Hi folks I have a TCL Roku 32s321 32" Smart TV.
It only connects to the internet for streaming, etc. via WiFi Connection. There is NO ETHERNET port on the back of the TV to connect an Ethernet cable.
While WiFi is okay it is SLOWER than Ethernet. I decided to use the USB PORT with a Ethernet adapter to see if it would generate a WIRED connection instead of a WiFi connection.
The video is the results. Will this work on YOUR TV? Maybe, maybe not but it did work on mine.
The TWO most IMPORTANT items are:
1. Turn your USB Port to ON so the TV will recognize any USB item plugged in to it.
2. RESET your internet connection VIA SETTINGS/SYSTEM/ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS/NETWORK CONNECTION RESET
Doing that restarted the TV and with the adapter and cables PLUGGED in when it reset allowed it to pick up the USB wired connection.
The connection to the net is now about 1/3 FASTER than prior ....

This worked perfectly on my sister's TCL TV. Slightly different model than what you showed.
I used a MoCA adapter from my coax cable outlet and ran the network cable from the MoCA adapter to the USB adapter in the TV.
Plugged it in the TV, turned USB Media to auto-launch, then reset network connection. Exactly as you showed. Worked like a charm!
Anyone that doesn't have the router near the TV, please research MoCA to get your network into rooms that already have coax cable wire run to it! Game changer!
Thanks for the additional help ...
Does it give you any issues when you restart your TV??
@@marcosramos4596 None.
IT WORKS! YAY! I have Roku TV model FW32R19F and I bought this exact same USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter from Plugable -- and followed your instructions to success -- so no more unstable Wifi needed.
The fun thing is that user manuals for both Roku TVs 32S321 and FW32R19F both say the same thing: "Note: The TV supports only its internal wireless network adapter-it does not support the use of a USB network adapter".
Turns out the manual says B.S. -- it works!
Thank you !!!!! :)
Yeah isn't it funny how they don't put THAT in the manual ... It's just crazy ... Glad I could help ... WiFi can be a real pain .... If for some reason you boot the TV and the wired connection isn't there just RESET your network connection from your system menu and it'll come back.
@@FDNY8231 I read somewhere that higher-end Roku TV models (e.g. 4K HD) actually have an Ethernet port... so my theory is that many (if not all) their TV models use the same firmware that has the functionality -- so even Roku TVs without an Ethernet port actually have support for one :)
I did this as well and it works, However , when I turn the TV off for awhile, then turn it back on , it says No internet connection..so I have to go thru the same setup as before ,which gets old. Hmmmmm
Any suggestions? Thx
@@Hammertime57 hello: unfortunately i have not found any other way... i think they expect the tv to only save its network connection configuration when used with wifi, not ethernet... so as far as i know there is no other way then do a "reset connection" after the tv is turned off and back on.
@Hammertime57A Software Update from TCL should fix this problem right away!
Holy Cow! You ARE THE MAN!!! Thank You!! I almost spent $70 on hdmi connectors, adapters, and extenders to try and do this. Thank You!!
You are VERY welcome ... Glad I could help!
This does work. Even using a USB 4 ports Hub at 2.0 supports 40 mps to connect your Cat6e modem cable. Follow his instructions to change settings to wired and the connection now indicates "wired" confection, rather than "wireless" connection. We'll see how it works long term after turning the TV off and resuming Prime Viewing the next night.
For some reason, Prime video would constantly and consistently disconnect from the wireless after just a few minutes of play, so that I would have to reload the Prime Video. Only Prime Video would disconnect, not UA-cam. For a service that costs $16/month, that is unacceptable and apparently, it is a long standing problem with Prime Video requiring regular clearing of caches by unplugging the TV for one minute to prevent the problem of disconnect from wireless.
Thank You for your comments ... Glad it worked for you, and hopefully will continue to ... I have found if you set the settings for the TV to SLEEP (just turn off screen) instead of powering off it will remain wired connected. This does NOT work for all TV's but most. Good Luck!
@@FDNY8231 Thanks that is a good tip--turning it to sleep rather than shut down,
As much as this worked, when the TV is turned off, it disconnects from the internet connection and has to be reconnected. No big deal and better than having your video in need of reloading ....
