The Silence of the Lambs Trailer - Directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Anthony Heald, Ted Levine, Frankie Faison. FBI trainee Clarice Starling ventures into a maximum-security asylum to pick the diseased brain of Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist turned homicidal cannibal. Starling needs clues to help her capture a serial killer. Unfortunately, her Faustian relationship with Lecter soon leads to his escape, and now two deranged killers are on the loose.

Nor inside his belly.
Hannibal Lecter is so talkative that he quickly becomes boring and soporific indeed!
Well, I wasn't able to avoid that as a spectator😅
Even Batman understands this when warning Robin about Hugo Strange.
“Strange may be a madman, but he's also a brilliant psychiatrist. If he finds an opening, he'll mess with your head.”

@@lordthemaster8593 I know I'm part of minority about this film. And I don't care about that. I'm not at all a fan of this film! Pure counter psychology.

Thank God she never got to shoot Hannibal, it was an awful film. It was not a matter of time. She read the script and turned it down cause she knew it was crap.
Foster didn't want to do the part, honestly I don't blame her.

Hannibal was abysmal and over the top silly - she made the right move, didn't care about the paycheck.
Hannibal was abysmal and over the top silly - she made the right move, didn't care about the paycheck.
This movie is a cinematic horror thriller masterpiece! I own the deluxe DVD - making of... and all the extras. Little known fact that originally Gene Hackman owned the rights to the script, and was originally set to play Lechter. But he backed out. This movie is in my top 5 of all time! A movie of this quality comes around maybe once every 20 years at best. The way they break the 4th wall and look and speak right into the camera is genius. The twists. The pacing, the back and forth surprise ending with Buffalo Bill... all superb. Everything about this movie is world's beyond any movie in this genre. I was in college when it came to theaters, I saw it then, and nothing has come close since. Anthony Hopkins is PERFECT in this role. There is a reason it won the Oscars for Best Actor, Actress, Film, and Director.

Winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture (Produced by: Edward Saxon, R.I.P. The Late Kenneth Utt, and Ron Bozman), Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins as. Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter), Best Actress (Jodie Foster as. Clarice Starling), Best Director (Jonathan Demme of "Beloved", "The Truth About Charlie", and "Philadelphia".), and Best Adapted Screenplay (based on the book by Thomas Harris).
I'm watching this movie right now
Ted Levine (buffalo bill)should've been nominated also.
This masterpiece just turned 30. I wasn't even born when it was released. But it's in my top ten favourites.
So overrated yet!
To your point, people do need to appreciate Manhunter more. What Michael Mann did with that makes Demme’s efforts here seem excessive, dare I say contrived. Very enjoyable, but MH is a more subtle, realistic, calmer and therefore more creepy experience.
Read on imdb: Sir. Hopkins thought he was up for a kid's movie when he received the script and saw the title. 😅
This movie won all the top awards. Best picture, best director, best actress, best screen play..... It's one of the three movies to have won the royal flush. Five Oscars. RIP Jonathan Demmy

Thank you for mentioned Demme. Everyone always seems to put all the success and brilliance of *silence* onto the actors, I've even had some say that Demme simply didn't deserve his Oscar because his movie would have flopped if not for Hopkins' performance. Demme played a big part in Silence, to the point of re-designing entire scenes and how they were shot around his actors strengths. I'd never diminish the role of this amazing cast, but I feel it's equally an injustice to ignore the other geniuses who made this film work, and one of them is Demme.

I really felt hannibal's presence throughout the movie
Jodie Foster claims that during the first meeting between Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling, Sir Anthony Hopkins's mocking of her southern accent was improvised on the spot. Foster's horrified reaction was genuine since she felt personally attacked. She later thanked Hopkins for generating such an honest reaction.
In preparation for his role, Sir Anthony Hopkins studied files of serial killers. Also, he visited prisons, and studied convicted murderers, and was present during some court hearings concerning gruesome murderers and serial killings.
When characters are talking to Starling (Jodie Foster), they often talk directly to the camera. When she is talking to them, she is always looking slightly off-camera. Director Jonathan Demme has explained that this was done so as the audience would directly experience her point-of-view, but not theirs, hence encouraging the audience to more readily identify with her.
The real-life FBI's Behavioral Science Unit assisted in the making of this movie.

It seems that Jonathan Demme really knows how to get the best performance out of actors. He directed this, where both Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins won Academy Awards in Best Leading Acting categories and he also directed Philadelphia, which won Tom Hanks his first out of 2 Academy Awards for Best Leading Actor in a row (and I am not surprised, Tom Hanks was fantastic!).

If your thirst for Hannibal media is not yet sated, I would recommend the Hannibal tv series starring Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal.
