Fifth metatarsel broken years ago, had surgery recently to saw off excess bone growth, now doc told me tissue isn't cured completely and need to give it some more time, but I hope it's only tissue and nothing worse because it's been months since and pain still persists

My experience: I have a Fifth Metatarsal fracture (Jones fracture) on the right foot. Treatment is with a boot, I used it exactly as directed . Went last week for a follow up at 14 weeks, still not healed, told to continue with the boot, come back in 6 weeks.

Wow, that is interesting... good to know because Im in a similar predicament but started to walk on it way too soon, and its not healed...
I heard someone else talk about their healing journey and they said it took them about 6 months, even 12 months to be fully restored, they where a runner too, fit, healthy and even they needed time to see healing to take place, also the feet get less blood supply too, which also slows down the healing process... His surgeon refused his client to have anymore scans after 3 months because the bone can take anywhere between 6 to 12months to see the healing to take place... sometimes its best not to look at the scans too often as it will play on the back of your mind, stressing you out (While your still in your healing stages), that is exactly what his surgeon told him.
      I hope this helps.
      God bless :)

I want to take the opportunity to thank you for the educational materials that you have provided on the youtube channel.
    It is much appreciated.
Question regarding my injury and whether or not if i should consider surgery this coming days. I have a fracture to the fifth metatarsal due to an avulsion in zone #1, with a slight displacement to the left foot while playing tennis recreationally. Want to know the best possible method for my injury. Surgery with risks and benefits or natural healing risks and benefits?
From your videos, usually with the zone 1, do not need surgery and let the natural healing process take its course and should start to heal slowly between 6-8 weeks. With this natural method, will the bone fused or not fused with my displacement without surgery intervention, will it causes issues in my mobility once healed, fused, or malunion, etc.
If surgery, will it cause discomfort or complication in the future? basically risks & benefits with surgery?
thanks in advance for your reply.

So bizarre. What about a 5M fracture midshaft dancer’s fracture (not Jones and distal, occipital, acute minimally displaced?) I heard that fractures lower near the base do not get the blood flow but the one I have does not have that problem.

I'm a runner, 7 months on with an avulsion fracture, didn’t require surgery. Nearly fully healed, I'd say about 90%. I have been doing physio rehab and back running again, but sometimes get pain at the top middle of the foot. I got an mri scan and it found swelling to ligaments/tendons. Any advice to when these symptoms will disappear and I'll be 100%?

hi. im a drummer and have a prolonged (5 year) stress fracture in my right foot from the bass drum pedal in the second and third metatarsals. i also made it worse by running. is there anything that you can recommend for my feet? i need to be able to play drums for two hours a day. i usually play high intensity rock n roll. its my life.
i had switched to barefoot running shoes both for running and drumming and they may have caused problems.

Hey! Same here. I fractured mine 2 weeks ago and last week my foot was put in a cast. The doc told me to wait for 5 weeks before they take out the cast and have an x-ray to check the recovery. I thought I could ask you about how your recovery process is going so far since it looks like a similar situation.

After 6 weeks my fifth metatarsal shaft had no union but I will be undergoing right knee surgery after a month. Is it alright to proceed with right knee full replacement if by that time, the metatarsal fracture has not healed yet.
