    Yes, I'm still alive!
Usually, I've been able to put out videos every 3-6 weeks, but my creative process has become more bogged down overtime. The more time I spend on audio, editing, and writing has been improving the videos overall, but it's been constantly adding more steps and hoops that I have to jump through, especially with these more lengthy videos. Despite this, I'd rather put out an amazing full length video, rather than splitting it up into parts, or make some other kind of videos that would involve less work. I've been sacrificing consistency, but once they are finally released and on my channel, they will be available to everyone to watch, whenever they want to, forever! Because of this, I'd rather spend the extra time to make my videos as good as they can be. I know it might be disappointing to have to wait almost two months for a new video, but that's just the reality of the situation. I have a full time job working 40 hours a week, I only have a couple of hours of free time on the weekdays, and there isn't really much flexibility in my schedule to spend time making videos.
Since it takes me such a long time to make videos, The best way to keep yourself updated would be to follow my twitter for updates, or by just subscribing to my UA-cam channel. I don't like plugging garbage like that in my videos, so that's why I've posting this instead.
    Twitter: twitter.com/HyperCharge_Sam?lang=en
I got some fun videos in the works, so until those come out, thanks for watching!

Hey Sam! I've been watching your videos for quite some time now, you might have seen me around your comment sections already (maybe, who knows). Your channel is one of my favorite channels to binge watch (if not my actual favorite). Your content is really well made, incredibly fun and relatable (even when I disagree with you to a certain degree on some topics), and you really deserve way more attention and subscribers than you already have. At the same time, I really appreciate the way the low-key community is around here and discuss these topics, and how much thought and care you put on your videos. I really, really appreciate your work and understand the exact circumstances! Keep it up, my man! Looking forward to the next videos! Much love and appreciation from Brazil!
PS: If you ever start a Patreon and stuff in a possible future, I'd totally support you instantly, and I don't even use Patreon at all.

I started watching your videos only a few weeks ago after I beat Skyward Sword and was fucking pissed. I agree with most of your opinions and I love how your reviews are super honest with minimal filter. I've watched pretty much all of your videos, but I was just wondering if you were going to an Uncivil Synopsis of BOTW? I know you touched upon it in your Zelda Retrospective, but a full vid would be sick! I know you're busy, but something I thought i'd recommend. Keep up the good work, cheers!

I got my Nintendo Wii for Christmas after experiencing the glorious game that is Super Mario Galaxy at my friend's house. The fact that you could have Mario jump around in outer space was soo revolutionary at the time. The motion controls were just a bonus for me.
And then Mario Kart Wii comes around and my first online multiplayer experience couldn't have been better.
And then Brawl. Holy shit. I was so excited to play this that me and my friend went to Gamestop on day one to experience it. Then on that same day I got the game myself at Walmart.
And then Animal Crossing City Folk. I've never experienced voice chat in my life or any other AC title, and at the time, I had some online friends who also wanted City Folk. Wii Speak was an amazing start despite voice chat already being on the 360 and PS3. Plus nowhere near as toxic.
And then The Conduit and Conduit 2. Not as great, but these games finally got me into the shooter genre despite not liking them before.
And then Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes around and holy fucking shit I've never been more excited for a game in my life.
Skyward Sword was just... average for me.
Then afterward...the system just kind of died.
To me the Wii was worth the purchase for these games alone and the hype surrounding them. Looking back now, however, it was very underpowered compared to its contemporaries.

@@jamieryan6991 I disagree. As a GC fan and a Wii fan, the Wii's library of gems is at least double that of GC's. I love several of the GC titles, but I find Wii's selection to be more extensive, diverse, intuitive, and challenging.

Your experience getting the Wii was like mine with the Switch. I go to a private school and it was impossible to get a switch. I had gone to many stores trying to find one because I had saved up enough money. And there was a big amount of people at my school that just casually got a switch and I was ticked.

    • @HyperCharge
      @HyperCharge  7 років тому +17

Imagine wanting to get the Switch to play Breath of the Wild, but everyone else who bought the Switch was saying how 1-2 Switch was the best game they were playing on it. That basically sums up what my experience with the Wii was like.

