    Young people want to do everything they can to be healthy and live longer, which is fine.
    I stopped coffee, soda, etc. for a few months. The only difference for me was I missed the things I loved. I'm old and in poor health. I'm not interested in extending my life at this point. I just want to get it over with. So, I'm writing this as I sip on a delicious cup of coffee.

    I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 40 and I'm in my 60's now. I only drink one cup in the morning (organic) because anything more than that makes me jittery. I feel crappy all the time despite a healthy lifestyle and I've tried quitting for a week at a time and didn't notice any improvement so went back to coffee... but now I'm reading here that it can take months before you see improvement so I aim to stick it out this time.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Місяць тому +5

      Hey Rick,
      It's interesting that you didn't start until you were 40. At least you're drinking organic. I get what you're saying about feeling crappy despite a healthy lifestyle. That has been my exact issue too. I felt like I fixed everything else in my life but I kept drinking coffee. I think you're correct that for some people it can really take some time to feel better again. I think this might be related to our adrenal health. Have you done health testing - ie: hormones or cortisol/adrenal health? One test that's really detailed is called DUTCH Complete (sold by DHA labs) and it looks at all of those things. For me, my cortisol is extremely low. Drinking coffee just stresses the adrenal glands a lot more. If you feel crappy or tired/lack of energy - it could be any of those things or hormones, or your thyroid. But, The coffee just seems to make those issues worse (for me anyway). It helps to be a bit more active or do short bursts/little workouts here and there to keep the energy up after you quit coffee. I'm not trying to recommend something that's a replacement drug for the coffee, but I recently tried using methylene blue and I have only taken it a handful of times so far - but it really increased my natural energy levels when I took it - I felt better than I've felt in a long time - optimal. I only took it a few times and I am taking a break now as I have a test coming up so I have to be off of everything. But, it might be something worth looking into. I think it could possibly help in the weeks after you get off of coffee. If you do take it, you have to make sure it's USP grade and 3rd party tested for heavy metals. This doctor does some really interesting videos on it: ua-cam.com/video/OiyJPCavdC0/v-deo.html if you want to check it out. For me, I am going to experiment with it a bit more but I think I will end up not taking it daily. Some other supplements that might help with energy and feeling better: NMN, NR or COQ10.

    I'm 3 weeks into my 30 day no coffee challenge thanks to you. First 4-5 days was rough but now I'm okay with not having it. Miss the habit of drinking it in the morning when I start work but that's about it. I don't really notice much of a change in anything else. Doing much better overall after starting carnivore on Sept 1st. Going to go a few more weeks, possibly months without coffee just see how things go. May never go back to it. Really appreciate you helping me get off of the addiction and for keeping us all updated on your progress. Best of luck with things!

    45 days in now. I've had no issues at all other than replacing the "routine" of many coffees daily. No other withdrawals. I have Instant Chicory root powder but have maybe one cup a day. Will stop that when I run out. Just another added expense. Sleep has improved greatly. More REM sleep for sure (by about 20% more than previously). Also less "agitated" as my emotions seem more evenly tempered now as well. Overall a very good choice to stop. (I've now knocked off many bad habits in the past 3 years - smoking, alcohol, chewing gun, artificial sweeteners, oxalates, and now caffeine and coffee).
    Keep up the good work!

    It's all histamine related. I see this a lot in people who suffer from MCAS. Histamine interferes with sleep as well. Check the deep sleep on your Oura ring and you will notice that your deep sleep will be significantly less compared to nights that you were not having histamine issues. You can also do a CBC blood test and pay close attention to your eosinophils as they will be above 1. One thing that can help is 10mg of chewable Zyrtec. If symptoms subside, then there's your answer. One last thing - if you or anyone feels anxiety or gets heart palpitations after eating certain foods, then it most likely is MCAS related as well. Why? Because your body stores thyroid hormone in peripheral tissues and during an MCAS episode, your mast cells release histamine along with thyroid hormone causing an immediate influx which in turn causes an acute rise in free T3 resulting in severe anxiety and even panic attacks in some people. The fix? 10mg of chewable Zyrtec to stop the MCAS and you see a relief in symptoms within 20 minutes. How do you fix MCAS? Well, that's beyond the scope of this comment, but it most always is gut related and/or exposure to mold.

