The last few minutes of the video are so true. I called the hospital operator and asked to be transferred to the NICU, then from there I asked to speak directly to the unit hiring manager. My application was pulled before the end of the day and I ended up getting the job!
I was just hired as a NICU nurse & i graduate in 2 days with my ADN! One of the hospitals I applied for had a job fair, I passed all the other department managers and went straight to what I wanted. I sold myself and it worked. She took down my name in her personal notes and said she was going to pull my resume. She did just that and we did a phone interview and made an offer! She said my cover letter stood out because all the others were so standard & boring. I made mine specific and it showed how much passion I have about working in the nicu. Plus I knew exactly what I wanted at that job fair. I wasn’t just looking through all the departments for any job. I talked to her and I left. I had the attitude of if it’s not nicu I don’t want it.
I’m a new grad NICU nurse and I was an extern on an antepartum floor for a year then I reached out to the NICU manager asking for a change in position to extern on their unit. I was really persistent and finally interviewed with her and she hired me on the spot!
i literally just came on here to comment and say that you are an absolute soldier! it takes a certain kind of strength to emotionally stomach a level 3 NICU. i can't imagine a level 4. i think i may be able to do 2 but probably not more. the world needs people like you ❤️
I’m glad to hear you are liking the NICU! I was able to get a position in a level 3 NICU before I graduated from college due to connections and experience I gained from my last clinical! I’ve been working on the unit for 5 months now and I love working with the babies!
Love this!! I am doing my practicum in NICU right now and starting a new grad position in the NICU in July 💘 it is the best! Definitely recommend trying to get a practicum in the NICU as well as volunteering. I work as a unit secretary in the NICU I will be starting at as a nurse and that is such a great way to get your foot in the door!!
This is exciting! I've been following your journey since YOU were in school. Now I'm following you and will be joining the NICU team shortly (after my term in med-surge). I'm excited that I'll get to watch your tips and tricks for my new career path!
I just got my capstone placement in the NICU! Came straight back to this video haha. Love your channel! I was initially team L&D but I’m excited for this challenge, I think L&D might after all be a bit routine for me.
New grad adn and I got nicu nurse for my first job, went to an in person job fair and sold myself, but I am now getting my bsn as well as all the certs required and more to stand out for future hospitals.
I've never considered the NICU but you make me want to give it a try!! I'm three months into a new job in endoscopy and really enjoying it...but I'm always interested in learning more about different areas of nursing. Thank you!
I literally volunteered at a children’s hospital for a year & when i was finally eligible to become a “baby hugger” what we call the volunteers in the NICU, Covid happened... I was so pissed cuz that was the whole reason I became a volunteer 😂 &I’ll be a nurse before they open the volunteer program back up, just my luck.
I graduate in May and I just accepted a position in the NICU. I am so excited!! Is there any tips, websites, or books that you recommend for NICU knowledge?
Right now I’m in school for my cna and then I’m going to start at the hospital and then I’m going to go to nursing school for my rn but I’m going for my MSN and also go to nurse practitioner school. My dream job is to be a NNP.
I graduate in May and have applied to so many LND jobs and it’s starting to feel impossible to get hired😩. I’m trying so hard not to give up hope because it’s literally been my dream for years, but wooo it’s getting tough
Congratulations on getting to where you wanted to be. I'm considering moving to Houston. Can you tell me what areas I should check out on my visit? Safe housing areas for young professionals, restaurants, lounges, etc.
I want to do peds but I’m not sure what peds I want to do. Unfortunately we didn’t get to pick where we precept at cause they wanted us to be well rounded 😒
Hi, Alexis my name is Dess I’m on. My journey to become a Clinical medical assistant, I’m excited to join the medical field I know it’s not going to be an easy task but I’m up for the challenge and I’m going to try my best. Wishing you all success and happiness with your new job position as as NICU nurse, such as critical job but a great opportunity and people learn so much. #Blessed 🤍
My healthcare experience is primarily in adults and the elderly population. Is it appropriate to list my experience as a kids club attendant, mother’s helper, and nanny? My resume at the moment consists of my education, healthcare experience, and certifications/skills. I wasn’t sure if those previous jobs would make a difference really :(
Def needed this. My dream is to be a NICU nurse & everyone always shuts it down by saying “yeah, it’s hard to get it & they def won’t take new grads” 🥺 so thank you for this!
I want to be apart of nicu like NICU nurse ,NICU tech ,NICU cna or something like that like can you tell me what each position does like go into deep explantion
Is practicum or capstone only for BSN? I'm about to start my ADN in August and I'm not sure if we'll get that opportunity or just clinicals in each area.
Girl I need advice I'm a new grad LVN and I'm working in a fascility, I don't like it and would like some advice on what should I do or how do I get a better job .. please help!!
I am debating on going back to nursing school. This would be my final attempt. I’m nervous and I haven’t made a move yet. I’ve been out of school for a year and 3 months now. :/
Girl go back nothing is impossible, I left my school the first time and I was 3 months away from graduation , right away I looked for a better school and I even had to restart all over but I didn't give up, I'm now a LVN .. GOOD LUCK GURL, YOU COULD DO IT!!
Absolutely go for it!! I had been in school for three years, had to take two off to be a caretaker for a family member, went back and finished my BSN at a different school, and now I'm a pediatric oncology nurse!! I thought it would be impossible, but I'm so thankful that I never gave up. It sounds so cliche, but you truly can do anything you put your mind to, if the will and want to put in the work are all there. Wishing you the best of luck with your journey!
I’m doing a nurse externship as a nursing student and will hopefully be hired once I graduate into the MICU! It’s looking good so far! Thanks for the tips! All ICU positions are so hard to get into with no experience or as a new grad. 😩😭

Yes, ADN nurse's can be hired, just a bit more competitive in larger academic centers, so try applying to community hospitals too