Instead of turning the TV off, which will disconnect from ethernet, simply go to the home page and after a minute or so, it will close down automatically, and when you press the start button, it will still be connected to the ethernet. TV does not use that much energy, unlike a tube TV which costs more to operate.
This was amazingly helpful - Hisense did not know what to do and said I wouldn't be able to use an adapter.
Very glad it worked for you ....
Thanks man. I got the adapter, wired it all up but couldn't figure out how to set it up as a wired connection. You answered it! Thank you

Thank you for the help I got a TCL Roku Smart TV with Roku built-in wasn't happy with Wi-Fi had a USB Amazon basic internet adapter laying around watch your video and got it up and running in no time thank you for the help
Glad I could help out.
That’s awesome! I changed my kids tv and not Ethernet after I ran hardwire through the attic for a weak signal
Glad to help out!
Thanks buddy, very helpful, I couldn’t stand the lag on wifi

My daughter jus got this same or similar tv! U answered a major head scratcher! Thank U so much!
Glad I could help! Check the other comments below for any other issues other folks had/have, and solutions if posted.
Oh my..you are the man (I stole that from someone else). About $10 for the adaptor and your instructions and my wife has lost the rotating circles on her wireless connected Roku TV. And indeed, The Roku TV says "wired connection." Okay, who's smarter? You , or Mr. Roku? Thanks.
So glad it worked for you and the missus ... 👍👍
Oh, oh, won't return to wired after I turned it off for a period of time. I used a 3.0 USB adaptor I use for my laptop. Will try a 2.O USB and standby tomorrow to see if that works.
@@birdmojophotographerso did it work?? The restarting issue will be a problem for me. TCL should be able to fix this with a software update!!!
I am so thankful you did this video. You are a blessing. It worked!
You are welcome ... Glad it worked!
Thank you right on! I had bought the adaptor but got stuck until I found your video. I've been hardwiring my android ultra 21 for awhile now. The ping difference is 29 with 105 without. Download 105 with 57 without. So tv works better as well.

Thanks this is just what I was looking for and you made it simple Thanks a lot appreciate it good job

Glad it helped
Thanks for the tip! 👍
No problem 👍
Thank you! You saved me from buying a new TV
Thank You ... I'm glad it worked for you.
This works on a HiSense Roku TV, too. Used a Startech USB 3.0 Gig ethernet adapter. I can now see 200Mbps+ from my Plex server instead of having to use choppy WiFi.
Thank you .... Good to know ... I hate choppy WiFi
Awesome thank you, it worked immediately 👍🏾
You're welcome!
You’re awesome! Thank you!
Thank You!
Thanks very helpful video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff, Thank you
You bet!
I added the Roku remote app to my phone. I can now click the microphone button in the app and say "turn off Roku". This doesn't seem to be a complete power off but the Roku TV does go black and that also puts my home theater receiver to sleep via HDMI (ARC - CEC).
When I use the microphone to say "turn on Roku" the settings for my ethernet adapter are remembered . The Roku TV starts and shows "Live TV" which is where i have it set.
I've also added the Roku skill to the Amazon Alexa app on my phone and Amazon Echo Show device. Now saying "Alexa, turn off Roku" has the same results as using the Roku app. Likewise, "Alexa, turn on Roku" starts the TV with ethernet adapter enabled and "Live TV" playing.
In any healthy relationship communication is paramount. Apparently this is true in my relationship with my Roku TV since it prefers when I speak to it as opposed to pushing it's buttons.
I owe it all to FDNY8231 who got the party started.

Nice video! I was hoping to find a solution for a spotty wifi connection. I'll have see if this works on mine too!
Good Luck my friend. Thanks for the comments. Please be advised this does not always work for every TV ...
big help bro
Glad I could help
Good video I’ve been wanting to try this!
Thanks ...
This worked, but I tried 2 different USB Ethernet adapters. A cheap Amazon one did not work but the trend net adapter worked and was a few dollars cheaper than the plugable adapter.
Seems like some of them can be tricky, and may or may not work .... I got a second one made by StarTech part# USB31000NDS, and THAT one really works great and is fast too
Did you have any issues after you restarted the TV?
Your my hero
Thank You!
👍 Thanks...
