Honestly, I don't believe anything Abby says except for one thing. Season 8 near the end of the season when she said "I never wanted Chloe to win, and she won all the time". Anything else I don't believe, because she's a notorious liar anyway.
On back to the barre, when Ed said abby handed the waiter a stack of credit cards and said "just keep trying them till they work" I LOST IT 😂😂 it's such an abby thing to do.

Honestly! It just felt so wrong to bring up. Kurt and Greg weren’t a part of the show and airing a family’s “dirty laundry” hurts the kids too. I can’t imagine how mortified Maddie and Mackenzie would’ve been. Her kids were her cash cows. Melissa was really good with money, so I have no reason to doubt she masterminded the money smuggling. She would say things that gave her away, such as, I could tell you things that you wouldn't believe, then she would shut up. She bragged that Abby was going to make her daughter's stars. She also had a laugh that was devilish. I think she also pretended to care about Abby's mother, but I don't think she did, it was only to get on Abby's good side for her daughter's. She was and is a user.
Easy to 'grow' now once your daughters became the successes you wanted to them to. She stomped on so many people and betrayed the mum's so many times. She's not a child. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Tbh I think that non of the moms are trustworthy. That includes Christy, Kelly and even Holly. They all have said some stuff about Melissa but than act all nice when she's around. And Melissa must know bout the things that have been said about her but ignores it. I think that we'll never fully know the truth about these women and I'm fine with that. Also why is it questionable that Melissa helped out some people at the ALDC? That seems like a kind thing to do. In figure skating I've met some fake nice moms as well but helping people out as far like Melissa did is something they would never do because they aren't getting enough out of it.

The saddest thing about all this with Melissa is that all she did was screw her kids over. Her kids never needed the favoritism or sneaky benefits to shine, Maddie’s consistent wins and advanced abilities started WAY before the show and her breakthrough opportunity with Sia had nothing to do with Abby. Kenzie grew even more after the show with her dancing, fame, and music from her OWN talent.

To be fair, Chloe was a beautiful dancer when the show started. From Abby’s mistreatment of her and the show framing Maddie to be better, she never got her chance to be noticed like Maddie did.

I think Melissa did everything possible to benefit her children but she never intentionally hurt other people. We’re they hurt by the actions? Yes, sometimes they were but that wasn’t the intention of the action. Whether it was right or wrong, she did what she thought was best for her two priorities in life.
It doesn't matter about intention, if your actions hurt someone then you need to take responsibility, it's childish to have the attitude of oh I didn't mean to so it's fine. Obviously you're going to prioritise your own children above other peoples, but you should care about others and not want other children to be hurt for the sake of your own children's success. . Also, it's success at what cost? It was teaching her children to do whatever you can and step on other people to get to the top, it's amazing they haven't turned into horrid people. And, they were both put in a toxic environment. She would also pretend that she was a team player, a kind person, a moral person and she wasn't, she only cared about Maddie and Mackenzie being famous. There are also many examples of her deliberately hurting other children like the whole taking privates away from others, not doing the music until last minute, snitching on Chloe, etc etc. She lies, she deceives but oh she was doing it for her children so it's okay

I honestly just feel bad for Melissa. It's clear she had extremely low self-esteem and had difficulties in her marriage and divorce, which led her to make irrational decisions to help her children and those around her. I sincerely hope she's doing much better now.
Since really getting into the bus and seeing some of what Abby cruelly said to Melissa about Maddie’s relationship with Abby when she first started I’ve come to strongly believe that Melissa developed an unhealthy relationship with her daughter’s dancing and subsequent success. Like it wasn’t just Abby being gross with them the entire family had a toxic attachment to that studio and I think there’s some sad truth to the dance ruined my marriage line from episode 1. Everything suggests she was mistreated and Maddie was affected and became passionate about dance during it and for close to a decade that just became their life. It’s just really sad and I’ll never not be glad at how she’s genuinely doing better now.
One of the things I respect about Melissa is that she apologized to her children, I only heard the hylands and Lukasiaks do this but every other mom maybe, maybe not. Their kids haven’t said.
We don’t know that for sure, but Maddie publicly said that Melissa apologized. I don’t think all of them did, but Melissa did and I’ll give her credit when its due.
That’s one of the things I respect about her too. She allowed some messed up things to happen to her kids, that’s true. But it says a lot that her kids still value her (especially Kenzie, who always speaks out about how Melissa was her #1 supporter) and that she’s apologized to Maddie.
Yeah that’s very admirable all things considered, I know all the moms have apologized to their children, we saw Christy and Holly apologize to their kids in the show and Kelly stated she’s apologized to Brooke.
It does seem this way. If Abby cared about portraying herself in a good & true light, she'd focus less on damage control and trying to talk badly of them, and instead focus on any positive or current developments. Abby chooses to milk any attention she can get that often centers around slanderous conversation, which IMO reflects very poorly of her character.

