BS and sit around smiling, lying and ignoring the observable truth. Everybody else can just keep up the happy talk and play pretend because they need the UA-cam clicks.
Hi Andrew, as a young lover of music I think your being closed minded and making generalizations about the youth, especially when you mentioned that line about diabetes. There are great popular young artists releasing music nowadays: FKJ, Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, Billie Eilish, Jacob Collier, Monty Booker, Domi & JD Beck to name a few. I understand where you’re coming from, but the music scene is changing, and I recommend you stay open minded.
Hi Pianote! U have been a great help to me in composing my own song! By these videos, my song has come out great..... But I am not able to continue the song with proper notes and chords..... Pls suggest Pianote, Thanks!😉
this would have been a great video if you were teaching chord pressions and theory...I wouoldn't want to practice on something like this unless I could play it as a solo...i mean, when will i actully need to play this...i could spend time better by practicing my scales and harmony progressions...
Do you have a trick to playing a complicated song that almost sounds like you’re playing two different songs with each hand? My issue is I practice the left hand and do it very well, then I practice the right hand and it sounds great but we I need to play both at the same time my brain short circuits.
What's your favourite rap/hip-hop song that features the piano??
Chapters:
0:00 - Intro
0:48 - "Still Dre" Dr. Dre
3:56 - "Changes" Tupac
8:30 - "Same Love" Macklemore
12:34 - Homework!
Cash Rules Everything Around Me (CREAM) by Wu Tang has a cool piano sample
Roses by OutKast has a great piano intro. Also “changes” (the way it’s by Bruce H) is my all time favorite hip hop song with piano
What's your piano take on Hypnotize by Audioslave?
Slim shady has a nice riff
''That's The Way It Is.'' Bruce Hornsby and the Range is the Tupac song.
Kind of Billy Joel style but definately "thats just the way it is"
the song is changes by tupac that samples it
So the 2PAC "Changes" is Bruce Hornsby "The Way It Is". A couple that I really like are "I Ain't Mad At U" by Pac again which is a Debarge sample and Jay Z "Somewhere In America", I really like the diminished chords on that one. Thanks!!!

Excellent tip!
What do you mean by an ascending staccato roll?
Yeah would be great if you could elaborate what an "ascending staccato roll" is :)
@@nimazsheik5152 Lol! Apologies... I didn't really know how else to word it.