    Sinus infection!? Yikes. I hope you are over that soon! They are the worst! So the long and short of my experience quitting - I quit for 30 days a few years ago as the challenge, was painful, but jumped back on coffee as soon as it was over. Attempted to quit for good about a year ago, which was a total and complete failure. I caved on about day 4 or 5 when the headaches and insane lethargy were just too much. However, this time, I'm over the withdrawals already and I am on day 5. I did a short ween, cutting to one cup for two days, and I definitely felt it in the afternoon those two days as usually I am a 2-3 large cup drinker. No coffee since and this is day 5 total since the ween. Every attempt has been different in terms of the withdrawal symptoms, but the ease of quitting this time I think is for two reasons. For the symptoms, I think being on the carnivore diet helps tremendously. I had heard this mentioned before on various carnivore youtube channels, and I think it's true as my symptoms were mild and over within three days. The other reason is that I am in-between jobs right now and I don't have any work stressors like meetings that were ALWAYS my Achilles heel and crutch...I always had to have plenty of coffee to feel 'prepared' for a meeting, or to 'manage' a busy day. Work stress sabotages you relentlessly. But being in-between jobs has given me that runway of time where I don't have work stressors to trigger me into making another cup. If I was still at my previous job, pretty sure I would not have been able to quit. Anyhoo! Great channel, and looking forward to further updates on your quitting coffee journey!

      Thanks for sharing this! I totally understand about having work stressors and feeling the need to be on the caffeine to keep up with it all. It's good you have time now to get through the withdrawals and it's awesome you're doing better since getting on carnivore. It's pretty tough to let it go! I think it just takes a while to really heal and get over missing it. :) I hope things keep getting better for you since you quit!

    I quit coffee cold turkey for two months. Then one morning in the middle of January, I woke up feeling soooo tired and gloomy. I could smell coffee brewing in the kitchen that my mother started. (Mom is elderly and lives with me.) Without a second thought, I dragged myself into the kitchen and poured myself a big o' cup of steaming hot coffee on that cold, dark January morning. That was a few years ago and I still haven't managed to successfully quit coffee.
    PS: Instead of drinking coffee when I woke up in January feeling tired and gloomy, I should have bundled up and gone outside for a walk.

My go to hot beverage is saltee water, if I got hte urge for coffee. But you looking great and thanks for your indepth insight. My sleep is still disturbed, I've been waiting up in the middle of the night, BUT when i wake up, I've had the best conversations with myself, so it is not that bad. I also quit smoking weed 5 days ago (I used to smoke every day), so I quit my two favorite drugs at the same time. The weird part is that I feel high all the time. Have I screwed up my brain forever? Lol, I dunno, but it's like a free high so, not bad either. I'm planning to stick to it and see how it goes.

    Do you think there's a component to coffee besides caffeine that makes it detrimental? As opposed to black tea, green tea or even chocolate? Is having a small square of chocolate after dinner "cheating?"

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Місяць тому +1

      I think it's totally up to you if you have a square of chocolate after dinner. Some people are sensitive to caffeine after quitting coffee, so it could disrupt your sleep possibly. But it's probably a really low amount. I think you just have to experiment with things. I don't really think of it as cheating though. That's a great question about the coffee versus tea. I have no idea. I do know that for me, I think the coffee has more of a negative impact (the caffeine or whatever else is in it) than things like green tea - though I've never really tested this out. Some people end up quitting coffee and switching to tea first to see how they feel - then deciding on whether or not to quit all caffeine. I just don't like being dependent on a drink in the morning. For me if I switched to tea, I think it would become a big ritual like the coffee was - where I needed it every morning. For that reason I am staying away from it. But I have heard there are some potential health benefits to green tea.

    5 days off caffeine here. I used to have like 3 or 4 strong coffees up to mid-day. I stopped cold turkey. I'm going throug without desired or urges to have a coffee, so it is being really easy, however, I'm noticing physical withdrawal symptoms which caught me unexpectedly. Since 1st day I'm poorly sleeping, my HRV is down dramatically, I feel anxious, my resting heart rate is higher than normal. I think the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems is altered as a withdrawal result. Day five starting now and I believe this is dlowly improving. Now I'm aware of the real drug coffee is. I went carnivore some half year ago and despite removing most foods, none of them caused this withdrawal effect. Another withdrawal symptom was headache during initial 3 days.

