I just picked up an E2 gold type 12 from an older lady that had it for $100. She thought it was completely trashed and it quit running good given age. But i had a feeling the pump assembly was clear full. Sure enough, drywall dust caked up in the pump and even had a broken off capacitor on the control board. Relatively easy fix for me and i got a killer vacuum out of it. I questioned if she was sure that's all she wanted for it but she was insistent i took it. Mine is the version one gold that has the gold stripe decals like the original e series so it also doesn't have the internal sound deadening foam. Everything was in pretty good shape so pretty minimal work. 😎
So interesting to see the inside of one of these. They pop up frequently on Marketplace in my area. I always contemplate on picking one up, but the main problems I’ve come across are people running them without water or failing to clean them out properly. They got the nickname “Mud Pot” for a reason. Nearest vac repair store is 3hrs away so I can’t justify having someone else repairing such a machine lol. Neat setup with the water basin trap, but a bagged machine like my Sebo Airbelt E3 is what I need/use to keep the allergens down.
That is the best and strongest vacuum I have ever used. I have a miele as well and it's a good backup, but when it comes to suction there is no comparison,, Mine is over 15 years old and as strong as the day I bought it. also, the dust is absorbed in the water and no dust blows anywhere
That's interesting to hear you say this Milele has about 40% more power when tested at the end of the hose. Not all of them were made to do carpet so depending on the model you might have a hard floor area rug machine. That style mission does not clean well on carpet. Filtration is also much better on a lot of other vacuums. Turns out water is a poor filtration medium in this rainbow machine relies heavily on its exhaust filter.
@@PerformanceReviews You're saying water filtration is a poor method of filtration while a DRY filtration system SPEWS GUNK BACK INTO THE AIR, I'm confused, I have NEVER EVER heard of water filtration SPEWING stuff back into the air. I honestly don't see how it would even be possible given how water works versus how dry filtration works. If you take a Filter Queen for example which is a very high end vacuum machine in the same PRICE RANGE AS RAINBOW, when pulling those stupid cones that Filter Queen uses out to replace it with a new cone YOU ARE GETTING ALL KINDS OF GUNK SPEWED IN YOUR FACE AND IN THE AIR, show me ONE TIME EVER that has happened with a water filtration system, EVER, I'll wait! By the way I don't work for Rexair, so I'm not advocating for them or any other particular brand, if one finds Rainbow or Hyla to be overpriced, that's understandable, WHAT I DO ADVOCATE FOR IS THE WATER FILTRATION MODEL OVER THE DRY FILTRATION MODEL! PERIOD! Rainbow and Hyla are NOT the only options for GOOD Filtration on the market, Sirena is far less expensive than Rainbow and Hyla, I have seen Sirena for $700 and that brand gets good reviews, there is a Water Filtration Vacuum by Prolux out of Utah that is just over $1,000 and comes with a BETTER SHAMPOO ATTACHMENT than those of Rainbow and Hyla, and uses infrared to kill pathogens inside the water basin, and if one does not mind going bare bones, minimal attachments, there are Water Filtration Machines one can get for $500. I just have a problem with anyone saying that the DRY Filtration Model is better than the WATER Filtration Model because given the natures of how BOTH work that argument does not hold up to logical scrutiny.

That cleaning method is sweet and I will do it on my next rainbow. I've noticed messing and cleaning the fan is a pain. This does it more effecient and doesn't hurt the fan.
Did the crazy cleaning method. I took extreme caution to ensure water stayed where I wanted to go. WOW, The Kirby cake was more like Kirby barf, YUCK. The Rainbow E2 is clean. I found the complete Rainbow package in a thrift store for $35.00.
Are the thick rubber motor/water pan gaskets actually glued to the fan chamber housing? I’m replacing the motor assembly on my e2 black. And the new motor does not have the gasket on it.
@@PerformanceReviews yes I know that. That wasn’t my question was it? I need to know if the gasket just slips onto the fan chamber housing or does it actually get glued on to it?

@@PerformanceReviews Thanks. I didn’t know that they were the same machine. I told my cousin to buy one and she really likes it. I sent her the combination horsehair butterfly dusting brush/upholstery tool and a universal shelf dusting brush and told her to swap them out on the wand clip.
@Performance Reviews. First of all I hope you didn't harm that spider!!!!! Second You said the separator is top rack dishwasher safe, not dishwasher in general, you said specifically top rack in a dishwasher, what difference does it make whether one puts the separator on the bottom or top rack of a dishwasher if one is going to clean it in a dishwasher?
@@PerformanceReviews I'm still confused, Dishwasher machines do not operate at room temperature inside of the machine, the temperature inside of the machine is the same regardless of whether something is on the top or bottom rack.
I have a 2 speed rainbow vacuum that will not turn on, I have bypassed the bowl safety switch and the actual 2 speed switch and powered the board with a sui wire. The molex plug only has 13 volts coming out of it and the the two plugs that control the two speeds have no voltage, does this sound like a board problem? Thanks in advance.
Rainbows are awesome, but I don’t get why people don’t bother to clean them. I know water filtration vacuums don’t need much maintenance, but it’s still very important to keep them clean.
Clean the separator once a month, never store the motor on the basin no matter how dry, use the right amount of water and having service done every 4-5 years. The result will be 30+ yrs of a clean home.
@@paulgekides6608 yes i do that to my e2 blue. my aunt doesn’t, so I had to tell her to stop putting the water basin on the vacuum when she is done cleaning. But i visit her often so i’m the one that maintains her rainbow vacuum.
I don't get it either. It's not hard for me at all even cleaning the separator after every use... and giving the seals where dirt enters/exits into the bowl a quick wipe... I also think people will often not fill the basin with enough water. I'm always a little overkill on the water, filling it about 1/2 inch above the dome with no issues for years... I really think it's better... but don't go above that.... For me, it's easier dealing with a rainbow than it is trying to maintain a bagless vacuum
I’m so confused on how running water through a vacuum helps clean it out? When you do it with a regular vacuum, it dries out the bearing. Does it do the same with this?
Well you might be confused about how a full bypass motor works. It doesn't even come in contact with the bearings or anything. You might Google pictures of rainbow motors for a better explanation.

If you take the armature out and get it spinning and chalk it then 2 new motor brushes. That that hose would be topped out to 55