You're Welcome
Great video. Does it work on the old tv models too? ( my tv is 10years old)
I'm not certain, but try and see ... It doesn't work with ALL models, but can't hurt to try ... Good Luck!
Good stuff! Any idea if this would work with a Hisense Roku TV?
If it has a USB port and no Ethernet port then I would say it should work. Can't hurt to try it!
@@FDNY8231 Thank you!
I have a TCL Roku 32S3700. I bought the adapter you recommended and followed your steps and still did not get a connection. Both lights on the adapter are on but it's not connecting internet to the tv, any ideas?
Go into TV settings and network settings and RESET the network connection. The connection should them be visible. Be advise this MAY be required each time you power the TV. Good Luck!
Did you have to plug the other end of the ethernet cable into a laptop? Will that work as well?
No it's plugged into a router ... I don't think a laptop would work.
Hello! I have a tv like yours, but model 32S331, but when I try to connect the way you do, with all the steps and everything, even though my adapter's colors are flashing like yours, and I've reset it, nothing happens. The only difference is I'm in a dorm room and trying to connect to the Ethernet via a port in the wall for it , not an actual router. Like I said though, the adapter lights up signaling that data IS being transferred:(
Hopefully the reset you're talking about is the NETWORK settings. Some models of these TV's it just doesn't work on. That could also be the case. Try connecting a laptop or pc to your connection and see if you move/have data. If you do then it's not the connection. You can also try a Startech USB31000NDS They're not to expensive and also work after a network reset.
RIght my 32s331 doesn't work, I need a 32s321 I think..
Thank you for your video. My problem is every time I turn off my tv and turn it back on I have to do all the steps again. Is there a fix for this?
In the settings if you set the TV to go into standby mode IE: Only the screen goes off, but everything else runs in the background then the connection will stay active.
I have a Roku Stick model 3600X wireless - would it work if I use the same steps that you mentioned in your video? because I look at the System Settings at my Roku and I don't have the option for USB Media, I have the Audio option. So I am wondering if I can use the Audio option?
I'm gonna say it probably won't work. If you have a USB port on the TV you can try it, BUT the stick would go in there (USB) if I'm not mistaken so you'd have no place to plug in the ethernet/USB.
@@FDNY8231 Thank you so much for your response, much appreciated. So, you are right it didn't work. Do you know if it's any way to wire my Roku Stick 3600X wireless to a wired Ethernet cable? and What kind of gadget I would need for that?
Will this work with just a router or do you need a cable modem as well?
You need the cable modem in order to connect to the internet. If your router connects to the internet without a cable modem then you'll be fine with just a router
Can you do this with just a router alone or do you need a modem as well?
I connected as you see in the video to a WiFi router, BUT that router is in turn connected to a cable modem. You have to have the internet coming inbound to the router get this done. Good Luck my friend.
Not working with the 32s331, I think I need the 32s321,, right?
That maybe be possible ... I do know this method may not work on some models.
I'm going to assume since the connection speed was only 77 that while you used a usb 2.0 cable, your tv was not 2.0. Which is what I was seeking. FWIW I see elsewhere that if you have an actual 2.0 input, the speed is well over 100 (which apparently the ethernet ports are often capped at). If I'm wrong here, let me know.
I know my internet speed from my router(ISP) is 300MBPS, but what was going through the line I couldn't tell you. I upgraded to a USB 3.0 adapter and the speeds are great. Haven't tested them though.
I have a TCL 40" and i am trying to connect my wireless range extender to the TV using an ethernet cable but it is not connecting, but i am able to use my extender for my smartphone
Unfortunately this does not work for all TV's. I would say try a direct connection (if possible) to the ROUTER. Range extenders are a glorified WiFi port that connects to the router via WiFi. You're going to need that full connection to the router to get this to work I believe.
@FDNY8231 thanks for the advice much appreciated
Can you use a Wi-Fi router that has a modem in it as well
Yes you can
Thank you, and I have a question. I have a Panasonic plasma TV. It does not have a USB port or a network. My a question,
Is there a network adapter to work on?
Sorry but If you don't have a USB port then this will not work for you.
@@FDNY8231 Indeed, I do not have a USB output on the TV, I only have 4 VA outputs, and I also have an antenna pickup output, 2 HDMI, and an audio port.
Can you use the adapter with Vizio 32" smart TV?