Now that you mention it, I had a similar experience getting a Switch like you did. The only difference is that the Switch was actually available in EVERY game store where I live but I didn't have the money. It was baffling to see all these people that got a switch, saying how awesome it was.

I like to call this the first part of two of the "Gray-White Era of Nintendo". The Grey-White Era of Nintendo is characterised by the company having a grey logo on a white background. This also carried into the Wii U, which comprises the second part of two of the Grey-White Era of Nintendo. We have since then quit this era, since Nintendo has gone back to their traditional White-Red logo, and with games like Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Metroid: Samus Returns, and upcoming games like Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and a new Metroid Prime game, we're already seeing a huge departure from the Grey-White Era of Nintendo.

About a week or so ago I picked up an original model Wii off eBay for 35 bucks. Mostly playing GameCube games, but this was a good console.
Definitely going to pick up some more Wii games. I had one of these when they first came out, but other than Smash Brawl I didn't play it a whole lot because it was in the living room and my family would never get into video games, not even the casual BS that most hardcore gamers hate. So I sold it and got a PS3 instead.

DKC Returns is a really great game. The "gray DK mode" doesn't scratch it a bit. Almost no one uses that thing.
Also, Galaxy 2 is indeed different from 1. At least for me. It's mechanically unique and more inventive in its level design. The atmosphere is also toned down. It's a different experience.

There was something about Wii Sports that made it as addictive as crack when it came out. I felt like they just kept trying to recreate it after launch, but every single one they made after was just terrible. Wii Sports is a game that I still don't understand today. It's not something I'd ever go back and play again, but at the time I actually had a ton of fun with it. It got me to a buy a Wii earlier than I thought. Usually I just wait for a Mario Kart game because then I know there's 1 quality entry on the system. But yeah I agree, growing up with the Gamecube, there just felt like nothing past 2008 on the Wii that was worthwhile.

I still own my Wii. At the time before I got it my sister moved out of the house. Taking our GameCube with her. I still had my own GameCube games laying about. Not wanting to sell my games or go out and buy another GameCube. I decided to get a Wii due to the fact that not only was it the newest Nintendo console, but more importantly it was backwards compatible. I loved growing up playing the GameCube. Majority of my time with my Wii, it always had memory cards and a GC controller plugged in. Eventually I slowly picked up more Wii games. Been collecting Wii games to this day. Also put on a nice Decalgirl skin to keep it looking nice and put the Homebrew channel on mine. Hello emulators!

My favorite game on the Wii by far was Xenoblade Chronicles - and that came out at about the same time as Skyward Sword, 2011
Xenoblade Chronicles is now considered a classic - THE iconic new JRPG of the Wii
I guess it counts as a 3rd party game though rather than Nintendo - sure, they own Monolith Soft and the Xenoblade franchise NOW, but not back then

I had a GC when it came out and loved it. It was an awesome party console and to have a couple of Wiis with most of the GC library is so awesome because it has so many awesome games. Even the Wii has a great library of stellar games that will keep me busy for a long time. Yeah it had a ton of shovelware games, but if you ignore those it still has a pretty impressive library.

The Wii was an interesting system, but Nintendo ultimately screwed it up like you said. It might have been a smashing success, but it was a one time lighting in a bottle instance. Wii U proved that. I had a Wii when it came out and I had some games that I loved playing on it. But by 2010 I was done with it. Sold it and my games to get a PS3.
I did buy a used Wii a while back to play some old games because I was nostalgic. But I was mainly nostalgic for Gamecube games and figured I'd get a couple wii games.

I think the wii's problem was that Nintendo litteraly changed their plans because of the gamecube's failure similar with the wii u at least we still see old nintnedo on the switch but its small probably because Iwata isnt here anymore sadly he was a great video game developper, an okay video game developper cause it was his fault if the wii u was lackluster along with Reggie but he was most of all a wonderful gamer and someone who gave us nostalgia even though destroying Nintendo's old reputation with his beliefs

What I don't get is that it's totally possible to make challenging games that both kids and adult will enjoy. I grew up with SMW and it took me some years to complete it, but it was perfect because games were so expensive that you wanted to spend as much time as possible on a game. I don't get why games need to be stupidly easy because kids ain't stupid, they need challenging games with a good learning curve. That's why some SNES games were amazing, they were challenging with a good learning curve (Mario RPG, SMW, A link to the past, Super Mario Kart, DKC, etc...)

