Join Master-Drummer Virgil Donati as he explains and explores his advanced system for developing Rhythmic Facility. In this new course, Virgil offers an in-depth analysis of how a dot affects the value of a note as well as the way it forms the groundwork for understanding more complex polyrhythms and how it can be used to create syncopated, hypnotic rhythms.

Virgil’s drumming has arguably been at the leading edge for many decades, with his accomplished compositional and orchestration skills also gaining recognition. Never one to seek approval or security, he has maintained an introspective, independent mind, transcending traditional boundaries, always alert to the possibilities beyond the norm.
At the age of 16, Virgil turned pro to enable him to tour and focus on music, and he has since devoted his whole life to his art. The motivation has been his endless and restless pursuit to express himself through his playing.
During his formal years in his homeland Australia, he carved a path in the pop-rock scene culminating in multi platinum success with his band Southern Sons, at the same time pushing progressive and fusion boundaries with Loose Change, and On The Virg.
He has recorded and toured with the likes of Planet X, Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Tony MacAlpine, Kiko Loureiro, Bunny Brunel, Scott Henderson, Steve Walsh, and the Virgil Donati Band, amongst many others.

The best Drummer alive in the world....We have a lot of great drummers....But Virgil Donati is another level
👍👍👍
SO TRUE THAT IS MY REAL HARDCORE INSPIRATION
Agreed. 16 hours a day is what I heard...😑
Marco is a monster too but Virgil is such a great clinician.
YES !
Virgil's expression here shows that if you want to nail anything you have to remain focused
The feel that virgil has on the kit is unparalleled by anyone alive 2021 that I've seen. His name should be midas.
I've been a massive Virgil fan since I was around 16 years old. I'm now 37. He has just got better and better. I wish he was my dad. What a wonderful human being. I thank God for him. Love you Virg. Matt from Australia
I've been studying him for about 12 years now. I'm 70.
Your poor dad
Mr. Virgil Donati is uniquely one of a kind and an exceptional drum maestro. I saw him in performance with bassist Bunny Brunel in the nineties along with guitarist Tony MacAlpine. Absolutely outstanding.
Master drumming
Always the best sounding kit
GREAT VIRGIL!!!!
I've already started the course and I'm loving it! It has been a great challenge and a huge learning and evolution! Thanks Virgil and Drumchannel 👏🙌🔥🥁
We're glad you're enjoying it! We're working on a second course with Virgil coming later this summer, stay tuned.
Awesome routines with incredible independences !!! Thanks @virgildonatti !
One of my favourites drummers. Very interesting issue.
The Professor!!!!
This Guy is fantástic. Best drummer in the history of músic. ALL the time creating a New forms of music on the drums
This is pure gold!!! Let’s try it!!
Virgil = god of possibilities of rhythms and limbs.....
That thunderous bassdrum!!!
The sound of that snare! Yummy!
Love it!!
Love that Virgil. Just listen to that snare drum. "Craaaak". What a tone!
Virgil's a beast. I attended a clinic of his once at the former West Coast Drum Center. He started the clinic with what must've been a 20 minute solo of huge impressive chops, and then handed out worksheets to everyone in attendance as he taught some kind of obscure polyrhythm thing. It's cool to see stuff like that performed, but it really doesn't have a whole lot of musical relevance...not to me anyway. I've gotten a lot more out of other clinics, Stanton Moore being my favorite.
Check out this clip with Virgil and a few friends doing Stormbringer: ua-cam.com/video/Xm6k-iHH-L0/v-deo.html
Virgil donati super drummer

This dude can split an atom…
That's cool!😁
That snare sounds killer!

Bravissimo..Vanni
so whats your favorite project of virgil, planet X is my favorite and first time heard him
Thank you very much
Pure Excellence.
Uuuughh the sounds!!!!!!😮🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A superb lesson. Totally inspiring...but requiring years of practice to master like Virgil. The bar has been set!
And Drum Channel... I don, t know if you guys have the great Travis Orbin in your team, but he deserves more credits/recognition in the general drumming world, my 2 cents though...
Ideal para tocar una buena chacarera

Virgil and now without the cap
So cool. Virgil is a legend. Does the course have the drum notation that is downloadable? Keep up the great work.
We do! The course has a downloadable PDF workbook, along with on-screen transcriptions for all exercises, on our proprietary Drum Channel player. It makes learning new patterns super easy.
@@drumchannel thanks very much. I will check this out.
@@drumchannel Might have to check it out.
Virgil Donati, Marco Minnemann, Terry Bozzio, Thomas Lang, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Mike Mangini, Claus Hessler, Matt Garstka, and Horacio Hernandez collectively have all polyrhythm and polymeter playing mastered on the drumset.
Think a few of those guys might have mastered it individually. All fantastic drummers
If you have the opportunity please check his work on the pre 2005 albums on the band Ring of Fire, it's amazing and so unique
cool
👌
Now I know what a dotted 8th note is but don't ask me to play that!
Virgil=Focus personified
💪🥁
Been trying to work out what 'planet' Virgil's from. Bloody hell, we're only human...
and this is good for?
The monster himself
Someone call Area 51 and tell them they have an escaped alien doing a drum course at Drum Channel!
Corny
more silple more true
So one dotted eighth note equals 3 sixteenth? Or one measure of dotted eighth notes equals 3 sixteenth?
1 dotted 8th = 3 16ths
@@EliPoli64 thanks man!
"I am going to show you basic equations for your mathematics exam. It goes something like this:"
*demonstrates string theory
Sick brain (...)
what is this wizardry
Tell me who gets to dance with this guy playing...
I mean it sounds like 16th note triplets to me.
You're brilliant, but I ended up with mild concussion after watching this.
and then you have Ringo and Charlie Watts doing what they do and earning millions while Donati is doing his head in counting numbers.
Ask Ringo or Charlie what Virgil is talking about...hes on another level and needs to be recognised a lot more
My calculator blew up and cried 30 seconds in
Even knowing what a dotted eight is i have trouble to figure out what he is trying to teach here. Despite liking Virgil i would not recommend this for any newbie trying to actually learn.
Sadly drum machine’s have taken the bulk of all basic records work,up.Most of the drummers left are chops guys
way too advanced for me] Have no idea what he's dong here. Sorry.
If this is supposed to motivate me to pay for a course, it is having the opposite effect.
I'm not a great musician, but I've been playing to a metronome for decades. This is the worst presentation and explanation I've seen outside of "gospel chops" videos where they just show off, play fast, and explain nothing.
Such an unfortunately hardcore lisp, I mean jesus christ.
And?