There are only two things in this video I’ll back Melissa on: - Getting private lessons for “free.” Not saying she should’ve taken them from others of course, that’s horrible, but she worked front desk so her payment probably went to “free” privates for her girls. Considering Abby’s financial state I can’t see her paying Melissa too well so her payment for working prob went to her girls and their dance education - Blaming production Maddie forgetting her dance. Isn’t it weird that SO many people forgot their dance this competition?? Even a disproportionate amount of non-Dance Moms kids forgot and Chloe forgot too but was able to improv. Maddie said in her book that she and Chloe learned their solos in the hotel and were kicked out early before they fully learned their dance. 100% a production issue
So many kids forgot their solo but none of the moms blamed production her kid messed up just like all them they wanted maddie to be perfect so they just needed someone to blame on why she messed up

Production kicked Chloe and Maddie out of solo rehearsals early so neither got to completely finish learning their routines. Producers put cameras really close to kid’s faces, which caused Maddie and lots of other kids to forget. It’s fair to call it out.
Not defending Melissa, but I feel that some of the things Christi and Kelly say have to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't think they outright lie, but they're extremely biased in some of their views and uneducated about certain situations. For example, they said that Melissa kept Maddie and Kenzie from having a relationship with their father, Kurt and how bad they felt for Kurt (and this was pretty recently too). When in reality Kurt neglected them, and Maddie was having to fill his place as the second parent when she was only 5 years old. Even if they didn't know this, they jumped to conclusions and made judgments with zero insight into what actually happened. They act like they know all the little private details about the Zieglers' lives, which annoys me because clearly there's a lot they don't know. There are certainly awful things that Melissa did and she is far from my favorite mom (I do prefer Christi and Kelly over her). My only point is that it frustrates me when people take Christi's and Kelly's words as gospel, and disregard accounts from everybody else.

Some of these detailed things I definitely agree with like Melissa sabotaging Chloe’s music and trying to disqualify her, but there are definitely things that sound more from perspective and “guessing” rather than actual detailing. Like when they said “I don’t think the cameras are the reason Maddie forgot” there’s literally evidence of multiple other dancers forgetting their dances that competition as well because of the cameras, and Maddie wrote in her book that she and Chloe both learned their solos in the hotel and were kicked out early (implied by production). So producers definitely had a lot of fault in Maddie forgetting. Chloe forgot too, but could improv her way through. Also, the whole “Melissa admits that Abby had Maddie practice with no music” sounds strange to me too. Melissa barely admitted getting extra privates but apparently she admitted to this?
Yes but on the other hand you could say how do we know the zieglers are telling the truth. Kurt was on the show in part of season 1. This was very rare as most dads we never see. He seemed concerned about his kids and melissa and abby did everything to get rid of him. Plus maddie and kenzie are only 1 year apart so saying maddie is a second parent seems like a lie. I think its just a case of a messy divorce.
@@Chelsea-nh4uj Maddie and Kenzie are almost 2 years apart and I'm not sure where I saw that when Maddie was 6 she was getting both of them ready in the morning because Kurt wouldn't get up (Melissa had a job that started really early and changed jobs when she found out that it was happening). The girls say that they don't have a relationship with Kurt and it was already that way by the time their parents were divorced. Kenzie has said that Kurt would occasionally get in touch with her and would do it for long enough that she would get her hopes up that it would become consistent and then he would stop doing it again and we are talking about calls, not even in person.
Some things they claim are wild but I don’t think it’s malicious atp I think they genuinely just have their point of view and it’s been so long they don’t care to find the actual truth, they just share their perception of the situations. Like some things they’re directly involved in I will believe but when they said things like that I don’t because it’s so against what even Maddie and Mackenzie say about it. My like “tier list” of believing goes: the girls>holly>Christi and Kelly/Jill>Melissa>other moms from the show>Abby like if the girls claim something completely different from the moms I’m going to believe them because they don’t have a reason to lie.

Everybody should know by now that the producers showed people what they wanted them to see. Kurt clearly made Maddie extremely nervous (understandably so), which is a red flag in itself. So of course Abby and Melissa were trying to get him to go. Crazy that you'd believe a reality show's narrative over the accounts of actual victims. And you could see Maddie's parentification clear as day on the show. She felt she had to lead the group despite being one of the youngest, and would always blame herself for group mistakes. This is shown in production notes from Season 1 (covered in a video by this channel) when an 8 year-old Maddie said it's her fault the group failed in the Make You Mine group dance, even though it was Nia who missed the steps (not hating on Nia at all by the way, mistakes happen). Maddie was over the top responsible for her age and blamed everything on herself. She felt responsible for everybody else and that everything depended on her being perfect all the time. Seems like a terrible case of parentification to me, on top of a messy divorce and a neglectful parent. I'm not hating on Christi or Kelly. I'm merely stating that they're speaking about things they don't have knowledge of. Do I think Melissa lies about many things? Yes. Do I think Maddie and Kenzie are lying about their traumatic childhood? Absolutely not, and it's gross to say so.
They would have production tell them different things to say (obviously they could refuse to say it) to stir up drama. Seeing as they would get told that they couldn't go home if they hadn't had enough fights that was an easy way to stir up controversy especially when Melissa had such a big reaction to them talking about her ring.

The other mums say that they all got exactly the same letter and as was mentioned in this video it had the letterhead on it of the law firm that all the mums used. Someone sent something, there has been speculation that Greg had it done but really who knows seeing as Melissa at times has had as flexible a truth as Abby.
It was real . Mackzboss actually made a video about that . MELISSA confirmed her boyfriend sent them those letters . Holly AND Christi confirmed that they received calls from their attorneys about a potential lawsuit .. it was real it’s just how it probably played out was manipulated .
Melissa made her and her kids’ bag. Say whatever you want, she had her priorities and made sure her kids were financially secure no matter where other chips fell.
Still disgusted with Melissa all these years cause no matter what she did she was still hurting someone with EVERY decision she made, just to benefit herself or her image/kids. The only thing that doesn’t really make sense is Christy and Kelly saying that Melissa would blame everything on the producers and use them as a scapegoat… but that’s literally what the whole cast does all the time. They all “blame” (rightly so) the producers for many things so I find it weird that they said that about Melissa when they all do it including themselves.
I feel like the reason why Melissa protected her kids from being on camera when they were upset was mainly because she was really close with Abby number one and number two if Christie’s right and Melissa did buy gifts for producers or get along with them, then logically she would’ve been able to get away with more stuff for her kids not saying that Melissa did anything wrong with trying to protect the kids one day. We’re at a very vulnerable state but it would’ve been nice for all the girls to have that.
I do think it's strange that Melissa has said herself she was sorry to her kids but also doesn't regret the show. Kelly got out because of the fight / lawsuit. Christie got out because of the eye comment , but still fulfilled her contract by coming back in season 7. Jess didn’t have the same contact as them and by that time she knew what she was signing up for . So it was easy for her to get out vs the OGs

