This is a very important video. The two most distinct features that separate electric skateboards from other PEVs is its portability and ability to carve. I would love to see an ultralight short range board with a flexible deck. One other feature I would love to see is a folding handle right at the center if balance that folds under and secures with powerful magnets.
Probably the most underrated esk8 out there, so much more fun and intuitive to ride than the Flex line due to its stiffer and lower deck, and i love that it look just like a regular skateboard.
I love my x1 max not only because of it's lightweight and sleek design but also perfect waterproofness. I used to ride exway wave, but it was too fragile to water and not suitable for commuting.
wait, is this the onsra channel? where am I? haha exway has always crafted amazing boards, this def being one of them. the wave is still my top favorite board to ride from them. the deck, power, swapable battery, build in lights, so a head of its time. your right to say boards are just getting heavier and heavier these days. becoming some monster of a PEV. i still find myself riding the board boards when im not testing out or reviewing other products. its just easier to grab a light weight board and rip it around for errands for a few miles . they all have their place in the world, but i always find myself loving a good set of thane wheels on a nice deck with decent range. thats the sweet spot. good video my man, enjoyed the rants of your mind being spilled out onto the screen. looking forward to more.
I agree with most if not all of your opinions in this video. When I created my first Electric MTB, I made sure it was light could grind, carve, and boardslide. 2x 6S 5000mah lipos are not heavy at all. Also consider to allow larger packs to fit in the board to allow more range but add more weight if need be. Speed is not key for esk8: argee Can create areas in which you are safe yet feel like you are going faster: agree Boards are getting to large and to heavy: agree
Yes! My plan is to get an Exway Wave (or similar) with travel battery before the Spring riding season starts. So tired of my heavy Evolve GTR. Just a little worried about the terrible roads here and smaller wheels.
Not to go fast or to feel like im going fast, as you said objectively there are better ways. The sensation you get on an electric skateboard is unlike any other EV besides EUCs and one wheels, but all of those are a little different and everyone will have their own preference. I love the feeling of standing on that deck, feeling the lateral gs from the motors to my feet, and the carve , getting into the flow of it and really vibing. Not to mention you will end up meeting lots of friends. Eskate can change your life for sure.
Daniel, You really need to experience Tito Systems Duality trucks. They really are next level as far as being super stable yet still as just maneuverable as double king pin trucks!
*Openin, and overall video style gave me 2017/18 DKwan video vibes,* was such a golden esk8 time with budget eBoards startin to get really good. 🤟🏽⚡️🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽 Love havin a lighter board and then a separate board with longer range. I've never cared about goin faster, 15-18mph is the sweet spot for me, the more stable the ride the more I can stay at 18 maybe even 20mph for short bursts. Some people love skatin fast, not me 😂 Like you say, ridin a shortboard/mini always feels fast lol, you can Feel like you're goin faster without the increased danger of goin faster... but shorter wheelbase is a bit less stable lol. Insanely fun though. Can we have more videos in this style!! 👌🏽👌🏽 I've bloody missed them!!
I use my diy shortboard with maxfind m5 kit to get to the metro and then put it in a backpack with my laptop, lunch etc, I would say even 6kg is a lot. I could carry it with my hands but that’s really a pain when walking between stations and platforms, stairs etc
I love my flex. I just wait for new boards around the 7-8kg range. Portability is key to commuting in the city. Wish the brands would focus on iterating in this range rather than building more tanks..
Last year, I got an X1 Max on sale for 399.99 USD. Great portable board especially if you can get it at that price. Not having an external battery enclosure makes a big difference when carrying it on public transportation
The other cool thing about light weight hub boards is that they're pretty easy to kick push too. If you can kick push and get it moving a bit before using the throttle, you can actually get quite a bit more range. It uses the most battery when accelerating from a stop so if you help it out by getting it moving a bit, it makes a huge difference.
Unfortunately exway have decided to discontinue the x1 max, they now only have the belt version in stock, spoke to support and they're trying to sell out stock
Had x1 max for a bit over a year now and the remote does random but consistent disconnects now. It vibrates and the screen says disconnected but I don't lose control of the torque. So it still works fine but stuff like this eats my trust. I don't bomb it full torque now just because the seed of doubt this has put into my head. Never contacted support because of what I've heard about dealing with them. Had a 330$ ownboard w1 for 4 years before "upgrading". Still 100% trust the safety of that thing. Conclusion: I'm never getting exway again even though the board is awesome.
The X1 Max is SO good that I've bought a second one, just in case Exway stops producing it. Added 105 Cloudwheels and this is the perfect board for everything in my city (Cologne). Just love it and it is still a social ice breaker for conversations with strangers. BTW which wheels were you testing Daniel?
What are the lightweight wheels you were trying out? I'm very much looking for the same things in an electric skateboard as you do. Got an exway wave by your recommendation and use it really often. But I think a formula of a lightweight, everyday commuter board could still be refined. I think it would be possible to get a bit smaller wheels and lighter trucks (I always think of how light tensor trucks are). Pair that with something like a loaded coyote or ballona deck would be pretty cool.
I broke mine X1 Max becouse of one rain ride, but it was great board. I bought Evolve Renegate diablo, somehow Exwey customersupport felt way better than Evolve (and I live in Europe), I just hope it was not a mistake.
@@alexandrefaustino2448 what a bs comment 1.battery gosts too mich you can get sell it for a good price 2. At the end of the day it's still a weak biard performance wise and I wanted something much faster eith more range
Agreed on speed. Fastest I have bombed down a hill was close to 35mph (Sorry I have 0 fucking clue what a "ki-lo-met-er"? is I am American) I lived in Boston for about 3 years and eskated almost everywhere on multiple WOWGO boards. For my regular commutes and even pleasure rides I never exceeded 15-20mph. Just didn't see the point going that fast when I was having to slow down for turns, stoplights, pedestrians. But I do think e-skate speed has the same allure as car speed. No one buys a fast car to do 150mph on their way to work, they do it because the capability to do some makes you feel good. I doubt most people with boards that have high top speeds ever actually use that speed on a daily basis.
so true. I too hate the direction eskate is going. heavy, fast, expensive...i have not bought a new board beacuse of that. still ride my old wowgo3....sad that the battery is dying slowly though.
just some perspective...yes i hae a powerful board and its my first...but all power doesnt need to be used for speed.... mine is capped at 15mph and i can get oer 8hrs of riding w 115mm airless tire...i just sarteed riding everything is turned down... but if i decide to goo econn and race.. or a go kart track.. i can pump the settings up and compete! (nomad n1 2024 gear drive) yea its a lil heavy...but usually im only carrying it 10 feet lol or im rolling that mofo by the front trucks.... i do plan on getttig the exwat wave explicittly ffor travel... biggger battery and ore power is just better for vesatility,,prime example,,,,im riding for 8 rs i dont have to carry my back pack lol or i an use it to push a stroller ...i understand your point about more power and range... but its a matter of how u use it too... reitis some boards with lower settings.... just a thought
I really liked the board but the service is suboptimal to say the least. I had the hub variant and the left motor died within a few months. No warranty from them and first they allow me to buy the motor but then they said the motor is no longer available and I had to buy the belt motor upgrade. Now it makes a lot more noise, is heavier and way less stealthy which is important in my country. I think backfire is about to come out with a new portable board. Maybe also a new era since the era 3 is no longer for sale.
This deck is sooo stiff that my feet hurt, I tried many different possibilities and I could not adapt, I have sold it and got a new Meepo flex deck, now my pain is gone
I have to disagree with the statement about speed I also want a lighter board but I want to have a top speed that is high enough that it will get me to my work faster to reduce my commute time And for some people like me this commute bike road happen to be 7km straight long without any red lights and any pedestrian so yes I want to go fast to save time
Up to you to assess risk! Just remember that the severity of injury and risk of death increase exponentially with speed. (Many studies done on this for automobiles. Can look them up.) You can travel 7 km in 14 min at 30 km/h. Or you can double your speed to 60 km/h and cut that time down to 7 min, but your severity of injury and risk of death would be about four times higher. At some point, choosing a lower risk vehicle may be the wiser decision to save on time.
It’s nice to see a UA-camr revisit a board.