It doesn't work with all TV's, but since it's not that expensive it probably wouldn't hurt to try.
did anyone else have the usb media option not show up? I need the wired connection to use my tv as I am in college dorms. Does anyone know why it won’t show?
I do know this does not work for some TV's. I would say check and make sure you are following the instructions in the video. Not much I can tell you beyond that unless someone else can chime in.
Did everything like in the video, but mine doesn't want to connect. I have a 32S325 model.
After doing the video instructions sometimes RESETTING the network settings will get it working. Try that! It may be possible that this may NOT work for your TV.
This works great, but at times, the wired connection goes away the next morning and it says wireless again. And all i did was turn off the tv before bed and when i wake up the wired connection goes away and it says wirelss when i investigage after i get a no internet connection message the next morning. any ideas?
In some cases you'll have to ADD the connection each time you power the TV. The ONLY way I have found to get around this is to set your power settings on the TV to STANDBY MODE. Doing this will TURN OFF the display but everything else runs in the background so your wired connection is not lost. Be advised though this uses more power than that standard power mode.
@@FDNY8231 thanks so much!! I will investigate the costs to see how to go. Easy for me, not so much if I tell the mrs about this!!! :)
Hi. Great video, I was so hopeful, but it didn't work. Maybe you help..From the other comments, does the kind of adapter matter? I bought an Insignia USB 3.0 To Internet Adapter from Best Buy. Packaging says for Laptops & Desktops. I told salesperson, it was for my TV. Please advise. Thanks!
"I" believe that any usb adapter you use SHOULD work. The only difference is usually the speed of data transfer. It IS possible that it may NOT work on your TV. From what I'm told some Roku TV's are not compatible with the backwards usb we are doing. If after you hook it up and power on you find it not working try going to Settings/system settings, and RESET your network connection. That's how I got mine to work initially. Good luck!
Thank you, I tried a 2.0 adapter instead (same Unplugable brand as in video) as my cousin, suggested, and I am "wired" connected. However, it seems my Mbps didn't increased but lowered?! Apps that were buffering aren't and the ones that weren't are now buffering! Go figure. I just don't know. Ugh technology!
Wow your place is as cluttered as mine is. Somebody gets me.....
I don't call it cluttered, I call it lived in .... Oh and I know where everything is, and spring IS coming ... :)
What brand router did you use to make this wired?
Plugable USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter .. The actual router won't really matter ...
i did what you showed and it worked on my onn roku tv but every time i turn off my tv i have to reset the network again when i turn it back on
up right up right up right down right ok
also now will not connect to wireless
I have found if you set the SETTINGS for the TV to SLEEP (IE: just to turn off screen, and leaves everything else powered in the background) instead of powering off it will remain wired connected. This does NOT work for all TV's but most. You may not get back to wireless unless you DQ the rigging's and restart the TV. Good Luck!
Can you use a 3.0 instead of 2.0?
Yes ... I did!
Everything worked fine with one exception: whenever I turn the TV off, I have to reset the connection every time I turn it back on. USB port is set for auto launch "on", but it still won't resume the internet connection. I have tried different options in the Power On setting, "Home screen" or "Last viewed" without success. Anyone have this problem as well? Any solutions?
What I did was I went into the TV settings and set the TV to go into standby mode. In that mode the TV never turns off so the connection stays active. The screen on the TV would go dark, but it won't actually turn off. Caution: More energy is used in this mode. Good Luck!
My TCL TV does have an Ethernet port but it is still no faster than my wifi...turns out the network card inside the tv caps out at 100mbps so this adapter im told will also fix this issue to get the available speeds from your router...im buying one now to try it myself
Good luck! Not sure if it will work. I think most streaming services aren't over 100mbps anyway, but it doesn't hurt to try. I hope it works for you.
@@FDNY8231 yeah hopefully it does,I watched a video this morning that gave me the idea so we'll see,I ordered the USB to Ethernet adapter today...it supports up to 1 gigabit internet speeds and the internal one inside the TV only supports up to 100 Mbps speeds because it's older technology because the TV is probably more than 5 years old at this point...it worked on the guys TV on the video ,he demonstrated the speed tests so it should work....take care my friend!