Jess got out of hers because production hadn't filed their contracts correctly in California and Jess worked that out. After Jess got out they rectified that. I think Abby exaggerated production's involvement in the kiss dance bc she's recently been called out for it as well as other inappropriate behaviour (kissing Maddie, sexualising younger men/boys)
I can't say how much I agree with this - I never thought twice about Melissa and loved how she didn't argue. But rewatching as an adult, I cannot imagine an adult would behave this way. I think she's the only original mom who ever intentionally hurt other kids or wanted to. So now she's honestly my least favorite/trusted og mom. Chloe, a totally innocent tiny child, said she saw Melissa trying to disqualify her? And others have said Melissa in the audience was rude when there was no reason to be, and the "Chloe went to the movies" "This is Maddie's home! Unlike the other kids" is just fucking vile. It's twisting and if it was JUST to help maddie, sure, but she specifically puts DOWN the other kids - NOOO other mom did that (of the originals) and it's honestly awful.
Ok to just to counter some of what you said, the information about Chloe going to the movies and many other similar time where Melissa brought up things the kids did, was told to her by the producers, and therefor she had to bring it up, and this is the same about a lot of the info she said about the kids, secondly the other mums 100% did stuff to put other kids down, multiple of the original moms have been accused of and recorded saying some horrible things about their competitors dancing and specifically on the team Christi and Kelly said some horrid things about both Maddie and Kenzie throughout the show, I’m not saying Mellisa didn’t do things wrong at points at all but there was a lot of hypocrisy from the mums when getting mad at her for a lot of it

I've always seen how much of a liar Melissa was and how manipulative she was. But I always respected her and gave her credit for doing everything her kids wanted to do and ensuring her kids came first.
Melissa may not be totally innocent but I will never understand why she was bashed so much by the other moms whenever maddie was given surprise solos as if she was the one making those executive decisions, if my daughter was given a second solo or a last minute solo I would never take it away from her for the sake of another kid specially if she wants to do it or feels like she needs to do it for her teacher. I understand how frustrating it must be to be in the shoes of the other moms but I don’t think it was ever appropriate to be like “please Melissa take away your daughter’s solo or special part because my kid has less chances to win now” as it happened in season 1, it’s ridiculous.
the problem i have within all of this lies with kelly for me. her saying all this stuff about melissa but running to do a podcast with her and the other moms is so fishy to me. i have trouble believing all of them at this point.
I really want to like Christi and Kelly because I enjoyed them and wholeheartedly agreed with them about many things when I watched them as a young girl on the show. But the fact that they still can't keep Melissa, but especially Maddie and Mackenzie's names out of their mouths is really weird. Like, this all happened 9+ years ago. Why can't they just let things go? I understand wanting to clear their names about events they were involved in with Melissa that unfairly made them look bad, but to portray it as a negative thing that 6 year old Mackenzie got extra time to work on her dance, while Brooke and Paige were like 13 and 10, is just so weird. Kelly in particular has really been outing herself on this Back to the Barre podcast. Like how it was revealed in a previous episode of DM Uncovered that despite her fervent claims that she wanted to leave the show to protect her kids' mental health, she admitted that she actually would've been willing to stay if the producers had paid the Hylands the amount they originally promised. Overall, I never wanted to think of them as the jealous, catty people Melissa made them out to be. But it seems that they haven't really grown since the show, and listening to that podcast makes them harder and harder to like.
I understand this but they are not bad mouthing the girls. They are pointing out how Melissa’s connections hurt their children which they have every right to speak on. And even on their podcast they say, “this is no hate to Maddie or Kenzie or Kendall” because it’s not about the girls. They were just pawns used in this twister dance game.
They’re recapping how they felt during that time . They are still friends with Melissa, the moms have a group chat together. Not to mention Kelly is still on a podcast with Melissa so I’m sure there’s no hard feelings at this point .

@@N84Lyfe it’s all of them, idk what you don’t get but multiple things can be true at the same time…Christi would shit on Maddie, and I’m sure some of that was producer driven, there was a handful of times Mellisa actually said anything bad about other kids, and I’m sure some of those weren’t caused by the producers, you need to think critically about this show, with the power the producers could have with edited and a bias, and the hypocrisy different cast members had towards one another, things are easily manipulated to fit a certain narrative

EXACTLY. What can she (Abby) gain from talking about her money problems now? Nothing. She spent some time in jail, she was silent during the most crucial part of this situation - lawsuit. Melissa was helping Abby with bills, had an access to her documents, she knew some stuff for sure so why would she not do something sketchy too? And if she did, testifying against Abby would be a way to protect herself, not only her own and Maddie's money, but also their family's reputation. We know that she didnt talk with her daughters about money, even tho her daughter was earning it so it would be fair to include her in the discussion. My parents were struggling when i was little and they intorduced me to the topic so i knew they cant afford this toy or that shoes. Maybe she kept all the money stuff secret because there was something to hide and a child can a) speak about it accidentally b) if someone discovers the child has a knowledge, the child can also testify. i do believe that it was the producers faults that maddie forgot her in my heart solo. other kids forgot their solos that day too due to the jib operator being too close to their faces and the producers made abby only give one day to maddie to rehearse the in my heart solo. maddie herself said that the jib operator being too close to her face was one of the main reasons that she forgot.

