Before COVID, my boyfriend and I took a trip to New Orleans and I downloaded Evil Dead for the plane. I hadn't seen it in years and forgot how relentless it is, and the flight ended up being really turbulent. Between the movie and the turbulence, my heart was beating out of my chest 😆
    Great review!!

One of my all time favourite Horror movies! What’s weird is I can literally watch this at any time, and over and over again, despite the brutality and the fact that it legitimately frightens me. It’s just so perfectly imperfect. A masterpiece from such a talented team of young filmmakers, if I could reach halfway to the level of greatness they did by the time I’m 20, I could die happy!

Not a movie i can watch regularly, but it's still a classic and one of the most groundbreaking horror films ever. What Raimi and company were able to accomplish on such a low budget is extraordinary! With passion and talent, you don't need a big budget... you find a way. One hell of a review, DD!

I saw this film for the first time at a sleepover in 1985 ( yep, old gal here, lol). I had never seen any truly hardcore horror films before and I was COMPLETELY enthralled. From that point on, horror has been my absolute favorite genre.

I love this franchise. Great review lee. I have been following Bruce Campbell talking about how they made this movie and it took real blood tears and sweat, brutal but rules were different times were different, makes me appreciate this franchise even more. The 2013 evil dead still holds up, it’s my most watched horror film I know like every single line, the ending chainsaw scene with raining blood is my shit. Ash vs evil dead is really good to. I hear army of darkness 2 might happen, but I’ve been hearing that for years lol, love love love your reviews, like how in depth you go and it’s great content and more people finding this franchise is just an awesome feeling. 🤘

I have the exact same history with Evil Dead, although it was discovering Evil Dead 2 on VHS in 1992, then renting the first one a few weeks later. I didn't really consider myself a huge fan until I picked them up on DVD though many years later. Seeing a film for the first time widescreen....changes a man. lol. And no shame in us crawling through glass and molten lava to see a Halloween movie but also having mad love for other horror franchises.

Fun fact, first time I saw a clip of Evil Dead, it was still a few years before saw the rest of the movie. That clip being on the TV Nancy is watching to try and stay awake in A Nightmare on Elm Street. I will say, with the original Evil Dead Trilogy, I've often looked at it like this. The first one, flat out horror movie. The second one, horror comedy. Army of Darkness, flat out comedy. Interesting how that works out.

One of the most entertaining reviews I watched about this horror classic, truly awesome Lee.
Oh yeah I remember the video nasty cull, any film depicting violence on the cover was immediately removed, even Halloween 2 for a time because the pumpkin carved skull was deemed as promoting violence, crazy times bro our UK dumb ass pompous politicians dictating what we can or can't watch which led to the BBFC.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, Evil Dead, I Spit on Your Grave, Driller Killer, Zombie Flesh Eaters the list was endless.
Thankfully common sense prevailed even if it took to the 2000 get these released uncut.

Has to be recognised as one of the classics. As it was initially banned in the UK, it just made us want to see it even more. I think it stands the test of time so well. Effects in the classic 80’s horror movies may look a little dated but for just outright scaring you they are still the best for me

A little while back, I had a job interview at a restaurant and the guy who went before me said he was from Morristown, Tennessee, which I immediately recognized as the town where the first Evil Dead was shot. I don't know if he realized he hailed from a town where one of horror's greatest was filmed.

It shows that when resources are scarce, people are forced to become more creative and innovative.

Oh and I might add that the poster with the woman coming out of the ground wasn't the one in the video store, I have the 1983 release robbed from the video store (it wasn't me, it was my sister) and the original box art is the cool painting of the deadite with the tape recorder at the bottom.

Ok, I just learned the meaning of “polarizing”. I thought polarizing was a way to describe something you don’t like, but turns out that it’s when, for example a new horror movie comes out, it gets mixed reviews and some people love it, some people hate it. I used the word “polarizing” to describe Halloween (1978) and as much shit I give that movie, I can’t deny that it has a giant fanbase and it’s one of the most respected movies in the genre. I’m sorry, English isn’t my main language.

Here in MI, back when I was dabbling in local filmmaking with friends in the '90's and '00's, we all worshipped our hometown heroes Sam and Bruce! The Evil Dead is the kind of movie that only could've been made by a bunch of hungry 20-year olds...And I think the film wound up being WAY better than what was required of it, considering their youth and level of experience at the time. Imagine being Raimi at 20, and you've ALREADY directed a horror masterpiece like this! Bravo!

