I have been in love with this guy's playing half my life. Virtuoso at his craft. I had to learn bass once I heard what can be done. Still play to this day- 25 years.
Every time I listen to "the lesson" I get goosebumps. It's not just a display of incredible skill and talent but it's a beautiful melody. Just so well put together and played by a master of his craft
if you are a bass player, i beg you to learn the main parts of this song. I have yet to unlock patterns and chords that felt so impossible at first, and soon developed to feel so amazing to play. the flow of these chord changes high up on the fretboard is like surfing a beautiful wave. do yourself a favor and pull up the tabs edit: update i can play the main riff plus the second descending chords and it's so dope. my pinky hurts tho
I watched the vid and was very impressed but it seemed out of reach for me as a beginner on bass, but 15 years in on guitar. I wouldn't have looked up the tabs without seeing how adamant you were with your suggestion so I did, and I've made some really fun variations of the first progression part already. Thank you very much for the suggestion on the tabs!
finally reached a point myself where I have began taking up learning this song and it's intense, even the simple parts utilize so much economy of motion
It's a great song to practice to, even if you can only get certain parts down. It really is a lesson in multiple areas I've found. Good for learning how to strum, getting comfortable with playing chords with more difficult fingering positioning, good for expanding your style in the area of minor chords and learning some of it's patterns, good for learning harmonics. Such an incredible piece on top of all of that
My goal in Life. Make a living doing something I love to do. Marry my crush(2% chance that it will come true). Meet Victor Wooten and Henrick Linder. Continue on Serving God.
The funny part is that he says to embrace the mistakes and is really open about making mistakes while playing especially live. Dude is humble and real.
Feels rushed... A great composition like this deserves patience and due attention. I would expect the composer himself to know this better than anyone.
Absolutely agree.. Also find the lower tempo much more enjoyable! You're talking about "Victor Wooten wows with his performance of The Lesson solo live on EMGtv" right ?

Since plays it differently every time, I'd say the lesson is play with feeling! So good.

Haven't watched Victor play in ages, this reminds me of what i've been missing! Will always be my favourite bass player!
One of my favourite pieces of music!! So so sweet!

This it the type of song that the more you think you mastered it, the more you will realize how far you really are from mastering it
No tabs use your ears and eyes
You have just seized the top spot on my list of bass melodies.
His spirit for music is like watching a child play with his favorite toy..love it

Nice to see that the God of bass is only human too and makes mistakes like we all do.

Awesome outstanding Bro classy player U have a great sound and style
6 people don't got no pocket
Victor Wooten doesn't need a band to fill a place with good music.
Another universe!!! ❤️🙏❤️🙏
Amazing... He's now my 2nd biggest influence on my bass playing. My number 1 is Jaco Pastorius.
大変参考になりました!!
maestro‼︎
O melhor desse vídeo é o sorriso do Wooten do início ao fim.

I'm thinking of buying one of those - that's why I'm here!

he makes playing seem so easy and effortless!
Almost like Virgil van Dijk makes defending
A lesson evidently :D
sweeeet

His mistakes sound better than my best playing
“There are no mistakes, only happy accidents”- Bob Ross
Cool
5 people have no mind
What's that that's beside him,..that looks like a bass and upright bass hybrid?
his greatest lesson to master the art of improvisation
Tomás Ávila it's different every time he plays it in subtle beautiful ways
flawless lesson from the master
this lesson is a really hard one to learn lol
Интересно! Кто мог поставить здесь дислайк?????

yapp yap yap
And it’s also up to the composer to play it at the speed he wants. He could play it at 300 bpm and he would still make it sound great
bad!! ou!!!!
Too sloppy for me to really enjoy. The studio version is the greatest.

If its too sloppy for you, then please post your video of how you it.