I love Melissa but she was a lair and sneaky, everyone says that. Everyone. She is a good mom, I feel like the curtain/ bathroom thing wasn't always the best but apart from that she's a good mom. She raised two incredibly mature kids (maddie was the sweetest little thing), seems to get along work her new family and hey and the other moms get along nowadays. One thing to note, to this day despite being friendly with one another the moms still have different statements on certain issues.
Maddie was parentified from a very young age, some of it Melissa didn't know about as her job started early in the morning. Maddie has said that when she was 6 she was getting both of them ready in the morning (breakfast and dressed) as Kurt wouldn't get up. Melissa to her credit did change her job when she found out. That dynamic was already set though and both girls say that Maddie mothered Kenzie their whole childhood. Melissa when asked about favouring Maddie says that she actually spent more time on Kenzie as Maddie was so grown up and self sufficient so didn't need her as much. She didn't realise that it is an issue for Maddie to be like that from such a young age.
christi is the same at times even worse yet nobody talks about that the only difference is Melissa's antics got her kids to the top while christi's got whole abouslty nowhere which most of the time would cause a fight
I think it's time to face that we are not going to get the real story out of any of the adults from that time period. Reality shows are never reality, it's twisted reality. If you don't want your life story being manipulated, don't go on a reality TV show. It's really sucky that the children who are now adults have to defend or explain the real story of what happened to them as children. When it comes to the money accusations Abby is making against Melissa, I would take Melissa's word over Abby's. However, she was far from perfect. She was a major stage mom in a bad way. She would have done anything to get her kids famous. I do think she regrets some of that.
She was the only one that could testify about Abby's money problems since she had an access to her documents, she literally worked at the desk of the studio and helped abby with bills. If she was also involved, it would make a perfect sense to testify and get immunity, because at that time she had too much to lose if she had been also sentenced and charched, not only she could lose money but Maddies reputation would be in danger too. I know Abby is a horrible person and people tend to not believe her because of that, but she gains nothing talking about the money freud. She did end up in jail, now her words cant change anything.

I think Melissa was definitely part of the problem. The kids were the victims. It’s not anyones fault but Abby, Melissa, (the other parents too) and the producers. But I do believe people can grow and change and forgiveness is needed in order to heal from this
Abby is notorious for taking out her feelings about the mothers on the kids. I dont believe that it was production who made Maddie kiss a boy she didnt want to because they felt some way about Melissa.

If Christi & Kelly are agreeing with Abby and saying the same thing about Melissa it’s probably true I feel If people who hate and despise each other are saying the same thing about the same person there is for sure at least some truth. Unfortunately I do believe Melissa did something shady before and during dance moms. In the Dance moms unedited where she talked about the producer notes for the episode when she went to lunch with Cathy. Didn't Melissa randomly say she was worried about getting arrested. then there was just no more notes on it. Also I feel like that's part of the reason why Maddie and MacKenzie don't want to speak about Dance Moms. As adults themselves now they would kind of be put in a position to confirm their mom did shady illegal things or have to lie if she really did and that's not a great position to be put in. Especially when if true it clearly worked as Maddie is very successful now.If Melissa was as close to Abby for as long as she claims and in her words "always loyal to her" she at the very least saw some shady stuff.

You can't just dismiss everything Abby says and then believe everybody else, Christi and Kelly seem to be stretching the truth to suit their argument on their podcast as well. They've all got their own versions of the truth.

I actually never liked Melissa she was too much of a schmoozer and a sneak, and I didn’t like her clear favouritism of Maddie over McKenzie sometimes it felt like she’d get irritated at McKenzie for being tired and a kid. She’s also a user as much as I don’t like Abbey she was definitely only Buddy-buddy with her to get Maddie ahead and once Maddie was on top and they no longer needed dance moms she hung her up high and dry and has no issue with throwing people under the bus t save her own ass even when she was involved. Is she so fake I don’t believe everything Abbey is saying tho, I actually think they were both like partners in crime. I’m not surprised that the moms got paid more than the kids for legal reasons, screen time and storylines, also they are the ones literally paying for dance classes, costumes, travel etc so all the money goes back to their kids anyway so I ain’t worried about that. But I don’t get what Maddie’s talking about how is she providing for her family? They all got their own money? Not that I care she’s rich.
Bottom line: It was a heavily scripted TV show based around some amount of reality. With the long reach, heavy hand, & deep pockets of production, as well as the all-powerful magic of editing, production crafted & instigated scenarios that manipulated all parties involved to act & react exactly as they saw fit. *The one & only thing that could be trusted that came out of the show was the skill & talent of all of the little girls.* I think there's probably a grain of truth here & there, but the narrative of the show was so heavily narrated that it becomes impossible to ever know very much of the full & truthful story. Although I love all the core OG moms (Melissa, Christy, Kelly, Holly), the only mom's words I'd ever have 100% faith in would be Holly. Even during her more confrontational moments, she maintained such grace & poise. She was hands-down the best adult role model throughout the entire show, *in spite of* all of the production & editing manipulation. It's so easy for all of us to be hyper-critical of all of the moms & and Abby if we simply consume the show without much real thought. If one really stops to contemplate the actual reality of the overall scenario, how many of us could truly survive the experience & arise from the end unscathed or fairly portrayed? Production exploited anything & everything WE ALL share (no matter our background): our humanity. None of us are perfect in real life. None of us act & speak appropriately 100% of the time, regardless of the everyday situations that life presents. Sometimes, each of us gets something wrong or makes mistakes. Sometimes, each of us has a weak moment & we later reflect that we wish we could take back something we say or do. The only difference between us & the cast of this show is that we don't have a production crew following us around & recording our behaviors as we react to a narrative that is a mostly fabricated & heavily edited for the entire world to see & judge.
Melissa and even the other moms were crazy competitive moms from Pittsburg on a reality TV show. Once they left the show and ALDC, they became better people overtime. Abby the evil dance teacher, lived in the past.
that's so sad that Melissa did that to Chloe, dancing is competitive you have to compete. Chloe was beating Maddie because she was a great dancer too there was no need to sabotage a child for another.

