I got some 80s Ludwigs, 5 piece. Played a wedding once in 100 degrees no shade. I was much younger then so lived through that but my drums didn't take it very well. I need to re-wrap them but I've never done it.
Shawn, greetings from South Bend, WA. I love videos like this one and would love to see more episodes of your treasure hunting. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Yeah man! Cool to see that old bill of sale. My own first kit came from that same shop on High Street. Good memories of that place - I was like 10, but it left an impression!
I dig those old Fibes so much! AMAZING find. I have a modern Gretsch USA cusotm with the micro sensitive throwoff. and I love seeing the original out there
Whoa - Bobby Chouinard's stuff - awesome! His nephew, Roger Chouinard, has an awesome record store here in New Bedford! Purchase Street Records. He wrote a book about him, too - and has his old Ludwig kit in a pink wrap. Super sick!
I literally just spoke to Roger for the first time a little bit ago, he hit me up on Instagram. Good dude, I told them if I ever sell them he's got first dibs. He doesn't know the complete history but believes his uncle owned these at one point. Bobby was born in 53' and the guy I bought these off of bought them in 72' I'd guess for what they cost if in fact he owned them it must have been late teens as 15 yr olds usually don't have a bunch of cash laying around haha unless rich parents lol thanks for watching!
Interesting, I'm not exactly sure how I would do that as it's pretty random. I search all the online place's multiple times a day, really that's about it but I'll try to come up with something more in detail. Thanks for watching!
Those moon gels are mt favorite!!! They’re way better than regular moon gels, way cheaper, and you get a ton of them! I would recommend these to any drummer, they won’t let you down!🔥🥁
Really cool, never heard of that snare drum before. Bobby Chounard was the drummer for Billy Squier, passed away a few years ago. They sound great! Crazy good sound for sitting for decades. Awesome man!!
So many people I've talked to have never heard of or seen one either, luckily I have some really knowledgeable friends that filled me in on it. I really liked Bobby's playing and I know right? Their tuned up pretty decent for not being hit in who knows how long! Thanks brother!
Right? I was surprised they were still pretty much in tune and yes one ply is toast! The snare sounds awesome imo and I'm typically not a fan of acrylic snares. Thanks for watching!
As a guitarist who wants to learn to play acoustic drums (currently finger drumming), I found this very interesting. Would love to see more videos on drum hunting. I feel attracted to 70’s Sonor Centennials.
If you ever want to sell any of your natural thermogloss Luddy drums I'd be delighted as you know I live in the UK and there's nothing over here I've been searching for a 6ply 13x9 natural thermogloss tom for well over ten years !!!
It would help if you didn't handel your cymbals with your bare hands use gloves I know the asid in your hands can pit the cymbals that cause cracks read about it
Thanks!

Damn, they sound amazing. Can't get over how good the kick sounds - especially since one of the plies is ripped?