We really need more lightweight & waterresistant boards!
Really enjoyed the casual riding footage through the city, thanks:)
Love this episode. Glad to see an eskateboarders point of view of riding thru the streets of China. Thank you.
Nice review!
Probably the most underrated esk8 out there, so much more fun and intuitive to ride than the Flex line due to its stiffer and lower deck, and i love that it look just like a regular skateboard.
🔥🙏 Agree regarding the lighter boards. Boards got bigger and bigger and powerful since we lost boosted boards era.

omg guys.. Daniel did the Fabi!!!
I was wondering what the new lighter and softer 105mm wheels are? Are you going to post a video on them?
Yes! My plan is to get an Exway Wave (or similar) with travel battery before the Spring riding season starts. So tired of my heavy Evolve GTR. Just a little worried about the terrible roads here and smaller wheels.

X2!! X2!! X2!!

Where'd you get it for $399?
From Exway's site. DKwan mentioned it on a post on his channel about a year ago
I own this with hub motors and it is the best board ever.
It is damn sexy and clean
@@eisernherz3929yea! I had a boosted and flux at2 before that and this board is just blowing them out of the water

🐍 Naming this board your #3 favorite Esk8, forces me to ask, "What is #1 & #2 favorite ❓️".
I had that same question!
Literally watched for this reason!
I LOVE my x1 max! Such a powerhouse for the what the board is. I have the hub version because of where I live etc.

Did you like the wheels? I have an x1max with meepo cyclone 105 and it feels great, curious about a lighter 105 wheels
Have you tried Jetsurf Skate? It’s the board I own and it’s fantastic!!
X1 and flex are sold-out Exway. Wonder if they're getting ready to release updated models.
I agree, weight should be a more important goal. The race to increase topend speed IMO is putting the sport at risk of restrictive regulations.

I think they're being announced later this month. Or re-announced...

I should have a video about those wheels in a couple weeks.

but what is your No.1?
Is this a hint that a newer version of max is coming? Please be, mine is on its last legs.
That would be awesome
When will the Wowgo 5x pioneer review be released?
My favourite exway board 👌
The sooner we put solid-state battery tech into electric skateboard decks the better!
Had the x1 pro and loved it but after 4 years the battery and speed just got too bad. But awesome board
Can't replace the battery yourself I guess ?

How did you modify it? What are the new trucks and wheels? Got any wheel bite? Are these really 105s?
The wheels in this video are stock 85s. Well the front are clear urethane but otherwise the same as stock.
Yeah it puzzles me how people go 30+ MPH with both of their feet perfectly sideways instead of pointing forward. Like how?!
on the street I limit the board to 15mph, off road no limits. The speed for me is when im off road and there is only me to get hurt.
Can you imagine when solid state batteries are used on these boards . Lighter batteries packs with more range .
You should be stoked for the backfire nalu right?
Not too big, heavy or fast 😄
Ideal for travelling
We’ll see!