The actions of production, Abby, and Melissa really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The episode in Season 1 where the talent scout comes and says in front of all the girls that he only wants to talk to Maddie...I can't imagine how horrible that made all the other kids feel. It felt like he was only there for Maddie to begin with, so idk why they made the other girls think he was there for all of them.
I think Melissa is guilty of everything Christi, Kelly, and most of the others have said about her. It does seem, however, that she has changed somewhat and now regrets at least some of what she has done.

@@chichi3183 that’s literally not true, idk if you watched the show or not but the amount of times that some of the mums, mainly Christi, talked shit on Maddie on interviews was Huge, there was even a time Kelly and Christi were shouting about Maddie being a liar and a bad friend in front of her because she told Chloe what she thought was the truth (they knew Abby had lied to Maddie and they didn’t care) and Christi literally forbade Chloe from being friends with Maddie and still hints at not liking them hanging out to this day because of abby/Melissa’s actions
even if the moms did know about melissa’s love life, affairs or not, it wasn’t right to talk about it on tv. but that’s just what i think.
Honestly! It just felt so wrong to bring up. Kurt and Greg weren’t a part of the show and airing a family’s “dirty laundry” hurts the kids too. I can’t imagine how mortified Maddie and Mackenzie would’ve been. Poor Maddie cried after Abby said “you don’t have a good home life,” I can’t imagine her reaction to Christi talking about her mom’s affair 💔

Melissa was really good with money, so I have no reason to doubt she masterminded the money smuggling. She would say things that gave her away, such as, I could tell you things that you wouldn't believe, then she would shut up. She bragged that Abby was going to make her daughter's stars. She also had a laugh that was devilish. I think she also pretended to care about Abby's mother, but I don't think she did, it was only to get on Abby's good side for her daughter's. She was and is a user.

I absolutely don’t think Melissa is a saint, but I find it hard to believe she would be stealing or embezzling money when she speaks so openly about her husbands financial security. Also why is it questionable that Melissa helped out some people at the ALDC? That seems like a kind thing to do. In figure skating I've met some fake nice moms as well but helping people out as far like Melissa did is something they would never do because they aren't getting enough out of it.

The saddest thing about all this with Melissa is that all she did was screw her kids over. Her kids never needed the favoritism or sneaky benefits to shine, Maddie’s consistent wins and advanced abilities started WAY before the show and her breakthrough opportunity with Sia had nothing to do with Abby. Kenzie grew even more after the show with her dancing, fame, and music from her OWN talent.

Don't trust Melissa, Holly once said she's a very smart woman who will be your friend up to a point before seeking her own self-interest and will do whatever it takes to look innocent when caught in her schemes.
I know which is why I don't trust any of the moms. Holly had an interview with Melissa recently and said that she can always count on Melissa and that she's always there for her family. I think Melissa did everything possible to benefit her children but she never intentionally hurt other people. We’re they hurt by the actions? Yes, sometimes they were but that wasn’t the intention of the action. Whether it was right or wrong, she did what she thought was best for her two priorities in life.

It doesn't matter about intention, if your actions hurt someone then you need to take responsibility, it's childish to have the attitude of oh I didn't mean to so it's fine. Obviously you're going to prioritise your own children above other peoples, but you should care about others and not want other children to be hurt for the sake of your own children's success. . Also, it's success at what cost? It was teaching her children to do whatever you can and step on other people to get to the top, it's amazing they haven't turned into horrid people. And, they were both put in a toxic environment. She would also pretend that she was a team player, a kind person, a moral person and she wasn't, she only cared about Maddie and Mackenzie being famous. I honestly just feel bad for Melissa. It's clear she had extremely low self-esteem and had difficulties in her marriage and divorce, which led her to make irrational decisions to help her children and those around her. I sincerely hope she's doing much better now.
Since really getting into the bus and seeing some of what Abby cruelly said to Melissa about Maddie’s relationship with Abby when she first started I’ve come to strongly believe that Melissa developed an unhealthy relationship with her daughter’s dancing and subsequent success. Like it wasn’t just Abby being gross with them the entire family had a toxic attachment to that studio and I think there’s some sad truth to the dance ruined my marriage line from episode 1. Everything suggests she was mistreated and Maddie was affected and became passionate about dance during it and for close to a decade that just became their life. It’s just really sad and I’ll never not be glad at how she’s genuinely doing better now.

That’s one of the things I respect about her too. She allowed some messed up things to happen to her kids, that’s true. But it says a lot that her kids still value her (especially Kenzie, who always speaks out about how Melissa was her #1 supporter) and that she’s apologized to Maddie.

