Thrifting since 1987 when I was 22 😅 lol yes I listen to a garment and some man made stuff feels so fake it send shivers 😂 Seriously though, wonderful educational video! I take for granted the things I learned as a young girl and as a thrifting 20 some year old when thrifting had so much unbelievable quality. Now more than ever, we should all be taking good care of the wonderful quality clothing we already own so that we can continue wearing them for many more years. Hope you do a follow up video on garment care, handwashing, ironing etc with a discussion on how many items that say Dry Clean Only can actually be washed on gentle and steamed to perfection. I have wool, silk, and otherwise blazers that are 20-30 years old and never go to the dry cleaners.
you could hire yourself out to shop for people or escort them to the thrift store or sell your advice maybe u do that already i dont know if your single might be a good way of meeting a guy make sure he's not broke or write a book on how to shop or what you're doing now people need help their not taught anything anymore so you're helping people which is great plus you're very easy on the eyes kodos to you Laura!
This video is so underrated! Thrifting is so overpriced these days, I want to make sure I’m getting high quality clothes. And oh God I hate polyester 😭 I can’t stand the texture and the thought of microfibres falling out every time I wash it.
Great list. Items like buttonholes or quality of the post on a jean are things i take for granted. Surface mounted shank buttons are my pet peeve. When I see a double breasted blazer with one column of buttoned shank buttons facing forward and the surface mounted column drooping and facing the floor, I find it very annoying. And i don't understand how other people dont even notice. It's so o easy tofiwith a little hand sewing. Oy! On blazer lining, I now need blazers tobe machine washable and I dont mind trading breathability for easy care. No more dry cleaners. Lifestyle over style! Skirt linings that don't hang well, are uneven or fall slightly aboe the outer fabric do look cheap, BUT, the example you showed was an intentional knee length linning under maxi length stretch lace. It's a style I really like in summer. An important point missing is fabric pilling. Most pilling fabrics are cheap but a few are expensive. Either way pilling fabrics requite a maintenance commitment to shave the pills off. It's something to evaluate prior to a purchase. Overall, this video is informative and entertaining. Well done!
Great point about the fabric pilling!!! I love my comment section whenever I make videos like this because the tips that follow are always sooooo good! 🙌 and definitely understand on the skirt. It was a short timeframe to get the proper video footage and I wish I could have found a better example on a few of the topics 😊❤️❤️
Can you please share your thoughts on the Aritzia Effortless Pants? I was very surprised to learn their Crepette is 100% polyester. I have them and like them but once I learned they are polyester I feel duped
I haven't been to my local thrift stores in a while. Why? Because over the last year or so, they started selling terrible quality clothes. It's either Shien or Shien-type clothes. The rest are no-name brands, made out of horrible polyester. If you find a Mango or H&M piece for a reasonable price, you're lucky. It wasn't likethat a year ago. I could find vintage or even higher end brands for a relatively low price. Last week, I went back to the thrift store after two or three months. I needed a bag for work. Couldn't find anything, so I settled on a faux leather bag for 25 bucks. You could find real leather a year ago!
@lauravonv I started thrifting in 2020, so it's not even a 10 years change for me, it's less than 5 years. Two years ago I could still find a decent amount of vintage at the thrift store. I think over the last year it has gotten even worse.
I agree, thrifting quality clothing has become a challenge in the past 6-7 years. I’m in Portland, Oregon, which used to be a thrifting Mecca. Now, the Savers and Goodwills are all filled with Target overstock and fast fashion (side note: most Goodwills now sell their donations of value online, auction style.) You can still find great vintage items in Portland, but it’ll cost you!
Try going to different thrift stores at different times. Also check the men's section for coats and button down shirts. I think we are just seeing the poor quality things people ordered online during the pandemic. Consignment shops and charity shops might be a little more picky about their intake quality. Keep trying.
I look for how well item woven. Natural as possible with lil stretch. I put my hand inside of item if l can see it forget it or always layer. Cheap material shows. 😂

I agree 😭😭 it’s just a sea of SHEIN now and it breaks my heart. The decline over the last 10 years has been so sad to watch.
