      Thank you, Dick. Not a world I really had any intention of entering but I think this could be fun. I think it might take me a little while to learn how to get things centred on the engravings. I might need to get a more sophisticated software. Being as cheap as I am that might not happen very soon. 🤔🤔 Thanks for watching!

    Interesting video. Thanks. Can you burn on circular, conveyed or concave surfaces?

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you liked it, Karl. No, I don't have a Rotary Axis for it so it won't cut on circular things like wine bottles, etc. On concave or convex surfaces I suppose it would depend on the depth of the concavity. I think it would likely be a bit uneven if the change in surface depth was very different. Thanks for watching!

    Well I saw this popup Gord and just had to watch. Great review of the laxer and it looks to be a very nice one. I have had 2 offers to review different brand lasers but both had to be completly assembled and did not look as sturdy as this one. I do like the looks of this laser and having 2 CNC machines I understand the whole process.
    Very cool!

      Thank you, Gary. Your opinion means a lot, as always! I tried to be thorough but of course there were things I didn't think of trying as some of the other commenters have pointed out. I don't know how well it would engrave metal or plastics. Maybe I will have to do a follow-up video covering some of those things at some point. I accepted this laser because they sent it to me without asking me to sign a contract as some others have wanted. I don't believe in signing a contract without having a lawyer look at it and it isn't worth it for a tool that I don't really need. However, I must admit this should be useful once in awhile. Thanks for watching, Gary!

    Good demo Gord. Do you think it would engrave medal or maybe even plexiglass? Just wondering.

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Danny. I believe it would engrave metal to a certain degree although I'm afraid I didn't think to try it. For plexiglass I would need to try it but for many plastic type pieces I believe it would just melt it rather than engrave it. Sorry I can't be more precise about that. Thanks for watching!

    Is this laser also suitable for cutting through material as it is quite an elaborate machine compared to my machine.k

    Thanks Gord for the review. I used a laser similar to this one about 25 years ago. From my experience, amoked up mirrors and too much flash near the burn is a result of poor ventilation. They really need to have an external exhaust fan drawing the smoke and air out.
    Back in the day these machines ran about $28,000!

    • @GordonRock1

    Very good review of a nice looking laser engraver, Gord. I can see some good uses in woodturning and other woodworking, as well. It's much more powerful than my little laser at only 5 watts. I imagine you could lay out a design for your logo coin and cut them out by the sheet. Looks like you could just engrave your logo on the bottom of some bowls too, though not sure how deep the bowl could be. It looks like a well-made machine that could maybe use just a bit more QC. I'm looking forward to seeing what you might use it for in any future videos. Gotta love technology! Very enjoyable video, my friend!

      Oh yeah, Phil, I do love technology. Of course, that's when it works. I do want to learn how to use this thing a bit better but that will take me awhile. I still need to be on my lathe more often than anything else. I just bought a drone so I need to learn to fly that, too. Not enough hours in the day for all the hobbies I want to be involved in! Glad you think it looks okay, Phil. I think your engraver might be a better bit of kit for many things but this one should be good, too. Not sure about the depth of bowl I can engrave. I'm already wondering about cutting the bottom out of the case to see what would happen. That might be a real bad idea and I think I might have had one or two bad ideas in the past so maybe I should rethink that. 😁😁 Take care of yourself, buddy! Thanks for watching!

    That's a nice review, Gord. I know nothing about laser engravers, so this was interesting to watch. I did notice you were able to etch glass. That's a neat feature since I use to do quite a bit of stained glass work and incorporated chip glass using hyde(hide) glue or use compressed air with an abrasive to etch the glass. The glue would cause the glass to chip in different ways after it is heated to about 120-150 degrees, then rapidly cooled in an ice chest . I may have to look into one of these since I still do stain glass, but but no longer own a business and do things commercially.

    Good review, Gord. If money weren't an issues, I think one of those would be neat. The one Phil recently reviewed looked more versatile, but this is obviously more feature-rich. But, if they sent this to you with misaligned mirrors, and inadequate instructions I'd think they have a ways to go. You had to do a lot to get it working.
    I have the same scissor jack. Love that little thing for my left elbow rest when turning, holding my bed extension up while bolting it on, or a height adjustment for my ancient drill press in place of its tedious height adjustment. :) Honest critique of the engraver.

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you liked it, Jay. I don’t hold Vevor responsible for the misaligned mirrors. That could’ve happened anywhere including transportation of the unit if it was dropped or bumped and I could’ve even done it myself without realizing it. It takes so little to be out of line it’s ridiculous. Once I had it working I was quite pleased with the results. The only problem I have with it is that I have a very small shop and it takes up a lot of room. But since I didn’t have to pay for it I think I can let that go. Thanks for watching, Jay!

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried engraving on metal but I have watched a few other UA-cam videos that showed people trying it. Apparently you can't engrave very well on bare metal but if you coat the metal with certain compounds it can be done. The one that seems to work the best in most of the tests is either Dry Moly Lube or Galvanizing Compound. The problem with them is that they are very expensive. Certainly more than I would be willing to pay unless I had a real need to engrave something. Sorry I can't give you any first hand experience with it but I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    This appears to be a most comprehensive review. I thought you covered it quite well. 👍👍Still, additional questions come to mind. How good were the instructions that came with the machine? You said you did not have any previous laser experience. How long did it take before you could produce a product? Did you find anything about the machine that you thought was a flaw? How long did it take the machine to produce your test pattern? How loud (quiet) is the machine? If you needed a machine would you buy this one? Thank you for sharing my friend. Have a great day and stay safe. 🙂🙂

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  2 роки тому

      Glen, I spent a day going over the machine and familiarizing myself with it. Then I spent a day figuring out the software to make it run. A day after that I was able to start doing some actual engraving. I didn’t see anything that I consider a flaw except for the fact that the mirrors were misaligned but that could’ve been because of being bumped in transit or I may have done it myself. I didn’t time how long it took to make that pattern but I would guess about 20 minutes for the larger one. I don’t consider it loud, certainly not as loud as my CNC router. Would I buy one? That’s a difficult one to answer. If I felt I needed one yes I would but I don’t think I would get enough use out of it to go to the expense and don’t forget I am a very cheap guy! 😉😉 Thanks for watching, Glen!

      The K40 is quite a popular size of laser. Yours looks like a top of the line in that category. One of the best ways to eliminate charring is to add an air source that blows directly on the cut that whisks away the burnt materials an keeps the “edges” of the cut too cool to burn unless the laser is currently focused on that spot. If I am not mistaken you should have no problem cutting 1/4” material.

      Thanks for the tip, Dan. I will have to look into that. It would be nice to have it engraving without any of that charring.