There are only two things in this video I’ll back Melissa on:
- Getting private lessons for “free.” Not saying she should’ve taken them from others of course, that’s horrible, but she worked front desk so her payment probably went to “free” privates for her girls. Considering Abby’s financial state I can’t see her paying Melissa too well so her payment for working prob went to her girls and their dance education
- Blaming production Maddie forgetting her dance. Isn’t it weird that SO many people forgot their dance this competition?? Even a disproportionate amount of non-Dance Moms kids forgot and Chloe forgot too but was able to improv. Maddie said in her book that she and Chloe learned their solos in the hotel and were kicked out early before they fully learned their dance. 100% a production issue

@@Lemonade_12 If it’s a fault on production, then they SHOULD call out production. Production kicked Chloe and Maddie out of solo rehearsals early so neither got to completely finish learning their routines. Producers put cameras really close to kid’s faces, which caused Maddie and lots of other kids to forget. It’s fair to call it out.
Not defending Melissa, but I feel that some of the things Christi and Kelly say have to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't think they outright lie, but they're extremely biased in some of their views and uneducated about certain situations. For example, they said that Melissa kept Maddie and Kenzie from having a relationship with their father, Kurt and how bad they felt for Kurt (and this was pretty recently too). When in reality Kurt neglected them, and Maddie was having to fill his place as the second parent when she was only 5 years old. Even if they didn't know this, they jumped to conclusions and made judgments with zero insight into what actually happened. They act like they know all the little private details about the Zieglers' lives, which annoys me because clearly there's a lot they don't know. There are certainly awful things that Melissa did and she is far from my favorite mom (I do prefer Christi and Kelly over her). My only point is that it frustrates me when people take Christi's and Kelly's words as gospel, and disregard accounts from everybody else.

Some of these detailed things I definitely agree with like Melissa sabotaging Chloe’s music and trying to disqualify her, but there are definitely things that sound more from perspective and “guessing” rather than actual detailing. Like when they said “I don’t think the cameras are the reason Maddie forgot” there’s literally evidence of multiple other dancers forgetting their dances that competition as well because of the cameras, and Maddie wrote in her book that she and Chloe both learned their solos in the hotel and were kicked out early (implied by production). So producers definitely had a lot of fault in Maddie forgetting. Chloe forgot too, but could improv her way through.
Also, the whole “Melissa admits that Abby had Maddie practice with no music” sounds strange to me too. Melissa barely admitted getting extra privates but apparently she admitted to this?
Yes but on the other hand you could say how do we know the zieglers are telling the truth. Kurt was on the show in part of season 1. This was very rare as most dads we never see. He seemed concerned about his kids and melissa and abby did everything to get rid of him. Plus maddie and kenzie are only 1 year apart so saying maddie is a second parent seems like a lie. I think its just a case of a messy divorce.
@@Chelsea-nh4uj Maddie and Kenzie are almost 2 years apart and I'm not sure where I saw that when Maddie was 6 she was getting both of them ready in the morning because Kurt wouldn't get up (Melissa had a job that started really early and changed jobs when she found out that it was happening). The girls say that they don't have a relationship with Kurt and it was already that way by the time their parents were divorced. Kenzie has said that Kurt would occasionally get in touch with her and would do it for long enough that she would get her hopes up that it would become consistent and then he would stop doing it again and we are talking about calls, not even in person.
Some things they claim are wild but I don’t think it’s malicious atp I think they genuinely just have their point of view and it’s been so long they don’t care to find the actual truth, they just share their perception of the situations. Like some things they’re directly involved in I will believe but when they said things like that I don’t because it’s so against what even Maddie and Mackenzie say about it. My like “tier list” of believing goes: the girls>holly>Christi and Kelly/Jill>Melissa>other moms from the show>Abby like if the girls claim something completely different from the moms I’m going to believe them because they don’t have a reason to lie.

Everybody should know by now that the producers showed people what they wanted them to see. Kurt clearly made Maddie extremely nervous (understandably so), which is a red flag in itself. So of course Abby and Melissa were trying to get him to go. Crazy that you'd believe a reality show's narrative over the accounts of actual victims. And you could see Maddie's parentification clear as day on the show. She felt she had to lead the group despite being one of the youngest, and would always blame herself for group mistakes. This is shown in production notes from Season 1 (covered in a video by this channel) when an 8 year-old Maddie said it's her fault the group failed in the Make You Mine group dance, even though it was Nia who missed the steps (not hating on Nia at all by the way, mistakes happen). Maddie was over the top responsible for her age and blamed everything on herself. She felt responsible for everybody else and that everything depended on her being perfect all the time. Seems like a terrible case of parentification to me, on top of a messy divorce and a neglectful parent. I'm not hating on Christi or Kelly. I'm merely stating that they're speaking about things they don't have knowledge of. Do I think Melissa lies about many things? Yes. Do I think Maddie and Kenzie are lying about their traumatic childhood? Absolutely not, and it's gross to say so.

The other mums say that they all got exactly the same letter and as was mentioned in this video it had the letterhead on it of the law firm that all the mums used. Someone sent something, there has been speculation that Greg had it done but really who knows seeing as Melissa at times has had as flexible a truth as Abby.

I feel like the reason why Melissa protected her kids from being on camera when they were upset was mainly because she was really close with Abby number one and number two if Christie’s right and Melissa did buy gifts for producers or get along with them, then logically she would’ve been able to get away with more stuff for her kids not saying that Melissa did anything wrong with trying to protect the kids one day. We’re at a very vulnerable state but it would’ve been nice for all the girls to have that.
I do think it's strange that Melissa has said herself she was sorry to her kids but also doesn't regret the show. Also she mentioned how her and Jill found it hard to sleep which is crazy because they stayed in an environment they couldn't handle imagine how there children felt. Tbh I side eye EVERY mom on the show they always say it was there contracts but it was such a toxic environment as a mom wouldn't you do everything in your power to get your kids out of that and considering christi Kelly and jess did it couldn't of been that hard.
Kelly got out because of the fight / lawsuit. Christie got out because of the eye comment , but still fulfilled her contract by coming back in season 7. Jess didn’t have the same contact as them and by that time she knew what she was signing up for . So it was easy for her to get out vs the OGs

