      Arete Throws Nation TV how much does your average athlete lift that can throw 40+ feet? Like bench or incline

    • @aretethrowsnation
      @aretethrowsnation  4 роки тому

      Ramon Torres really depends. But not that much. Even our guys that have throw 55’65 & 70 don’t have huge number but solid numbers.

      Arete Throws Nation TV it’s because I can get past 38 feet and I can bench 300 and incline 255 and leg press 650 for multiple reps and only weigh 185

      Ramon Torres that plenty strong to throw 40. Grab our mini course, a video analysis would be a great investment, become a member and throw much farther. 👊💪

    I wish I had this kind of instruction when I was throwing in HS. I basically learned everything I knew from my brother, he was a much better thrower than I was, but actually my main event was the high hurdles. I basically tried to follow in his footsteps and I didn't do that badly. Back in those days they rated you based on age and weight and then put you in either A, B or C class. It was a fair system that allowed lighter guys to compete against other likewise competitors. Due to my light weight and being the youngest person in my class, I was able to qualify for the B class in my senior year, which meant I could still throw the 10 lb shot. Nowadays I would have had to throw the 12 lb and that would have been ludicrous because I was a skinny 130 pounder back then. My young age at the time of qualifications saved my bacon. I managed to take second in the league finals in my Junior year, but if not for getting into trouble by spray painting bad words on the baseball diamond backstop, I may have taken the gold in my Senior year. A buddy of mine twisted my arm one night to help him do some spray painting because he hated his baseball coach, well, for that act I was kicked off the track team two weeks before the league finals. I wasn't that disappointed not competing in the shot put and discus, it was the high hurdles I really wanted badly and the loss of a couple more metals to pin on my school block letter jacket. Lesson learned. Looking back, my best virtue was speed so I wonder how I would have fared spinning instead of gliding?

      Johnny O hey thanks for sharing. Rotational definitely is an advantage. And what a bummer you got booted. The worst is wondering what you could have done🧐. All the best.

    Helpful info! I wish I had this instruction in high school. But, as a new coach for middle school, this will be helpful in teaching the new generation of throwers.

    Great video. I like how you addressed right arm possession for glide. Also, Have you ever done a video on the Left(off)-arm action from the power position to the delivery? I have read a few different articles over the years. Most them say to start to clear out with the left(off) arm before you start the right side drive/push. There are a lot of videos of how to use your left arm and the path it takes, but not when to start it in relationship to the rest of the throw. What are your thoughts?

      Eric Holmes eric that’s a great question. I just may need to answer that via video. Gimme a week or 2 and ill throw that up.

    I'm 130 lbs and trying to hurl a 12 pound shot over a distance of 40 feet. I can already do 25 with really poor technique, how long do you think I'll need to grind to achieve my goal assuming I'm very very regular and dedicated at what i do?
    I can bench my bodyweight btw, so in no sense do i lack the strength factor purely, i need to get a bit stronger but that's not the major reason why my throw is poor, it's the technique.
    But assuming i get my bench pr to 150 lbs in 4 months, can i get my technique to be at a level where i can reach my goal in a similae time duration?

    Most coaches recommend learning the glide as a prelude to the spin. That said, I question the elbow comment. I just looked at the best women in the world, who all glide, they hold the elbow high! The men, mostly spinners do also???

    • @aretethrowsnation
      @aretethrowsnation  5 років тому

      Bruce Boldenow look again. The elbow drops into the low position when they drive across the ring. That also allows for greater angle of release for glide vs rotational shot. and we advocate learning the glide first as well.

    All of the thing you teach not to do I do :( guess I have a lot of practice to do

  • @pixelman6451
    @pixelman6451 5 років тому +2

    The thing I'm worried about for this is that in the indoor Track and Field competitions I'm in, the officials don't allow the shot to go below your shoulder, if it does, then the throw is disqualified

    • @aretethrowsnation
      @aretethrowsnation  5 років тому

      Pixelman64 in the video I drop the shot more than in a real throw. Just generally had the arm position to indicate the Throwing positions but it would clearly be in the neck more than shown.

    All this time, I've been holding my elbow too high

    • @willowaII
      @willowaII 5 років тому

      I don't know, I've always coached the high elbow. Look at the world leaders in the women, who all glide. They all have the elbow high!!
