Your philosophies and theories on technique are refreshing and make me look at the biomechanics of the throws from a different angle. Disregard the comments that trash talk... they're nonsense and close-minded
Love the videos coach Matt! I threw in HS and now using videos to help coach Middle school girls, we dominated, and won first county championship since the 90s in my first season. My 7th grade daughter just threw 28’ first session this year with MS size shot. 👏
This exercise of keeping the weight on the power leg when sliding and staying balanced, looks like a good one for us. We not only open up too soon sometimes but also aren't getting enough lower body torque behind our discus throws. We will try this exercise Coach Matt.
I'm having a killer time keeping my weight back in the glide. I have a little boogaloo shuffle I use that allows me to get the feel of weight back, but it obviously doesn't have the speed of a full glide. I'm also doing this with a 16lb stone instead of a shot because it's for the highland games. : / appreciate the videos bud!
how about using the word......"transition" ....instead of "land", perhaps that will make some of the naysayers happier? As far as the crazy comments regarding your instruction.......I'm wondering if these people are somewhat jealous of what you have managed to build over the years and are not trying to discredit you.......all I can say is, everything you present and the reasoning behind it make TOTAL sense to me...perhaps there are different ways of getting from point A to point B, but you are presenting a way that most novice throwers can follow and have the talent level to attempt......as throwers get more advanced they may want to try different techniques....especially if they feel as though they have peaked.....anyway, really enjoy your vids and the manner in which you present everything....Thanx!....also, my daughter broke her PR three times this indoor season so something you teach must working!!!!
Trevor Regay I like that. Transition. I don’t think it’s jealousy to be honest. I think it’s this “I know one tidbit of differing info so I’ll make a post” attitude social media has created. Taking one word that someone might not agree with and stretching it into an argument. Same when I say “push off the heel” in the glide. Them disagreeing with the word “push” turns into me being totally wrong, not knowing what I’m talking about, completely incorrect, etc. I find it pretty funny actually. And usually it’s men around the age of 50+ that have the issues. The old school crowd.
Donald Peacock Google. Depending what country you live in, your age, and your abilities, there may be throwing clubs in your area or track meets that come to your area. USATF website is a great place to start if you live in the US.

Absolutely. Let me know if you need help or if you have any video ideas.

Thanks again, Coach Matt. Exactly what I needed to work on.
Man I love that last drill!
Nice! This help a lot. Great drill
Do you have any real time videos of a athlete throwing a good technique glide
Check out Shot Put Devil on Instagram. David Storl. Great technique and one of the most successful gliders of the current elites.