      Great job getting through the first 5 days - especially after having 3-4 strong coffees a day. It's super interesting about your HRV lowering - usually that's from your body being stressed. Some people wean themselves down on the amount they're having by using half decaf and half normal coffee, until they really lower it a lot. 18 months carnivore( added occasional berry or peach), I had chronic sinusitis since 2020 really bad. It started getting worse on carnivore (more often) then few months in flare ups were less frequent. I discovered I react badly to histamines now. I avoid mince meat and beef seasoned for longer than 20 days. 1 decaf daily. I would give up on coffee cause my hair is still falling and nails are bendy. Things changed with sinusitis when I added dr W. David gut yogurt. It would basically stop the sinus pain within 2-3hours. That's interesting to hear about the yogurt. I can't go that route as I am lactose intolerant. I have found that quercetin can be somewhat helpful for sinus issues but not if the issues are really bad. In addition to quitting coffee, I have been consuming a lot of minced meat so I wonder if I have this issue as well...I will try to look into it more. I can now also have couple of slices of Gouda type cheese or some cottage cheese. However I don’t crave dairy as much as I did before. Glycinate is good, but does not make you poop, it works like just relaxing the smooth muscles of the body so it's gentle. Make sure you are getting about 7400 mg a day of the Potassium in your E. powder. Watch out for the E. drinks that have too much Sodium, especially if you are flying.

    A warm and Grateful THANK YOU to you Holly. Your words are TRUE in this MoneyMoney driven world. I started Today, 1st of January (a headache, but it's ok). More than 30 years...drinking coffee...for its taste especially..and to accompagny a piece of cake...But, i definitely wish to get rid of it; Your words are really true....even if the lobbies will fight, again and again, to say the total opposite of course, through (corrupted) comments or "scientific" researches or via (well paid) doctors, "studies" etc Thanks again Holly! Love your video! Yes , follow the road less traveled is my moto. I watch all the sheeple go up the plant based hill, and I go down the dark, scary and crazy meat based path. It works. It is the correct path for me. I am pretty sure coffee is toxic and ultimately not good, but I do have 1 or 2 cups a day. I feel like I could take it or leave it, but I'm addicted to everything basically. . At least I realize it. Am I addicted to red meat?🤔 It makes me feel amazing and I keep eating it. I ain't stopping either. 😋

    70 Days caffeine free and i finally have natural energy again. Dont quit coffee and eat like crap, youll still feel like crap. Waking up takes a few minutes longer, muscle spasms and some aches, maybe its growing pains lol. Every day i appreciate not drinking coffee a little bit more. Thanks for sharing your journey.

      Love this! Thank you for sharing it. Yeah food is so important when you quit. I've also found that exercising in short bursts helps me with energy throughout the day. I still have the part where waking up takes a few minutes longer, but it's just a new normal for me and not bad at all now. Great job on the 70 days!!!

    23 days no coffee now. I feel I sleep way longer and better when drinking coffee or am I still feeling withdrawal this late? I sleep a few hours then can't get back to sleep most days. I used to pass out as soon as I hit the pillow

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  27 днів тому

      I think you can feel the withdrawal symptoms for a really long time. I try to work out more so I sleep better at night (esp since quitting coffee). Taking the supplement glycine might help you fall asleep faster. But, staying asleep is hard for some people...I recently did a video here ua-cam.com/video/7ulKd1_sp5Y/v-deo.htmlsi=ic6J6QoZdM4oNbJo about waking up at 3 AM. Besides fixing my diet, some light therapy glasses called Luminette have really helped me. I don't get much sun where I live.

      @LifeDIY Oh I know how it is without much sun this time of year. I'm only a few hours south of you in Milwaukee. I work nights so sleeping in the day can be a challenge sometimes. The night shift is probably why I was hitting the caffeine so hard to begin with. I'm a casino table games dealer. We have some pretty weird schedules.

    I used to have 3-5 cups a day, but stopped probably 18months ago, never had sinus issues, Ive never used a spray in my life though, i feel, like all drugs, they make the original issue worse in the end.
    My sister gets blocked sinus' from dairy, may be worth investigating (although aren't you on carnivore?). I find high intensity cardio every day helps the most with quitting, although im first to admit, its purely anecdotal, i just feel like the fitter u get, the less u fatigue

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks, Brandon! I also find that high intensity cardio has been the most helpful thing for me! I like to do short bursts throughout the day - usually 2-3x a day now and it's helped me so much. I tend to it shortly after eating. My sister would also have sinus issues from dairy. I don't have any dairy in my diet luckily. My sinus issues are a lot better now though they may happen from time to time. It was just pretty bad on month 2 and 3, but better now. I am not exactly eating carnivore now but very low carb - or very similar to carnivore but some things added in.

  • @shamrockschool6406

    Great video! I can relate to this very much. I don’t like the idea of being dependent on anything except God. I knew breaking away from coffee ☕️ would be a tough thing to do. I decided to be easy on myself and go about it slowly. I’m becoming more indifferent to it now which is good. The idea of coffee being a social ritual is perhaps the toughest part right now. I might need to transition to some type of tea… so far so good anyhow!