@@FDNY8231 thank you sir
I’m trying to plug my Ethernet in but one end is plugged in the Wi-Fi box and the other I don’t know where to plug it I can’t find it
If you can't find a USB port then your TV may not be capable of doing what's in the video. Some TV's aren't!
@@FDNY8231 thanks
It does not stay connected after the TV is turned off when you turn back on it will say Not Connected and have to go back through Settings and advance settings to Reset Network Connection to get it to restart as wired. So not quick easy fix if you have to do this everytime you turn on the TV
What I did was set the TV in setting's to not turn off but turn the SCREEN off after say 15 minutes, and it will stay connected because the TV never really shuts off. This is the only downside to using the adapter on a TV that was NOT designed for it.
I believe you meant to say "Thanks for the free informational video" ...
Jesus talk about ungrateful and of course it was something you were doing wrong and not him
I wonder if a wifi6 USB adapter would work...
I do not know but you could always try and see
Thanks for sharing but Did not work on a Roku 5121X TCL 40FS3750
Sorry it didn't work. Have you tried resetting your network connection after hooking everything up?
@@FDNY8231 I did delete/reset the network, rebooted everything s a few times. I Also tried two different adapters, usb-2 and a usb-3.
Interesting - the only problem I know about is related to the model I gave my girlfriend; it's a model 40S355 and only has one USB port. That's a problem since there is a 64 GB flash drive that already occupies that single port that is used to pause/buffer LIVE OTA television, not streaming. The Wi-Fi antenna on my unit is terrible - constantly losing connectivity to a router that is no more than 35 feet away, if that. The house layout doesn't help, since there is L shape to the house and of course, the router and the TV are at opposite ends of that L shape. Like an idiot, I crawled down into the basement, punched a hole in the floor where the router was, ran a CAT6 wire all the way underneath the room where the TV is, terminated everything . . . then found out the damned television doesn't even have an ethernet port! Dumbasski! Oh well, no solution it looks like for me if I want to have both. If it were just me, it would be no problem since I'm a geek. It's not me though - my girlfriend really likes being able to pause live television and I know she would not be on board if it meant unplugging this, then plugging in that - nope, not gonna happen. Sigh . . . Seriously, how much can adding an ethernet port cost?!?! Ah, but therein lies the crux of the biscuit . . . the #1 Corporate Rule: IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE! I spit on their nose!
I have no clue how much it would cost to add a port, BUT you have to take into consideration that the software that runs the TV may not allow it to work with the new post. This doesn't (my method) work for all TV's and it sucks that manufacturers don't take into consideration crappy WiFi. Good Luck my friend!
@@FDNY8231 It never, ever dawned on me to look for an RJ-45 port . . . oh well, ignorance is not bliss. She does NOT want to change things and is happy with how thing are right now. There it is . . .
@@thepirate5955 Sometimes you have to just accept brother.
Good info ,.... in other news, you really need to dust
Hahaha yeah
mine dident work for some reason
Try going into your (TV) system settings with it (Adapter) plugged in and reset the NETWORK connection and it should show up.
Onn roku 42 inch TV would not work even with the steps honesty they should add ethernet on all smart tvs.
I agree and this fix does not work with all Roku TV;s
But then,,is it HD anymore
Yes it would still be HD ... If your LAN connection supports HD streaming then that's what you'll be able to view.
When you turn off the TV and turn it back on again... is it automatically connected to wired network? I Have seen this in a ROKU forum:
"I am finding the UGreen USB Ethernet adapter works on my Series 3 TCL Roku TV. So far no more than 70 megs down but it works. What it does not do is work again after turning off the TV. It comes up NOT CONNECTED. A restart re-enables it, but that's not at all desirable. Anybody discovered a work around. You can set the power setting to reduce power at 15 minutes, which really only turns off the monitor. That way adapter stays connected but this consumes power and is not really standby.
Mine does the same as yours ... It is not recognized when re-powering the TV. I usually restart the TV OR do a Network Reset which always works.
@@FDNY8231 Okay... not so optimal. It is actually not mine, but a post I found while researching. It would be nice if a software update will allow for the settings to be retained. Looking for a budget ROKU TV that has an ethernet port.
Any work around for this issue?
Does having fast start enabled change anything?
@@afrojojo9475 I've tried fast start and it doesn't save the settings, still need to do network reset.
