I love it when journeyman craftsman take the time to share information and tips that they have learned, sometimes the hard way , with younger men just trying to get started in the trade. I served an apprenticeship many years ago as a machinist and still have fond memories of the men who helped me when I was a greenhorn trying to get started in the trade. God bless the craftsman of the world. They are the people who built this country.

A good friend from Texas visited us here in Alberta and bought me a pancake. Sorry to say it's not allowed on many jobsites but when I can, I'll slip it on and enjoy American made. 😎

Safety glasses won't fit too comfortably and with so many sites expecting hard hat combos, you could only wear it burning rod in your backyard. SMH.

Very interesting. I was aware of pancake hoods but never considered the issue of light from the rear. I use a standard hood and have that problem in my brightly lit shop all the time. It's very annoying. I've been thinking of ways to fix it using some kind of drape over the back of the hood or something. Maybe I should try a pancake. Hmm.

I know this a old video but I lost my $60 blue demon clearview lens 3 days after getting them. I weld a wooden barge putting these building some bumpers for them big boats to bump in to and I notice my lenses came loose and they needed a welder to weld something at the moment and i accidentally flipped my hood up to grind then when I went to flip my hood down my fingers went straight through the lens slot. I looked at the water there was every thing sunk to the bottom at least 5 feet deep. I threw shirt and shield off quick and I could top the bottom and tried using a shovel to find it but it was gone. I learn from my stupid mistake, if something fails with ur personal equipment no matter what the job need done within that time frame, fix your stuff. And that was the first auto dark lenses I've ever used and I've being welding since 2017 my 10th grade year. To anyone who trys to put a variable shade auto dark lenses in a fibre metal tigerhood make sure to trim enough wear the lenses squeezes in and cover the lens slot with something. If a piece of gorilla tape works use it.

I always feel like I look like a lunatic when I look at myself through the reflection lol. The original pancake hood seems to be a better design, as it's face shield is all one piece it has less parts to break - although it will warp out slightly over time where it rounds from face to ear cover. You can also get it in flip front or not, dunno if that an option on either of those. Personally I prefer the scoop with a shade 10 gold lens over anything I've ever used, never been distracted by the reflection inside.
