A branchline train? That was a massive one! Used to be a Southern Railway branch that ran behind my house in the 60s and 70s: three Southern GP9s (hi-nose, of course) and never less than 100 cars and an orange Seaboard caboose. They didn't run more than 20 mph, but they rumbled the neighborhood.
@Eugene Stoner Wouldn't doubt it. It was a transfer track from Seaboard Hulsey Yard. A pair of switchers, also black and gold Southern, also worked the plants along that line in Atlanta. Central of Georgia ran some fine intrastate passenger trains and kept them up until the end. They came out of Atlanta Terminal Station.
@Eugene Stoner Thanks. I've always wanted to know about that line that came out of Hulsey, northbound, by the giant Sears building and connected with a small Southern yard in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. I figured I'd never be able to find this information. That section, busy as it was in the 60s, is obscure to most. And, you're right. It IS now part of the Rail Trail known as The Atlanta Beltline. Amtrak was also interested in this section of track, which was not up to Mainline standards.
@Eugene Stoner And Georgia Railroad was one of the last private passenger operators, running a mixed train from Atlanta, Camak, Social Circle, to Augusta. It had one tattered streamlined car tacked onto the daily mixed freight. Could be wrong, but I think this train didn't dump the passenger car until 1983.
Another interesting video. Enjoyable, relaxing and learned a lot about metal shavings and bed rumbling. You always find something to shoot in the scenery which enhances the final product. (I knew you were gonna zoom in on our neighbor. Your camera is too good not to have.)
Nice catch! I just caught that same consist except it was #448 leading and #5474, when I saw this I checked because I thought that maybe I had caught the same one

@Eugene Stoner Yes, that's the. Georgia Railroad down there. Lots of Seaboard Coast Line trains down there, too, at one time.
