    is walsingham (and dudley!) the only members of the privy council that we are required to know? eg do we have to know about william cecil? thanks for the videos your playlists are probably going to carry me through tomorrow!!

    I’ve seen a question on 2 features of William Cecil’s spy network - what importance does he have/what would you say for it? Thank you for the video btw!

    • @TheHistoryTeacherUK
      @TheHistoryTeacherUK  Місяць тому +1

      Happy to help. So the two features question you just need to say two things about it. E.g one thing might be, he employed catholic priests to inform on rich landowners. You wouldn't get an importance question for Elizabeth except as a 16m then you just need to say he was responsible for catching the babbington plotters . I hope that helps

    When asking for two features, wdym by that? Like is it reasons, consequences, causes?

    • @TheHistoryTeacherUK
      @TheHistoryTeacherUK  Рік тому

      Literally a thing about it, so for example a feature of the spy network would be most of the spies were not paid.

    What do u mean the priests exchanged information for a pardon? I’m confused 1:20

    • @TheHistoryTeacherUK
      @TheHistoryTeacherUK  Рік тому +3

      Being a Catholic priest was illegal in Elizabeth's England. So if a priest was caught he could avoid punishment if he grassed up everyone he knew.

    Why was it bad if people had sympathy for those who were executed? why did it stop Francis executing people? 2:30

      Because governments need the agreement of the people. If everyone in the country got angry at the same time and started rioting there would be nothing the authorities could do because there are more people than authorities. This is still true today. So even authoritarian governments have to try to keep the majority of the people from protesting.
