  • Previously, we discovered that Oliver has been carrying an apple, the symbol of dreamscape ownership, inside of Benjamin's reality. In Mrs. Hills' reality, Quinn, her son, died when he was three months old, prompting her to become a Lucid as a way to find her lost memory of him, despite her husband, Arthur, objecting. Now, Benjamin confides in the Jaspers, while Oliver struggles with his tragic past...

So that means that he put his brother in a coma, he was trying to get his brother back, he has the apple, get yerkmaped, he is the dream master in a loop in denial, trying to end it, trying to change the future, he was trying to get his brother to change the future with him, but he had already lived a life there, he had a child of his own, even in dreams they grew, mabye the world is fake but as long as it is all you have ever known it is and will always be your reality.and as long as you can dream you are real whether or not you are the master, as long as you can dream you are alive.all of it was clues, the teacher trying to find her son, the father coming to find her, the idea that dreams and memories are one in the same. Or it is all I'm my head and I'm missing interpertating everything cus what do I know I'm just a 13 year old trying to find good content so that I can use it as an example for how I would want my story to be written if I was an author or director.

Wait at the start of Oliver and Benjamin, Benjamin had the apple, so is was all his dream, while he was in the comma, and Oliver is going in and trying to wake him up. When they where first as whole foods ben had the apple, but when they went back to when they where kids they jumped into. But then why did ben want to go living his life. Did he know he was in a dream, did he think his life was a dream, did he only love his life because it had all the things he loved with the control and predictability of it being his own dream while still having the random and spontaneous new things because of his still innocent and simple yet extremely complex imagination. Or am I just reading to much into things

The dialogue flows so well, it feels like he is having genuine conversations with other people, even though it’s just him. And the humor 😭😭 is so unique and subtle and clever. God, I found out about this late. I watched all of The Adventures of Benjamin & Oliver, Jasper, and Lucids tonight and I'm having the hardest time wrapping my head around everything that's happened. Very, very hard to keep track of, but also absolutely genius. This is absolutely incredible, and so so so amazing for just one (or- technically a few since your parents helped with voices, but you seem to have done the heavy lifting) person to have done.
My original takeaway and theory from the "waking up to a therapist" scene was that Oliver had just been creating an entire fake storyline, including everything about "dreamscapes" in his head because of the hugely traumatic experience of "the accident." Therefore, everything, or most of everything in the previous episodes was a story that he made up to cope, with this, this therapist and this accident, being the ACTUAL reality. It would make sense with the idea that you play all the characters, though the consistency with the therapist also being played by you could trip up that theory, and it could have just been a casting decision, not meant to be interpreted with story reasoning.
Though, some of the comments led me to believe that everything about dreamscapes actually... happened? Which I can't see being the case. But, as I said before, everything about this is so very confusing to me and it's quite difficult for me to wrap my head around it.
I was very confused by Oliver circling "Benjamin" in the list of names, and why he wrote the list of names in the first place. I was thinking maybe when he said "experiment", he meant a mental experiment, like another storyline in his head, but I wasn't sure. I was also confused why there were other names, since I don't recall seeing any characters named any of those names. (Though, I do recognize The Beatles, hahah.) But, I did see that the "Ben" part, of the "Benjamin" in the notebook was scribbled out, so I'm not quite sure what that's about. My best guess would be creating and experimenting with a different "character" in his mind, Jamin? Though, that feels a bit odd.
I could be very, very, very wrong, as I was confused just by the sheer speed and evolution of things in the beginning of the story, but I just wanted to say that I am SO very looking forward to seeing more of this, even if it's quite the mind-boggler. Good luck on continuing this, I'll be there for it!
EDIT: I just noticed that in the very beginning of "The Adventures of Benjamin & Oliver", Oliver was holding a notebook, and when Benjamin said "Oliver?" questioningly, Oliver scribbled something down on said notebook. I'm not becoming even confused about the order of everything happening. I'm not quite sure how this adds into Oliver scribbling the list during therapy, but I think it does.
ANOTHER EDIT: The experiment that Oliver mentioned... The experiment could be that he should go up to people (Benjamin) and test his theory that he is, quote, "the master of his own reality." This could be BEFORE everything else happened, like a prologue but near the end instead of at the beginning. Gosh, things really are getting terribly hard to keep track of, and even more confusing! But so, so interesting.
    YET ANOTHER EDIT:
I recognized this when I started watching, but not enough to comment on it. The show, the coffee brand, and the "Apple chargers" comment in the very beginning of this episode all came from Oliver's dream list in The Adventures of Benjamin and Oliver. I find this, again, confusing, but it is a very interesting detail that should not be left out.