I can't say how much I agree with this - I never thought twice about Melissa and loved how she didn't argue. But rewatching as an adult, I cannot imagine an adult would behave this way. I think she's the only original mom who ever intentionally hurt other kids or wanted to. So now she's honestly my least favorite/trusted og mom. Chloe, a totally innocent tiny child, said she saw Melissa trying to disqualify her? And others have said Melissa in the audience was rude when there was no reason to be, and the "Chloe went to the movies" "This is Maddie's home! Unlike the other kids" is just fucking vile. It's twisting and if it was JUST to help maddie, sure, but she specifically puts DOWN the other kids - NOOO other mom did that (of the originals) and it's honestly awful.
Ok to just to counter some of what you said, the information about Chloe going to the movies and many other similar time where Melissa brought up things the kids did, was told to her by the producers, and therefor she had to bring it up, and this is the same about a lot of the info she said about the kids, secondly the other mums 100% did stuff to put other kids down, multiple of the original moms have been accused of and recorded saying some horrible things about their competitors dancing and specifically on the team Christi and Kelly said some horrid things about both Maddie and Kenzie throughout the show, I’m not saying Mellisa didn’t do things wrong at points at all but there was a lot of hypocrisy from the mums when getting mad at her for a lot of it

I've always seen how much of a liar Melissa was and how manipulative she was. But I always respected her and gave her credit for doing everything her kids wanted to do and ensuring her kids came first.
Melissa may not be totally innocent but I will never understand why she was bashed so much by the other moms whenever maddie was given surprise solos as if she was the one making those executive decisions, if my daughter was given a second solo or a last minute solo I would never take it away from her for the sake of another kid specially if she wants to do it or feels like she needs to do it for her teacher. I really want to like Christi and Kelly because I enjoyed them and wholeheartedly agreed with them about many things when I watched them as a young girl on the show. But the fact that they still can't keep Melissa, but especially Maddie and Mackenzie's names out of their mouths is really weird. Like, this all happened 9+ years ago. Why can't they just let things go? I understand wanting to clear their names about events they were involved in with Melissa that unfairly made them look bad, but to portray it as a negative thing that 6 year old Mackenzie got extra time to work on her dance, while Brooke and Paige were like 13 and 10, is just so weird. Kelly in particular has really been outing herself on this Back to the Barre podcast. Like how it was revealed in a previous episode of DM Uncovered that despite her fervent claims that she wanted to leave the show to protect her kids' mental health, she admitted that she actually would've been willing to stay if the producers had paid the Hylands the amount they originally promised. Overall, I never wanted to think of them as the jealous, catty people Melissa made them out to be. But it seems that they haven't really grown since the show, and listening to that podcast makes them harder and harder to like.
I understand this but they are not bad mouthing the girls. They are pointing out how Melissa’s connections hurt their children which they have every right to speak on. And even on their podcast they say, “this is no hate to Maddie or Kenzie or Kendall” because it’s not about the girls. They were just pawns used in this twister dance game.

EXACTLY. What can she (Abby) gain from talking about her money problems now? Nothing. She spent some time in jail, she was silent during the most crucial part of this situation - lawsuit. Melissa was helping Abby with bills, had an access to her documents, she knew some stuff for sure so why would she not do something sketchy too? And if she did, testifying against Abby would be a way to protect herself, not only her own and Maddie's money, but also their family's reputation. We know that she didnt talk with her daughters about money, even tho her daughter was earning it so it would be fair to include her in the discussion. My parents were struggling when i was little and they intorduced me to the topic so i knew they cant afford this toy or that shoes. i do believe that it was the producers faults that maddie forgot her in my heart solo. other kids forgot their solos that day too due to the jib operator being too close to their faces and the producers made abby only give one day to maddie to rehearse the in my heart solo. maddie herself said that the jib operator being too close to her face was one of the main reasons that she forgot.

I love Melissa but she was a lair and sneaky, everyone says that. Everyone. She is a good mom, I feel like the curtain/ bathroom thing wasn't always the best but apart from that she's a good mom. She raised two incredibly mature kids (maddie was the sweetest little thing), seems to get along work her new family and hey and the other moms get along nowadays.
One thing to note, to this day despite being friendly with one another the moms still have different statements on certain issues.
Kids or young adults that are mature past their years are usually like that because they had to raise themselves in their childhoods
Maddie was parentified from a very young age, some of it Melissa didn't know about as her job started early in the morning. Maddie has said that when she was 6 she was getting both of them ready in the morning (breakfast and dressed) as Kurt wouldn't get up. Melissa to her credit did change her job when she found out. That dynamic was already set though and both girls say that Maddie mothered Kenzie their whole childhood.
Melissa when asked about favouring Maddie says that she actually spent more time on Kenzie as Maddie was so grown up and self sufficient so didn't need her as much. She didn't realise that it is an issue for Maddie to be like that from such a young age.
christi is the same at times even worse yet nobody talks about that the only difference is Melissa's antics got her kids to the top while christi's got whole abouslty nowhere which most of the time would cause a fight
I think it's time to face that we are not going to get the real story out of any of the adults from that time period. Reality shows are never reality, it's twisted reality. If you don't want your life story being manipulated, don't go on a reality TV show. It's really sucky that the children who are now adults have to defend or explain the real story of what happened to them as children. Not a good way to spend your childhood or starting out your adulthood.

When it comes to the money accusations Abby is making against Melissa, I would take Melissa's word over Abby's. However, she was far from perfect. She was a major stage mom in a bad way. She would have done anything to get her kids famous. I do think she regrets some of that.

