This is one of the greatest adventures they had. The boulder field nightmare and James and Jeremey falling out trying to put the tents up was great TV. Also Jeremy deciding he’s had enough and just gunning it through the ice blocks with the inevitable breaking of the truck. “POWER!!” Haha.
The best special in my opinion because it's a challenge that was just so absurd and hasn't been topped. It was the most dangerous and can you imagine Wilman pitching it to the BBC, he must have been staggered when they said yes. It was topical (for the time) and the full version at least with the crashed plane and abandoned outpost did more for their exploration badges than the Africa Special ever did. Plus, it was real, there's no doubt about that.
Yep. Getting stuck in the boulder field and James and Jeremy falling out trying to get the tents set up in the storm was great TV. Plus what they asked Richard to do was insane. Never skied before, zero experience, out there all day in the cold. Genuinely impressive. Would love to have seen them putting James on the sled instead.
HAHAHAHA you've got Gin! I have! And because we're in international waters theres no drink driving laws Exactly! Got any Ice? James internally: Is this dude for real? Thats a stupid question isnt it...
They said in an interview later that it was never close, from the moment they left Hammond fell hours behind, they ended up picking hammond up later because it was pointless to allow him to continue for hours. Also they didn't actually get to the pole, where they ended up was something like 1200km away from the geographical north pole and 150 miles away from the magnetic north pole, poor hammond couldn't carry on so a helicopter was sent to just pick them all up and end the show, loved the episode though, especially clarkson getting thrown in the ice by the pixilated special forces man, clarksons "How dare you" while hammond and may looked horrified was legit funny as f**k!
I always wondered what happened to Hammond and assumed he was picked up or helicoptered out. Surprised to hear that they didn’t drive to the actual pole though.
@MrBrownie77 I was surprised when I heard them talking about it, but I wasn't disappointed, it was all still very entertaining but if you pop in "polar special" on Google you'll find the trivia/facts about the show and interviews about what happened
Glad these guys were in my living room over the years, and still follow 2 of them on their own channels now (1 i like, but it’s mainly others in every video so bored quickly)
Hammond may have lost but he went through significantly more shit (figuratively and literally) than Clarkson and May and that deserves huge respect in and of itself.
What else should James have included in his bag of treats?
A Playstation 2! Oh wait, That's known to be inside the truck for when they get bored!
A spear
diaper cream
A an axe
Some cold beer
everybody say happy birthday Richard Hammond
@@Faith01841 Rimac moment
Happy birthday Hammond Richard
Hap birtday Hammond (as jeremy would put it "you blithering idoit")
happy birthday hampster
Happy birthday:)

Clarkson: "You've brought a tin of spam."
May: "Yes."
No more need be said.

"Contains discriminatory language." I wouldn't want to be called an Icelandic mechanic either.
3:10 "Forge a career as the world's worst explorers." I'd say they definitely ended up doing that.
James May is the first person in the North Pole who didn't want to be there. (by JC)
Everybody! Hammond turns 39 today!
I haven't had my teeth whitened and I don't dye my hair
Do you have any ice?
😎🤨💬
By far the best special
03:18 the origin of James May Gin
HAHAHAHA you've got Gin!
I have!
And because we're in international waters theres no drink driving laws
Exactly!
Got any Ice?
James internally: Is this dude for real?
Thats a stupid question isnt it...
They started in Canada.
Minimum penalty: $1,000 fine
Maximum penalty: 10 years in Canadian jail
Definitely not International Waters LOL
1:00 great subtitles
Dukes hazard sound effects version
Funny thing, the magnetic North Pole is beneath the ocean currently
To be continued I assume? I mean Jeremy and James haven’t got to the biggest obstacle yet so I imagine so
One of the best TG specials! I especially liked Jeremy getting pushed into the icy water. 😆😆❤❤
"Contains discriminatory language"
Hahahaha what?
1:05 James May says “Pikey”. A slur for travelers/gypsies in Ireland/UK.
@@J3TF1RE- Yes indeedy. Still, at least they got 'included' in the programme.😁 That's gotta tick a few more boxes, right? Minority, diversity...
Most of that ice is probably gone 😮
You should upload the training session with Jezza being thrown into the freezing water.
Happy birthday Hammond!
So what did the camera crew drive?
A similarly modified Toyota Hilux according to James. He used it to drive up a volcano in another challenge
The warning is for James calling Jeremy a pikey
Yep. It carries the same 'ouch' factor in the UK/Ireland as the 'n' word [nibble] does in the States, but contains even more contempt and h8.

They never left Canadian territory.
That means for the G&Ts drunk by Jeremy, he would’ve either got a $1,000 fine or 10 years in Canadian jail.

@@MrBrownie77the actual pole is beneath the open ocean, so that might’ve been tough

Why so short
hammond
James May the only man to go to the North Pole and does not want to be there.
6:20 “That one’s called Big.”
It’s actually called Mr Big.
I thought I can watch a marathon but then I saw that this vid got uploadod an hour ago
cool
Thanks for the language warning, would have had to take my calming meds if there wasn't one...
the best race. sadly they all hate it
The discriminatory language warning is a nice addition, as the show is unfortunately rather dated by modern standards
It's not a nice addition, its pathetic.
