Hey Doc Vstrom, I'm very happy that I run into your videos. They are just awesome and very helpful. Can you please upload one about how to adjust the headlights beam of the 650 XT ?. My lights are hitting the moon instead of the road. Greetings and salutations from Ecuador South America.
I’m a big V-Strom supporter; bought three new ones in the last 10 years - combined, close to 200 000 problem free kilometers. However, Suzuki will have to start bundling contemporary technology with their models. Having a TFT LCD display which includes GPS, Apple Play (or some derivation) tire pressure data and maintenance data/schedules is relatively inexpensive. Certainly, it’s a must if ‘Stroms are going to hold any market position. Also, Suzuki better hop on the trend towards preordering upgrades directly at the point of production. The basic ‘Strom is fine, but never again will I rip off and junk basic OEM components to replace them with better exhaust, brakes and suspension. Unless they produce an upgraded ‘Strom, I won’t be buying a fourth, but if they do . . . I will.
Sure Walter I agree in some parts but then again I will never pay 20+ K for a motorcycle that is also not reliable in the main parts. There are some expensive brands out there whose prices are outrageous and their reliability is very low. I agree I m not happy with some parts from Suzuki as well.
It's a difficult situation for Suzuki. First of all, we will all agree that they struggle to bring real technological progress to their bikes. They are using the same tech over and over again with only minor improvements. Manageable traction control and ABS being the absolute minimum on such a bike by today's standard. Cheers to them for bringing the low rpm assist which is an absolute delight for low speed maneuver. On the other side, they are the most reliable bikes out there and they still manage to provide their customers with a pleasant riding experience without out all the geeky stuff and at a reasonable price. As far as I am concerned, the V-Strom is a work tool and I like that I stil can fix it on the side of the road if anything happens, not worrying about any computer glitch. It's a good, strong bike, that does the job anyday, anytime. Hopefully they will improve it (TFT display, cornering abs and traction control, better brakes and suspension...) but it will come at a cost ... both financial and in reliability.
Doctor Vstrom, I also agree . . . that’s why being able to preorder more expensive components without being forced to buy the OEM components that come with the basic “dealership” bike is important. The TFT display is a no brainer and could be adapted to many Suzuki models, but I’d certainly pay $2000 - $3000 extra for upgraded seat, suspension, exhaust and brake components - “bespoke” bikes whose functionality can be accessorized at the point of production is the future. Hell, Suzuki could even provide a video link so consumers could watch their “personal” bike being built, crated and delivered.
Baptiste Yes, I’ve been a Suzuki fan since the 1970’s, even bought four New Suzuki motorcycles. I still have a GS850G I bought new in 1980, it now has over 200 000 kilometers on the odo - it just doesn’t break. But I’ve also owned other makes and Honda is just as reliable, BMW - in my experience- is reliable ( I owned one with over 160 000 kilometers) but the cost of ownership is high. The new Triumph line is also reliable, classy and great value. So as much as I want to be loyal to Suzuki, they don’t make it easy. All that said, in my opinion the ‘Strom is one of the best motorcycles ever produced.
Definitely every time daylight savings time comes around I have to look at my clock set to 1 hour away from where it should be it is so annoying good information on the other items
yes guys I know but the video was already large in time and after some point it becomes difficult to watch all or to search for a particular thing. That is why I left the clock or other more basic things out. I only included the most important ones.
In meantime I found the time setting. Switch the bike with the key to on, press up key and the key next to the rpm display for 2 seconds simultanously. Time is now blinking. Set it withe the up and down key. Best regards
Hello doctor. I just bought a brand new V strom from the store a week ago, and I'm so glad I came across your video. I think it is educational and will help many people. Before I bought this bike, I rode the previous version of the v strom for 7 years. I have over 100,000km on this bike so I can legitimately say I know it inside out. Of course, the third generation provides several extras that were missing from the previous bike. I mean....traction control. And it is precisely with him that my question is related. Is it possible that the traction control somehow affects the fuel consumption??? There is a strange feeling that the bike is slightly tripped when the traction control is on, and vice versa...when I turn it off, the bike becomes one idea more aggressive. It may just be a feeling.