For real though, your work with Cultish back in the day is what made me really decide to pursue acting in college. It was so cool to me how you were able to play all these different characters but keep each of them distinct by more than just costumes. The scene where Prime and Jasper swapped clothes and had a slo-mo walk was what did it. After that I actually had the opportunity to be in a play (digitally of course) and play three of the four characters. It was A Number by Caryl Churchill if you’re familiar. I’ve still got a lot of work to do to improve but just thought I’d let you know how inspiring you’ve been :) Please keep up the great work! It’s SO much fun to watch!

Thank you for clarifying that Benjamin isn't Oliver's brother because that was my first thought and then I was like, no that doesn't make any sense... and the twists just keep on coming! I'm so in awe of your ability to re-create moments you've already done in entirely new contexts with pin-point accuracy. How do you keep it all straight in your head so nothing gets lost for the audience?

    • @NicholasPodany8

Well Im incredibly impressed that I haven’t lost a lot of y’all. It’s clear in my head, but the translation from my dream of a million dollar budget, to what I have in my old childhood home (now quarantine bunker) makes me have to get more creative and sacrifice some stuff. I try to keep clarity, but having only one person limits some more distinct visual story telling, so I’m inCREDIBLY happy that everyone is watching and asking the right questions... I’m more impressed by y’all!!

This series has been the most chill-inducing, enthralling, and wholly entertaining experience I’ve had in a while, both in regards to the concepts of the episodes themselves and their execution. The music is spectacular, fitting each scene, moment, and episode perfectly; the writing is phenomenal, with bits of motif or easter egg candy for the careful watcher; and the acting and camerawork is positively seamless-so wonderfully done you don’t even notice it at times. Thank you, Nicholas; this was a joy.
Still confused as shit though can’t wait to see if a few of my theories play out haha
P.S. that “What else are memories but dreams themselves” quote haunts my every waking moment (in a good way)

so many thoughts, head full: the ending song is AMAZING, you need to submit this story to hbo or netflix or SOMETHING after wrapping it up on here, i kinda feel like oliver is gonna be some sort of anti-hero/villian at the end. something doesn't seem right. also: nicholas are you aware that this could get its own fandom with ships and fanfic???

    • @NicholasPodany8

@@NicholasPodany8 I'm writing a fan fiction! No ships though, it's mostly following what I know of the true storyline, but with the thought that Jasper and Quinn were twins in Jasper's reality, which has been fun to experiment with.
Also, if you want to check out my story, it's on the fanfiction website "Archive of Our Own," so...maybe...give it a read...if and when you have time?

WAIT AND WHAT WAS THAT WITH THE COFFEE??? That was used earlier with oliver too! He reacted bad at drinking it and reacted bad at the therapists office when the therapist mentioned the bad weather (probably the same when the accident happened) and drank his coffee! SO WHAT IS THAT MOTIF? WHAT CONNECTION DOES COFFEE HAVE WITH OLIVER??

    • @edakivanc8654
      @edakivanc8654 3 роки тому +10

ok i'm gonna use this as a little rant space: i fucking love the sound design between 5:40 and 7:40. The edited voice of the therapist bleeding between reality at the appointment and olivers dreamscape suggests that oliver starts to loose grip and the distinction between his dreams and his reality. maybe because of trauma maybe because he is so deep into searching for the people on his list or mixing different dreamscapes. letting go of the apple to pick up the notebook at 7:30 functions just like a symbol for letting go of control (the apple is used as a sign for the lucids) and replacing it with some sort of obsession or escapism- tell me that i am not crazy @Nicholas Podany

It was such a unique experience to see the videos come one at a time, think everything’s normal, expect nothing, until BAM! Suddenly it’s a whole show and I love it to bits!)
