The other day we saw a Moose cow with what we thought was a small bull (turned out to be her spiker calf) mom and I were just watching them. I started to show her some basic moose calls, the cow we were watching was convinced we were a bull, she came within 120 yards of us and then proceeded to PEE for us! Mom was loving seeing real animal responses to my calls! :D

Deer are a big nuisance where I live, and I go back and forth on whether to seriously consider hunting as a new hobby. Any tips on how to start, or even help make up my mind? I understand that this sort of thing requires a lot of time and money. Heck, I don’t even know if I’d enjoy it enough to dedicate a great deal of my life to it, but dang would it be a dream to come home with a beautiful rack and meat for days. Kudos to you guys for being crazy enough to actually do this, you madlads! 🍻
@nicks2581 hey, I appreciate your input. And yes, if I were to hunt I would 100% intend on eating the deer and preserving/making use of the animal as much as possible. I have eaten venison on a few occasions and I find it quite tasty. 😋 Unfortunately I don’t have much experience with firearms or weapons in general, but I am definitely thinking of owning one for protection purposes. I will look into my state laws (I live in NY so I’m dreading how strict it’s gonna be). And my bother and I have a few friends that hunt and I’ve been asking random questions here and there. My gripe with it all is that it takes a lot of time and effort to have good, ethical success in deer hunting. I just don’t know if it would be worthwhile to me. It is a very expensive sport, and every mistake you make can be very costly (accidentally inflict unnecessary suffering on an animal, spoiling meat, harm yourself with your weapon, etc.) But, you know, I’ll keep chewing on it! Thank you.
@malokeytheallaround that is why learning the key points of firearm use is so important. I am actually a mostly self taught hunter, so starting out for me was a bit slow. I do have buddies who are very experienced hunters, but are work schedules are so different that we never got out together beyond once or twice. Wounding an animal is a possibility, but that is where practicing a lot with your hunting equipment comes into play. Truthfully, once you know your hunting tool, how to use it properly, how to track, and most importantly when you have a clear ethical shot, the odds of wounding a deer that you can not recover is very very low. Odds are higher that you will wound and/or kill more deer driving then you will as a well trained hunter. Since you are new to shooting, I suggest starting out with a rifle in.22LR, the Ruger American or 10/22 (if legal) with an 18in barrel is good for the money. Practice with it, take it small game hunting to hone your shooting skills while collecting some quality meat, then look into a center fire rifle. I don't know anything about NY firearm laws, but I would suggest a rifle that uses detachable magazines vs a rifle that does not have detachable mags for a duel purpose rifle.

Back 30 years ago ,Saskatchewan Canada was the dream location to go for huge 300+lb chocolate colored antlered bucks, not sure if it still is today cause I’ve not kept up with it through watching videos like I did back then but 30 years ago I’d have loved a chance to spend a week or so there deer hunting 👍🏼

Has anyone ever gone hunting for animals in the forest? With your parents, or any other relative? Or have you never gone hunting but feel like it? I'm from Brazil and here the laws don't allow this kind of thing, here near my city, there is a species of deer, unfortunately it's very difficult to see them around, there are few in my region, here in Brazil people usually go hunting Capivaras, the meat is very good.

Yes a rifle offers many advantages. However, not all areas and seasons allow the use of rifles