Love these films and often revisit, the Evil Dead movies from time to time. They’re indeed dark and classic wise creepy.😂🖤🏚 If not, comical I also love Bruce Campbell!!!👏🏽💫💖 I could absolutely see how banned this film would back then, when it debuted. I was super young when this movie came out, I really also had no idea Sam Rami had to even, go to court due to the content. 😐Great review Lee love your commentary hun I personally can’t do the remake nor watched it fully I like the original too much!!!❤️✊🏽🎬 I absolutely like the blue ray packaging of the original BlueRay I’ll add that to my list of items to pick up. That camera zoom along with the sound effects and dark satanic music is certainly a really scary element to this movie. I absolutely agree Lee.☠️💀☠️

This movie is freaking awesome. It just has the feeling of a fun haunted house ride! I love it for how cheesy it is and how genuinely unnerving it is at times as well as gross. Great special effects!! I know there’s flaws to this movie but it is one of those movies that stands out because of the effects. Yes, the effects are dated but they’re still timeless in an odd way. The dated aspect makes it timeless! I love it so much! It’s just one of my passionately favorite horror movies ever!! I could talk about it forever and how it has a flamboyant tone that just really works for me! I don’t want to annoy anyone but I’m passionate about my love for this movie!

  • @MattaTron1000
    @MattaTron1000 3 роки тому

Hell yea brother. This movie is definitely a game changing movie. Sam Raimi did so much amazing work with such a low budget. This is what movie making is all about! The fact it was just a group of friends that got together in a cabin to make this movie and what it’s become is just nothing short of amazing. I seen this when I was 10 and it scared the shit out of me. Now I watch it and laugh at it but in a good way. I’m glad you mentioned the opening shot at the lake. Definitely one of my favorite things about the film is how Sam uses the camera as a force of evil and the way he maneuvers around everything is just a sight to behold. As much as I appreciate and adore this movie I can only watch it once in a great while. I prefer the reboot/sequel and of course Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness. I feel the reboot took what was great about the original and elevated it. Not a lot of people will ever say that. But I love it. Anyway love that dvd set I need to get my hands on that so cool. Great job on breaking this movie down man can’t wait to see what you do with the sequels. Next month Evil Dead 2...... GROOVY!!!!

All things Evil Dead, my rankings :
    The Evil Dead (2013)
    The Evil Dead (1981)
    Ash vs The Evil Dead
    The Evil Dead 2
The Evil Dead : The Musical
    Army of Darkness
I have a preference to the more straight horror entries as opposed to the ones that throw the slapstick in, but I can't say that I didn't really enjoy the TV show. But give me visceral horror first !

“We’re going to get you we’re going to get you not another peep time to go to sleep!!!!” Hell yeah total badarse classik indeed I really can’t say witch I like better between this or Evil Dead 2 both are equally good in their own way this is like a low budget DIY of The Exorcist taking place in the woods it is a terrifying movie for its time pushing boundaries and was revolutionary for what it achieved it succeeds in sending chills down your spine my favorite scene is that tree scene and when Linda get possessed and is messing with Ash and his friend as far as Demonic Possession themed movies as a whole my big 3 are The Exorcist, Evil Dead, and Amityville 2 The Possession also a shoutout to Beyond The Door an underrated Italian knockoff of The Exorcist and a good one recommended as for Evil Dead 2 what really made it special was its over the top Gore straight like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 funny how the sequel to both franchises end up balls out gory to a T and it adapted more so the humor in witch would be predominant in Army of Darkness I think my favorite moment easily is when the Deer head comes to life and starts cackling while everything in the cabin is violent shaking and Ash himself starts laughing and going crazy amazing moment.

OK so this is just my opinion but I really like the first evil dead movie more than the second and the third and of the TV show not because I don’t like comedy or anything I don’t know why I like the first movie more than the third or the second or the TV show but yes I am one of those people who will pop it in any day anytime

@DrumDums have you had a chance to check out that South Korean horror series Kingdom yet that I told you about in order to review it during the month of October? Just curious, I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet myself however, I definitely plan to during the month of October sometime.

I used to prefer Evil Dead 2 but I kind of prefer the original now. I can't easily explain it.
