Hippie Boho Pants from Thrift Store Upcycled into DIY Bib Overalls

A pair of boho hippie pants were given to me from a friend's thrift haul. In this video I repurpose these rather large pants into an upcycled pair of bib overalls and fix the hole in the butt. I show the creative process of using existing bibs as a pattern as well as referencing pictures from Pinterest to help in the design and transformation of these remade bibs.

Im so glad I found ur channel! U are adorable! I grew up with my mom and granny sewing everything and fixing things that I always feel guilty buying new things. Im just exploring ideas on upcycling my old clothes to make new things. Cuz Im very guilty of never throwing any piece of clothing away. I used to host clothing exchange parties with a friend of mine but u know life and pandemics have gotten in my way. Now I just want to make new things using my old clothes as a pattern. I prefer sewing without strict rules cuz honestly i cant do tht very well and if its too many steps I will end up stopping and adding it to my giant pile of projects tht will never get done! ADHD with a sprinkle of autism will make everything a challenge!
I also have several very old quilts that need to be fixed or repurposed! And i see u have ideas for tht too!
Btw I love ur love for ur doggo! I have 3 chihuahua rescues and they are my world! (Which i want to make shirts and collars for them too with my old clothes!) i have so many ideas and no executive function to implement them! Anyways…..thank u for inspiring me

Love them, I’ve just made myself some using a pair of dungarees (bibs) I have for the pattern, I up cycled a hand printed Indian cotton throw I found in a charity shop (thrift store)

I stumbled across your video while looking for ways to alter my mccalls 7598 pattern into more of what you are wearing. I'm so glad I did! Those pants are stunning, I would absolutely wear them too! I live for upcycling old things. Usually blankets and curtains into new clothes or fabric that is donated to me. Right now I'm turning my sisters old cute scrubs into toddler dresses. I have so much lefover pretty chiffon fabric from old cloths, i would love to do something with them, but its very thin and see through, and as a beginner i find chiffon really hard to see.
What do you think? Any ideas, tips and tricks on chiffon?
Norah! Great name (my daughter's name as well)! Chiffon is so dang slippery, but I really like using those kinds of fabrics in crazy quilts or decorative pillows. I'll think about some more ideas too... hmmmm...

I did take home-ec in junior high school many years ago, but all I really made from that is a wonky apron (which I still have, btw). Mostly I've learned by trial and error. 😏 Maybe I will do a video about my wonky apron and my sewing journey. 🤔. Thanks for the idea!
I did home Ec as well. Took sewing 1 & 2 in HS. Learned from my late Mom. (My mom sewed for 6 little girls!!! 1st day of school and the holidays). No idea how she found the time

And popular, lots of great comments, too many for me to get through to see if you answered this question… although I am in my early 50’s… I am not a seamstress of any kind… do I need a surger? What other options are there with an old machine?

Hi! We are the same age. ☺️ Sergers are totally optional and you can get a similar stitch on your regular sewing machine. Set it to zigzag with a wide stitch and then make the stitch length very short. You can then sew along the edge of the seam, letting the right side of the stitch go just over the edge. It will cover the seam very nicely and do a pretty good job of keeping the frayed edge clean. I suggest experimenting on scrap fabric first, until you get the look you want. Eventually, you can get a serger if you’d like. Mine is a basic Singer serger, I think it was $200 - you can check the video description for a link to the exact model. The advantage to a serger is that it’s the quickest and neatest way to finish seams. Plus it has a knife that can cut as you sew. But, kinda fancy and totally optional. Hope that helps!
