Thanks so much for Sharing!! You're a Great Fisherman and Wonderful Teacher.. I really appreciate you taking out the time to create the Video 📹🎥... I went to Pulaski N.Y(Salmon River) last week for my very 1st time.. My Crew and I had a BLAST!!! We caught our 3 Fish limit and headed to the Fishouse 🐟🎣 to get em clean up and Fillet..😊
is that actually true? ..... "The distance between the hook, artificial fly or lure and any weight attached to the line or leader, whether fixed or sliding, shall not exceed four feet." ..... that means a swivel is added weight, but what if you tie on your own leader?
@@briantalbot7929 I’m not sure if he’s referring to the leader or the tippet, my leader when I fish is usually 7ish feet, but the tippet is only allowed to be 4. (The separation between your hook and the next break in your line can’t exceed 4 feet)
Mid 90's video i'm guessing. Not too much has changed but the portly angler is now DEC. Steelhead lodge looks brand new here too. Gotta love the salmon river! Not soo much the crowds but lol. Fish on!! Comin down! Lol.. Good times!
For this type of fishing usually it’s just flys, salmon eggs, egg sacks, or sponge. They usually aren’t trying to eat it, more you’re trying to floss them in the mouth.
You’re a fly fisherman, dude…you already know what to do 🤙. If you tie flies, these types of salmon flies are fun. Big bright colors, experimenting with weight, globug hooks, not trying to obsessively “match the hatch”. Fun stuff
My advice…get your license online (don’t hold up everyone at the tackle shop) and if you’re specifically targeting salmon, egg sacs are a waste of money. All you need is something that’s annoying to the fish and high visibility so you can gauge your depth. No rocket science involved. Lastly, if you’re an experienced fisherman, you don’t need a guide. My brother and I were on top of fish within an hour the first year we specifically targeted salmon.
You lost me at "Runs that rival the West Coast or Alaska "... what drugs are you on? 🤔 it's just another put and take, dirty , overcrowded NY stream. Get a grip dude.
Videos so old I'm surprised he's not teaching weighted treble techniques

And BTW a 9’ leader on a spinning rod is an excellent way to meet the local DEC agent

You can use a leader up to 15ft so your wrong
@@briantalbot7929 Not in Oregon or Washington.
Over here if you use anything over 6’ we pretty much just assume you are trying to snag or floss

Let me guess... this guy is from Long Island?
Grew up on that river good times!!
How can this be a new video when you posted a picture of the Portly Angler , its been the DEC academy for a very long time now.
Credits put is as 1998.
yep this is from 1998
OMG
a 12' leader - no 12' leaders these days - "old school lining" - I've fished the Salmon River for 45 yrs....been there, done that...
I'm sorry but I'm busting a gut - this guy is passionate about salmon flossing - I can relate!
this is hysterical!
Jezus josh! Sir you stink, teach me, lol
Doesn’t look like anyone reeled up or moved when you hooked that male. That’s gotta be frustrating when lots of people there

Cmon josh
He’s one of those guys that acts like everybody else has never touched a fishing rod. Yelling at poor josh
You lost me at 9 foot leader. Flosser
can you imagine if you did this shit today? even the worst snaggers on the river would be making fun of you.
What a joke
Ridic video lmfao
I don't think your son enjoyed fishing with you
