We do it a little different offshore smaller tacks an we never drive a wedge in it just use a spacer. I guess when you learn it different it looks wrong when you see done a different way . I don't like 2" sch40 or 80 pipe . Offshore pipeline welder 32 years . It's great your sharing your skills with other welders God bless you .

Just found your channel. Giving you a sub. Never welded pipe before but after watching you I'm sure I like welding in a warm shop as opposed to outside like you. My hats off to you and all the pipe welders out there.

I maybe wrong but the water in the pipe can only come from condensation. Pipe left out during a warm day attracts condensation as it cools during the night and subject to the time of year and terrain dew can also collect in pipe laid outside. Here in the UK it just rains for 300days a year so water is problem we have to live with.

Not sure my comment is necessary but imma say it anyways, bout 5 years too late. There’s no moisture in the steal … the preheat is to prevent rapid cooling and thermal shock basically, preventing cracking in the bead or tacks. The moisture you see is from the combustion process of the preheat torch itself, fuel combined with oxygen creating water vapor… it’s condensation basically on the cold pipe. Flame impingement. Not trying to be a smart A$$ and call anyone out, just want to clarify something that’s incorrect. This and other videos are super helpful on many things and very spot on in most cases. (Welder here for 25 years myself) just trying to add informative information to fellow welders.

Hey man, stumbled on your channel. Couple questions. Why isn’t your helper fitting you up? And why not tack all your spools up first, toss em aside until you’ve got 30-40”, theeeen toss em on your wheel, heat them up and weld em. This way you can keep the heat in your piece and your fitter/helper can leave you alone for a couple hours and smash out the math and cut pups. Not sure if that would help you out. I know everyone has their own way of doing things. I’m a pipefitter/welder and I learn something new from every guy I work with still.

You got that SAE 300 dude when I had figured out my reactor right that freaking 350 I've got will drag a Rod up uphill man never seen anything like it I know the stuff that you're doing is a hell of a lot more technical than what I'm doing however a good weld is a good weld rather your spinning circles run in the quarter mile I got about 25000 pounds of steel to hang in this house I'm going to take y'all to work with me one day I'd like to get an arc shot camera but they're too expensive I'm just getting started but to be able to teach people Arc blow and how to counteract that in the differences between welding machines is phenomenal I'm going to do a video of an oil burner jobsite heater very simple heat exchanger in burner got a small job to do today but I'll see if I can't get something downloaded on it tonight y'all stay safe

So the concept of preheat to temp deals with slow dissipation of heat on the item to be welded? Cooling rapidly causes the cracking? And standing water on the pipe definitely cant be welded.

I miss that job badly my welder was very influential and still calls to check on me I believe I messed up lol I currently work for Fagen thinking I would learn more about pipe fitting in a plant but that was a joke. Bob Langill in the video it specifically says there is no preheat tempture in the procedure... not that there is no welding procedure. Hope that clears it up.

95% of the stuff stuff you said after heating the pipe. I did not know. On the knowledge stuff. Cold I wonder. My welding school don't teach us 100% they teach us up hill down hill and all the fruity stuff

As a fitter, everything about this video made me cringe. First fit.... no regard for high low or side to side or gap. Guy put half the root in on first tac. Then puts the other quarter of root in and hangs out. Draw my life one way or the other not my pipe ffs.....

Ok little lady. Yes should of mentioned high low side to side and gap but I figured that was pretty obvious and self explanatory but as long as it’s square and good to go . Send it to the bolts let them bolt it up.... if you are having a small conniption over the video the pause button or the, get the fuck off my page button is pretty easy to find on your phone. I looked your page up and there is zero anything... Have a great day man. Hope that cleared some stuff up for you.

@@JacobSchofield actually didn't clear up anything. I was watching your channel to check out what you pipe line guys do that is so different than us industrial guys other than our welders go up hill and yall down hill, you boys stay in a ditch and I'm most of the time in a ceiling or 100 feet up pulling measurements off of steel. I take alot of pride in what I do so when I see the stuff I mentioned it bothers me. Most welders can almost fit their way out of a wet paper bag but know the importance of a good fit. Even if it was for demonstration purposes doesn't make it right, maybe I'm just being to anal. And just cause I dont have any vids, info, or content doesn't mean I dont have a point. Sorry if you had a conniption cause I criticized you.
