For extra contrast and before varnish... run the ball end in a flame.. the char will add major contrast and you have fire hardened the ball!!

Blunting the nail works by making the nail cut its way through the wood fibres rather than forcing its way in between them.

Screw a screw into the bottom.. put the screw into a hand drill and run the dowel tip against the running belt grinder! Perfect dowel at the end!

Getting older is bloody horrible but it has a couple of advantages. First, no one takes any notice of you, so you more or less become invisible and second, no one questions why you're carrying a walking stick. If you're younger and you're walking around with a walking stick with no good reason, you can be pulled up by a copper. I carry a stick all the time even though I don't need one.
Your stick is really nice, I don't have the necessary skills or tools to make one myself but, if I did, I'd maybe put a load in it to give it some extra heft.

Very Good Build. A walking cane that is also a very good Defensive/ offensive weapon. My late Poppy ( Irish grandfather) killed a few thugs back in the day with his shillelagh. I might not be here if not for that cane. Watched the whole Video because I really hate the silly " First " comments that are useless.

Hi fella, is this actually legal in the uk, I was told that a ball end can actually be taken from you as an offensive weapon. I know you can probably get away with in rural area’s. but what about the city or an airport. I travel a lot normally when this COVID shit is over.

Pretty sure there is NOT, looks a bit weird if your 20 and stood in a tracksuit down town out side the shops, but yeah, there no reason why anyone can't carry a walking stick.
Just don't ever say its for self defence.