Dr Vstorm,, Can share a video on adjusting rear absorber , or preload adjust ,, thx in advance ,,, Lastly your details is clear n details . Good work n great video
hi doctor.i asked you a short while ago about some noise i was experiencing from my bike.i took the ally bash plate offand it was much better.i have since read that drive chain noise can be amplified by the bash plate.his remedy was to stick sound deadening foam to the inside of bas plate.i have ordered some heat resistant stuff and will let you know how it turns out.im also going to try a 16t front sprocket.cannot get smooth 1st to second unless i do it quick from standstill.peter
Thanks for the update. The trick to smooth 1st to 2nd is to not have the throttle completely let go when you do the shift. It takes some practice but if the revs are low and you do this it will be smooth. Not always but almost always. Best, The Doc
Impressive wealth of knowledge! Thank you so much for your videos. I watched a few videos and have already subscribed and clicked the bell button to get all of your updates! I just bought a 2023 V-Strom 650 which will soon require its first (break-in) service. I am not a mechanic but I would absolutely love to work on my own bikes (I own 2 other bikes and 1 scooter). I browsed through your video library and I may have missed it but I didn't see a video talking about the first break-in service on a V-Strom 650. Do you have such video? If so, what is the link? If not, would you consider doing it? I know it would be super helpful for people such as myself that are new to both the bikes and at being a mechanic. It would be great to reference a video that talks about all the things the manual suggests for the break-in service. Not necessarily doing the first maintenance, but rather pointing out which bolts need to be checked for proper torque spec, how to lube the chain (I believe you already have a video on how to clean/lube the chain for a V-Strom 650), etc... essentially all items that need to be done on the first ever service. Thank you so much!
Thanks. First service, do change the oil sooner at 800kms with the oil filter. If you have wire spoke wheels check for loose spokes. Check and lube the chain. When breaking in the engine do not twist the throttle suddenly but rather progressively. Make sure to avoid letting the engine idle for too long and avoid cruising on same speed. Just choose rides with great variability where you often shift gears and change speed. Everything else should be good.
And remember, when you disconnect the instrument panel, for bulb replacement, for example, then, some sets will change, for example, mine switches instant fuel ratio from l/1000 km to km/l.
@@DrVstrom There's one malfunction I am experiencing, but it's related more to the cables than the instrument's panel. The gear selector indicator has mind of it's own and sometimes it's showing incorrect gear number. According to internet, the problem is in the gear selector cable's connector(s). But haven't time/will to investigate and fix it.
Hey doctor V-Strom i saw in your video (at minute 2:00) that you've got the word 'chec' appearing into the LCD and the temperature sensor it is at maximum. This one is a problem or an error that shall be fixed using the Odb cable? Or it is normal?! Because i found it appearing also on my V-Strom and i don't know if it was in that way from the beginning or if it is appeared in the last period! Thank you in advance..
@@DrVstrom thank you so much Sir.. i saw in Stormtrooper forum that it can be related to some malfunction of the side stand sensor or for a poor connection between some cable and the EFI.. that's why i asked to you .
Many times my 2018 1000XT ABS and TC light will stay on. I pull over turn off the engine, restart and problem fixed. I'm hearing about this happening to a few other Vstrom riders.
Hi Dr, how do I change the rolling average fuel consumption (km/l) for trip 1, trip2 , and the regular odometer? Mine is always on AVG1. At 20:30 your readout says AVG. How did you change it from AVG1?.
Hey there Doc , can the abs be turned off for riding off road , if so how . Can the fuse be removed to do this & will it cause any issues. Do you think it’s a good idea ? Or should i just leave it on. I’ve just fitted 50/50 tyres on my 2019 DL 650 & the rear brake on dirt with the abs on is not good. Any suggestions, thanks - John from Australia, great vid .

Great Information Thanks!!
Hello, no its not a problem if you first turn the key without the engine running. It is simply a way for the dash to check that all indications work.
@@DrVstrom thank you so much Sir.. i saw in Stormtrooper forum that it can be related to some malfunction of the side stand sensor or for a poor connection between some cable and the EFI.. that's why i asked to you .
Great video
Thanks :)
Many times my 2018 1000XT ABS and TC light will stay on. I pull over turn off the engine, restart and problem fixed. I'm hearing about this happening to a few other Vstrom riders.

John C it can but I do not recommend it. That is why I have not included it on my channel. Thanks for the comment.
Suzuki forever!!!!!
Do you have a video about changing from OEM Handguards to Barkbuster guards?