Gotta say I've had a completely different experience with the Wii, but maybe it is because I got it on 2017 with every game at my disposal.
Nintendo's best as far as whst I've played: Mario Galaxy, Both Wii Sports games, DKR, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Mario Kart and Brawl (which I love o so much) and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, which for many is the best Fire Emblem Game.
There are also some awesome third parties like Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Madworld and the No More Heroes games, the best version of Resident Evil 4 thanks to the pointer, Dead Space Extraction (which really surprised me because I was never into rail shooters. But this game, I just couldn't get myself to put it down).
That's what I've played so far. If anything, I think the Wii may have a library almost as good as any PS system, but with the difference tjat in this case it was the shovelware that got marketed the most, making the good games more of an obscure thing and harder to find.

Super Paper Mario was amazing. It had plenty of what made the first two great and honestly the gameplay was still really fun and well thought out. There are some fans who didn't like Galaxy for not being open world like the first two as well but I think it's amazing despite its differences as well.
I don't think the comparison is very good since Super Mario Galaxy is both very different from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Like that game though Super Paper Mario is also very similar to the first two games despite its differences so honestly Super Paper Mario is just as much a mainline Paper Mario game as Super Mario Galaxy is.
It's still an RPG game it just lacks a turn based battle systems. I don't think its differences outweight its core nature of being a Paper Mario game and it feels fun, unique, and fresh for what it is. I think your stance on that game is overly harsh and also not very reasonable given the only thing missing is the turn based battle system.
But, that's not what made it Paper Mario. That's a very fun gameplay aspect but it's not needed for every installment. For Super which was going to just be a one time deviation it does a good job blending RPG and platforming elements together and honestly had really fun platforming and character gameplay, great level design (for the most part), intuitive and fun puzzle solving with the pixels, and a storyline and cast of characters that are very endearing and emotionally charged.
I think it very much deserves to be considered a true Paper Mario game as much as the first two and I never had a problem with it being different in gameplay because everything felt like it belonged to the same series. You don't need the turn based battle system for it to be a good Paper Mario RPG game, and the title Super Paper Mario definitely lets you know it's going to be a hybrid between traditional and role playing Mario games.

I’ve always thought that Super Paper Mario felt like a cheap flash game. The art style is very simplistic and jagged, unlike the older games’ art styles which felt a lot more in line with the Mario universe and felt perfect for the direction the games took. The enemies felt like generic boring ass flash game enemies and the progression system wasn’t good either. I think if they wanted to make a blend of RPG and platforming, they could’ve tried a lot harder. As an RPG, there’s essentially nothing there. It’s a ton of mindlessly stomping on enemies and shaking the Wii remote to change a number you have no control over. And the platforming felt so cheap, it’s hard to believe I was playing a Mario game. The level design isn’t anywhere near good in my eyes; it’s a ton of bland, labyrinthine hallways devoid of interesting content. It’s all cookie cutter, it’s super boring, and it’s not fun to go through. Nothing interesting ever happens. And if it does, it’s usually for the worse. People tend to say that Super is still really good because of the plot, but idk. I feel like if they wanted me to believe that, they’d have to give me a game that actually supports its story through the gameplay substantially. I’m playing a video game, after all; I want the gameplay to be enjoyable.

Working on a pretty lengthy video. There's been a huge delay, mostly because I ended up dropping a video in October, which ended up wasting around a month. This next video I'm working on is also around 2 times longer than I anticipated and the holidays killed a lot of my free time. So, the timing and the circumstances really kind of screwed everything. I'm planning on having it out sometime by the end of January, but honestly, first week of February is a bit more realistic.

      @HyperCharge  7 років тому +1

While that's true, I think Nintendo would consider the Wii version to be the best one. If Nintendo were huge dicks, they could have just made it exclusive to the Wii, but since it was marketed to be on the Gamecube, they put it out to not piss off fans who bought the Gamecube for it. It's the same situation with Breath of the Wild as well.