Unfortunately I do believe Melissa did something shady before and during dance moms. In the Dance moms unedited where she talked about the producer notes for the episode when she went to lunch with Cathy. Didn't Melissa randomly say she was worried about getting arrested. then there was just no more notes on it. Also I feel like that's part of the reason why Maddie and MacKenzie don't want to speak about Dance Moms. As adults themselves now they would kind of be put in a position to confirm their mom did shady illegal things or have to lie if she really did and that's not a great position to be put in. Especially when if true it clearly worked as Maddie is very successful now.If Melissa was as close to Abby for as long as she claims and in her words "always loyal to her" she at the very least saw some shady stuff.

When Melissa said trophies and crown are not important on competitive dance was recent and she has changed. Melissa entering Maddie for a title is just wrong there is no it’s and or buts that should have never been done. Melissa taking judges out to eat we’ve seen it happen when the lux video was being made I seriously don’t understand why she did this because the only reason Lux was even heard of was because of the show maybe she thought lux would be some famous pop star but miss girl only released one song 🤷♀️.
Abby and Melissa always blaming producers they just needed to except that Maddie is human and makes mistakes. The recording of Mackenzie is not at all Melissa fault she fell for a trap thinking it was Mackenzie.

I mean Kenz was the youngest but I mean all girls needed more than two days. Being there when her kids were interviewed is actually quite smart. What is not fair about keeping your kids emotional moments privet more moms should have done the same. And facts Melissa would also handle her kids emotions bad a lot of we are being honest.

You can't just dismiss everything Abby says and then believe everybody else, Christi and Kelly seem to be stretching the truth to suit their argument on their podcast as well. They've all got their own versions of the truth.

One thing that bothers me is how they say so certainly how Maddie forgot her dance for another reason like a fact when they don’t know for sure and also how sure they that Maddie practiced her solo without music.
@@Channel24377it also bothers me too because what are they talking about when they say “she practiced without her music”?? i used to dance and that would be one of the first things to do was to practice without the music, THEN use the music to make sure i got the counts right. even if maddie did practice without the music what difference would it make? i’m so lost
@@-valmetal- exactly cause if Paige had forgotten her dance when her music skipped Kelly would be furious and say the same thing Melissa said and but Maddie was so prepared cause she took it more seriously and it was to sus for them to handle.
I actually never liked Melissa she was too much of a schmoozer and a sneak, and I didn’t like her clear favouritism of Maddie over McKenzie sometimes it felt like she’d get irritated at McKenzie for being tired and a kid. She’s also a user as much as I don’t like Abbey she was definitely only Buddy-buddy with her to get Maddie ahead and once Maddie was on top and they no longer needed dance moms she hung her up high and dry and has no issue with throwing people under the bus t save her own ass even when she was involved. Is she so fake
I don’t believe everything Abbey is saying tho, I actually think they were both like partners in crime.
I’m not surprised that the moms got paid more than the kids for legal reasons, screen time and storylines, also they are the ones literally paying for dance classes, costumes, travel etc so all the money goes back to their kids anyway so I ain’t worried about that.
But I don’t get what Maddie’s talking about how is she providing for her family? They all got their own money? Not that I care she’s rich.
Bottom line: It was a heavily scripted TV show based around some amount of reality. With the long reach, heavy hand, & deep pockets of production, as well as the all-powerful magic of editing, production crafted & instigated scenarios that manipulated all parties involved to act & react exactly as they saw fit. *The one & only thing that could be trusted that came out of the show was the skill & talent of all of the little girls.*
I think there's probably a grain of truth here & there, but the narrative of the show was so heavily narrated that it becomes impossible to ever know very much of the full & truthful story. Although I love all the core OG moms (Melissa, Christy, Kelly, Holly), the only mom's words I'd ever have 100% faith in would be Holly. Even during her more confrontational moments, she maintained such grace & poise. She was hands-down the best adult role model throughout the entire show, *in spite of* all of the production & editing manipulation.
It's so easy for all of us to be hyper-critical of all of the moms & and Abby if we simply consume the show without much real thought. If one really stops to contemplate the actual reality of the overall scenario, how many of us could truly survive the experience & arise from the end unscathed or fairly portrayed? Production exploited anything & everything WE ALL share (no matter our background): our humanity.
None of us are perfect in real life.
None of us act & speak appropriately 100% of the time, regardless of the everyday situations that life presents.
Sometimes, each of us gets something wrong or makes mistakes.
Sometimes, each of us has a weak moment & we later reflect that we wish we could take back something we say or do.
The only difference between us & the cast of this show is that we don't have a production crew following us around & recording our behaviors as we react to a narrative that is a mostly fabricated & heavily edited for the entire world to see & judge.

Melissa and even the other moms were crazy competitive moms from Pittsburg on a reality TV show. Once they left the show and ALDC, they became better people overtime. Abby the evil dance teacher, lived in the past.
that's so sad that Melissa did that to Chloe, dancing is competitive you have to compete. Chloe was beating Maddie because she was a great dancer too there was no need to sabotage a child for another.
Melissa should have been going to jail also for all the underhanded things that she was doing.

The actions of production, Abby, and Melissa really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The episode in Season 1 where the talent scout comes and says in front of all the girls that he only wants to talk to Maddie...I can't imagine how horrible that made all the other kids feel. It felt like he was only there for Maddie to begin with, so idk why they made the other girls think he was there for all of them.
Melissa is an opportunes she definitely had an affair cause her boss was richer than her ex husband...

I always felt Melissa was shady, not genuine, not kind.
I think Melissa is guilty of everything Christi, Kelly, and most of the others have said about her. It does seem, however, that she has changed somewhat and now regrets at least some of what she has done.
Melissa did have an affair!! Everyone in the area knew. Ask Greg’s kids. There’s a reason why they have NOTHING to do with Melissa Maddie or Mackenzie
