- At NAVDEX 2019, MBDA unveiled the SPIMM (Self-Protection Integrated Mistral Module), an all-in-one air defence module based on the SIMBAD-RC system and designed to equip ships of all types, particularly those without a combat system (such as supply ships or even landing craft).

like the idea of an add on system like this. a passive ir/thermal air surveillance suite in a 10/10 shelter with two operators and a twin mistral 3 missile simbad rc unit to be used within an umbrella of dedicated air defence systems so it adds to, not take away from the overall defensive shield, just the job. with effective data link information transfer the missiles can intercept the hypersonic anti-ship missiles at a safe distance in a head on attack. the only two missile problem is got around by it being part of an umbrella defence (only an idiot would think it operates alone)so other assets would form the backbone of the defence network. can see this put onto auxiliary ships and troop ships when deployed within an amphibious task force fleet.

The idea in Spain is using a CIWS named CIWS TAO from Escribano that combines this system from MBDA with Mistral 3 with a multitude system.
All that bulky stuff for just two missiles on the ready? Why the heck can't they put more like the Russians? They used to have the Tetral (4 missiles) and the Sadral (6 missiles), what happened to those?
it depend on users budget, the ideal platform for 2, 4 or sadral is FAC, OPV or Corvette ships, i guess
This should be mounted on Offshore patrol craft ships. Like the River class in RN service and other OPC like the RAN and RNZN along. Doing more with less with these class of ships.
This weapon system can be installed in almost any naval surface platform.
damn, thats a good idea for anti-piracy. plenti of space on civilian ships and just need 2 operators each shift. thats way less than they do now on the machine guns. plus, no modifications on the ship, all modular. insurance companies gonna be mad as hell

this is good to have a strong deterrence from any incoming missile or threats but what if enemy side will fire 10 missiles at the same time? how that simbad handle since they have only two missile ready to rumble... the company of simbad will look at the kind of scenario.. like it can cater at least that possible threats.
Sadral is the 6 round launcher which is a more dedicated CIWS mount. The 2 round launchers appear to suppliment

So true. The French go through the trouble of developping an interesting system only to ruin things by having it launching just two missiles. I really don't get it. A total of eight Mistral missiles should be the minimum to make it noteworthy.

There is two options x2 or x6 On the LCHD and large ship of the French Navy they often have a combination of two units of x6

The mistral 3 is the best shoulder launched missile no doubt and one of the faster real velocity not only on paper but i think MBDA can push the Mistral above 10km and a 25 to 30.000/ft for the imperial men or 9.000/meters in altitude i hope they will make this capability in the Simbad RC 10 to 12km so will compete and won the RIM - 116 for better value and faster engagement

Mistral 3 is the best portable missile in the world right now but they should increase the range to 10km and 1 more kilo in the warhead and the mistral ng should became the most desired system

There is the 6 round Sadral CIWS version ;) its very fast to reload compared to the 5 mins it takes with Phalanx

You need to make hypersonic missiles now ,it's the future
Only 2 missiles on the launcher and 4 more on the storage compartment, they also look like they have to be manually replaced there is no automatic reloading mechanism on sight.
This looks ok for giving some Non-Combatant ships a small measure of air defense but it really can't compete with any established CIWS systems.
Na ciws also is not that good against asm and airplanes. It may be better against asm but not as good against aircraft range wise