You neglected to mention Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, which depending on your perspective can fit into your conspiracy. See, Radiant Dawn was a very stripped down Fire Emblem game. Radiant Dawn has a huge character tree that explains every character's relationship to other characters. The character tree makes a lot of sense given that Radiant Dawn is basically the first Fire Emblem sequel where characters carry over into the next installment since the 1980s' and even the one back then didn't really make a lot of callback to the old one or connect them too heavily. With its huge cast of characters and greater emphasis on geopolitics than ever before it makes the character tree a completely reasonable inclusion. On its own the character tree could've been dismissed as a completely reasonable inclusion on its own. However, alongside of that Radiant Dawn removes a lot of the base difficulty, funneling you with a lot of OP characters at the very beginning (typically characters from Path of Radiance), giving you these ridiculous skillsets, and just overwhelming you with the sheer amount of playable characters in case you lose some in a mission. Radiant Dawn also adds in save points in the middle of levels which is basically heresy for Fire Emblem. There were some other affronts that could be argued one way or another, such as the support system, but Radiant Dawn definitely fits into your theory about the dumbing down of Nintendo IPs.
That said, I have some other disagreements. I never played Animal Crossing: Wild World so City Folk wasn't disappointing but I can see how it was for anybody who did play WW. I'm not sure if multiplayer was new to City Folk or was introduced in Wild World but that was certainly a step in the right direction - just one that unfortunately was sabotaged by Nintendo's paranoid fear of online play. Also Kirby's Epic Yarn was excellent, fight me! The challenge in it wasn't in not dying but in fulfilling the highest score in the collectathon, not unlike replaying levels in Sonic games for the most amount of rings you can get. If you play it like that it can actually be quite challenging.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the lack of third party support. One of the big things that drove away core gamers from the Nintendo Wii and kept a lot of us away from the Wii U was the fact that the Wii basically lost all third party support. Towards the end of the console's lifespan we were getting cut rate games like The Conduit but there were very few games good or even great third party games. It was just a tide of shovelware. This ran completely counter to what one found playing the Gamecube, where there were plenty of excellent third party games throughout the entire lifespan of the console.

I am a average nintendo fan only cause of the limitation of money and the chose my older brothers make on the next big console jump it's pretty sad witnessing great games such as super mario galaxy a decade later and even with the idea of me being the only person who even cares about the next AAA nintendo game in my family. I have to live upon the struggle of spending all my savings on consoles / games even tho I only am allowed to get 20$ every 3 weeks. After all of that you would think I could then get the console but no! I have to then beg my rude and annoying brother to purchase it online with the exception that I'm offering him the right amount needed. Maybe I'm not alone, but God is it hard to be a Nintendo fan in my position. Did I also mention that my parents don't even respect that you can't get money scammed but only products.😩 I honestly can't wait till I get a job. *Someone please help me get a fricken nintendo switch I'm dying hearing youtubers brag about how fun the experience is.*

I played a few gamecube and n64 games when I was really young but most of my time was spent on the wii. Brawl is still my favorite smash game. Galaxy 2 was great. Sluggers was great but that's mostly nostalgia. Super Paper Mario I remember being awesome but I never have played any other paper mario so I can't say much on that. I think nintendo failing with the wii u is what needed to happen because now for the switch we are getting games on par with the stuff we got during the gamecube era. Breath Of The Wild is a masterpiece. Odyssey is a masterpiece. Dread is a masterpiece. Sure we still get stuff like Mario U deluxe but it's mostly even with brand new amazing titles. I consider myself a hardcore fan but something super duper casual occasionally doesn't hurt nintendo's not even making them anymore they are just porting the stuff they gave us on the wii u and putting most resources into amazing experiences.

Got to agree that Wii was kinda dissapointing. I grew up with Nintendo 64 and Gamecube for so many years in my childhood. I also had a Ps2 to have like more modern and teenage games, but I spend most my time playing on Nintendos more often even tho I finished my games so many time, AKA Paper Mario, MarioKart, Melee, Mario Party, Star fox, Kirby Air ride.
It didn't even bothering me of not having a Wii for a long time. When I finaly had a Wii console from my friend who was selling it with a few games, I didn't even had a lot of good quality time with it. Everything felt different with every game that I played and loved from the other consoles. The only game that I played a lot was Mario Strickers Charged with friends. Won't talk about Super Paper Mario because gosh you describe my thought about this game so well!
